ABOUT.
Miles is quite the spirited spiral. Despite being the youngest engineers in the clan, he's just as home in the workshop as any of them. Maybe a little too at home, if you think about it. When he first joined the clan (they had need of an engineer who was actually up-to-date with the latest Lightning tech), the rest of the engineers and technicians found him immensely annoying.

And with good reason.

He had barged into the quiet workshop one afternoon, announcing his presence by shouting and slamming the door open. Prometheus, the head engineer, wasn't sure what to do with him; Miles solved that problem by claiming an empty workbench and proclaiming it his.

Thrasos was less than happy about his arrangement, seeing as his bench was the closest to Miles, which resulted in the spiral (in true ridgeback fashion) borrowing tools and pieces of scrap metal. Thrasos' mate was Tisiphone, a retired— though very capable— assassin. This was not a good idea. Aetna wasn't thrilled about it either. The amount of noise Miles made was distracting and very annoying, and she was none too pleased when he looked over her shoulder to peer at her experiments. Hephaestus avoided him as much as he could. The reclusive wildclaw had no desire to interact with him.

It was a while before they decided to take him down a peg.

Miles was quite boastful, you see. He claimed that he could fix, repair, and build anything under the sun. This was a doubtful claim, all things considered, especially seeing as the rest of the engineers were much older and more experienced than he was, and even they didn't know everything.

It was decided. They would hold a building competition to decide how good Miles really was. Prometheus would be his opponent.

The competition was small, but eventful, and hardly anyone was surprised that Prometheus won. Miles had built a device that would allow one of the clan's newcomers, a pearlcatcher, to speak again. Not only did it not work, it had malfunctioned spectacularly. Worse still, it had hurt the pearlcatcher's throat.

Prometheus' invention functioned like it was supposed to.

Miles had lost.

More importantly though, he'd injured Iaso, the pearlcatcher. As the competition progressed (it was over a span of two weeks), the two got to know each other. Miles learned little of Iaso's past—understandable, given the trauma she'd been through— but it didn't stop him from falling in love.

Remorse overcame him, but it didn't compare to the shock he felt when Iaso simply forgave him. Something about a foolish hope, and—

Well. Iaso stayed. And Miles, while still quite proud and very sarcastic, has been humbled. A little, but it's quite a miracle.

IMPRESSIONS.

PAST.
Miles' parents were both very calm, quiet dragons, so it was a shock to their system that their child would be so rambunctious. Even as a child, Miles was going against expectations, being a blowhard and getting into fights. When he wasn't getting into fights, he was eating his parents nearly out of house and home and refusing to pay attention to his studies. In a fit of frustration, his parents shipped him off to work in an apprenticeship with a mechanic they knew; this is where he found his true talents, funneling his energies into working with machines.

While Miles can work on large projects, his prefers to work alone, and to repair prosthetics or vehicles.
