Children of the witch and the mechanic are taught how to control the Plague magic that is highly saturated in their bones from birth; some hatchlings have almost unstable concentrations of magic while others had all of theirs drained in the shell. The effects are always unpredictable. Regardless, their parents try to give them as full of a life as possible, nurturing and loving each of their children as best as they can.

Of course, love and nurture won't always take.

The most powerful of her siblings and the least interested in putting her abilities to use, young Sif decides that she'd much rather train as a brawler than as a mage; so, she learns what she must in order to keep her magic from overwhelming her and then she pours herself into her training, growing swifter and stronger each day.

Of course, what she doesn't realise is that the true sight that strikes terror into her opponents' eyes often isn't her blade or her knife-sharp snarl. It's the glow of Plague magic, potent and powerful, glowing red in her veins, cradling her skull, and setting her bright eyes ablaze as she gives in to the wild thrill of the glorious fight.
