![]() m o r g a n e cautious • kind • loyal ![]() • a b o u t • Children of the witch and the mechanic are taught how to control the Plague magic that is highly saturated in their bones from birth; some hatchlings have almost unstable concentrations of magic while others had all of theirs drained in the shell. The effects are always unpredictable. Regardless, their parents try to give them as full of a life as possible, nurturing and loving each of their children as best as they can. Of course, love and nurture won't always take. ![]() This is how Morgane deals with the horrifying knowledge that the strain of magic flowing in their veins will kill them eventually: by running as far away from their parents and their birthclan as their claws can take them. They need no reminder of the terrible fate that they'll suffer should they ever overexert themselves. What use is there trying to gain control over the ocean of magic that lies untapped within them? Morgane has seen the way some of the birthclan regards their mother (with caution, with fear) and to live like that, to have the world step around you as if walking on eggshells, is torture. So, till the lie-- I was born without magic-- wears itself smooth wears itself smooth on their tongue, they will keep running. ![]() Over time, it gets easier. Their lies become more fluent, and they get better at pretending. They find ways to be useful without using magic, and train themselves to hold back the churning feeling that threatens to choke them from the inside out. They busy themselves with hard work and a tough life on the road and let themselves forget about the steady pulse that will bring around their doom. When they meet their sister Mayhew while travelling, it terrifies them. She is a piece of their past; a reminder of the contaminated blood that stains their blindfold- a stark contrast to the power they hold. They have travelled so far, through so many places, never once looked back- and yet; the curse that runs through their veins will always find them. So they settle. Dragonhome is uncomfortably close to the Scarred Wasteland, but Mayhew had insisted. They end up staying in a small town to the east, where a large lake once laid, but now is only salt, dust, and whatever meagre crops that can be grown nearby. Morgane lets themselves fall into a familiar routine, helping out where they can, eking out a peaceful life as they try to ignore the familiar tug of magic in their bones.
