The Archives are and were always a dangerous location. The place is laced with forbidden and treacherous magic. Unfortunately, some dragon had to be picked for the job of caring for it.
Now, because the Archive knows Zahira is there to look after it, the supernatural location allows her to stay mostly in peace. Of course, this doesn’t mean she isn’t met with troublesome ordeals almost daily. The Archives are constantly moving things around, breaking things, summoning things, and creating chaotic happenings. One of these events caused Zahira to lose her wings, and others have completely obliterated her work.
For Zahira, what started as a hobby eventually became a passion and a career. Not only does she organize scrolls and tomes, but she also has read many books on paranormal events and is constantly working towards understanding everything that occurs in the Archives. After all, it’s her job to clean up after the Archive’s menacing messes.
The Archive contains scrolls and books, but it also contains collections of mysterious materials and objects. Some are more common, such as canopic jars, alien tendrils, and magical stones; others, on the other hand, may involve the Shade and artifacts not recorded throughout the Sornieth.

Kahira was a good choice for the Archives due to her motherly attitude towards other friendly entities. She’s a thoughtful dragon with a love of organization; living in such a disorderly place is not a problem for her unless she can’t clean it up.
Within the extensive map of the Archives live several entities, each of which Zahira is very kind-hearted towards. Being the oldest of the dragons by several years, she’s taken up the place of caretaker not only for the Archives but for the other residents as well.
Probably one of her closest companions is a black Ferberus with a silly yet cunning soul. One of his favorite activities is stealing scrolls and leaving them on the wrong shelves, forcing Zahira to find them later and bring them back to their proper homes. Still, she loves the cat because she knows he means no evil intent; he’s just a kitten with a mischievous mind. Most of the other folks living in the Archives aren’t fully dragons. After all, this is a place of mystery and magic. Some are undead, others are curses to behold… it’s a wonder the whole place still gets along (mostly) in harmony.

Although Zahira is friendly towards her companions, she’s less hospitable towards newcomers. Few people who know of the Archive want to go there; so, therefore, she’s used to outsiders having ill-intent towards the place. Even innocent souls who arrive there are met with stiff warnings of what danger lies within.

Swiping the dust which had gathered overnight on the table off the glassy surface, Zahira unrolled the scroll in her talons. It was the incorrect scroll. This one appeared to be about the Shade-touched status of the monsters across the Sornieth. The Pearlcatcher rolled her eyes; she could have sworn she'd grabbed the scroll she had been looking for. Besides, what was it doing here in the ‘V’s? It belonged in the ‘S’s section. The Ferberus, Omen, must have been messing up the order of scrolls on the shelves again. Rolling the paper back into its case, the wingless dragon padded to the proper section and placed the informative writing into its correct location.
The black Ferberus appeared on the shelf above her, trilling and purring with intense attention. “Hello, little one,” Zahira murmured, running her talons along the cat’s back. Checking her watch, the Pearlcatcher saw that it was nearing his feeding time. “I presume you're hungry now,” she said quietly. Raising its tail, the cat’s multiple faces quickly brightened and it trotted away towards the storage area. Quickly, Zahira followed behind, ducking beneath a few books that threw themselves at her from the shelves.
This little corner of the Archives was where she kept her own items. After all, she and the cat both needed to eat. Her resting quarters were down a nearby hallway; the rest of the Archives were a bit too dangerous to live in permanently. They barely sufficed as a safe workplace; in fact, they were typically quite the opposite. Luckily, this corner rarely had any magical catastrophes.
Once Zahira set Omen’s food dish on the floor, the Ferberus’s multiple heads each fought over the bowl, all wishing to eat simultaneously.

The Pearlcatcher turned around, stepping back into the hallway to clean up the books that had attacked her. She noticed with a shiver how dark this end of the hallway was. “I should see about getting some lanterns around here… maybe I can place a candle on that bookshelf. It’s hard to see the shelf titles.”
Suddenly, a loud scraping noise came up behind her. Zahira jumped to the side just in time to barely avoid a wooden chair that appeared to have dived at her from across the hallway. It spun around abruptly to face her, then settled into place as if the magic had let go of the chair. “I take it you don’t like that idea,” she muttered in the direction of the chair. Really, though, she was speaking to the Archive itself. She’d figured out by now that the whole place had a mind of its own. After watching the chair for a few more moments to make sure it had finished moving, Zahira began placing the books on their respective shelves once again.
Just as she wrapped her talons around the last book, she noticed a rosy glow originating from the Eastern side of the hallway. “Oh, no… Better check what that is,” she muttered, weaving her way between the shelves to find the source of the light.
The pink glow originated from the middle of the last row of shelves. Five books floated, each following the last in an endless circle. The center of the circle glowed with a bright pink bright that was becoming increasingly brighter. If Zahira didn’t know better, she would have presumed it was a portal. Then again, the Archives could be very mysterious and chaotic sometimes. It actually could be a portal.
Suddenly, with a blinding flash, the books exploded, sending her flying backward. What in the Sornieth? Zahira thought, scrambling to her feet as soon as she regained her senses. On the ground in front of her lay a single, dark purple and black egg.
The egg suddenly began to crack.
A hand rested on her shoulder and she jolted around, startled. Nobody came around here at this time of night. She locked eyes with Harbinger, who met her gaze with an icy, undead stare. “What... did you... just do?” he growled, turning his gaze slowly towards the hatching egg.
“The Archives spawned it,” the Pearlcatcher replied, shaking her head in awe.
A Nocturne hatchling kicked its feet roughly through the egg, roaring as it thrust out its dark wings and foreclaws and snapped the shell.
With burning ferocity, its eyes glared up at the two dragons.
“I am Frenzy,” it snarled.
“Why are you here?” Zahira asked, slightly surprised that the hatchling knew how to speak so well. She figured the Archives had spawned it for a reason.
“I am a curse.” The Nocturne locked icy stares with Harbinger. “Perhaps a curse… for you.”
