Velum is part of the clan's 'last resort plan thingy', aptly coined by Altair, the clan leaders' son. When he gets angry or frustrated, he morphs into a construct of bone and sinew, taking on a form similar to that of his mother. He can lose control of himself sometimes, though if any dragon has the strength and the courage to stop and calm him down, it's Babylon and Lucerna. The three of them, a resurrected spirit, a Shade-demon construct, and a dragon able to morph into a monster, are in a polyamorous relationship. It does seem to work perfectly for them, and as long as Babylon and Lucerna and help keep him in check, the clan doesn't quite care. Combined with Lucerna's strength and Babylon's speed and wisdom though, and the three of them become unstoppable, turning into a gargantuan beast capable of taking down armies. However, this is a highly unstable form that requires immense amount of concentration and willpower. Velum is still fairly unsure of himself, as he's conflicted and currently trying to find a balance between the dragon and the monster. Interestingly enough, he is able to communicate with Kaldwin, the clan's other last resort back-up plan. The imperial is a lot more docile around him, though he is still attempting to make sense of the gibberish she spouts. But there is a reason why he can do it. |

Born the eldest son of a dragon-turned-monster and her beast handler, Velum to most outward appearances seems to be a normal sort of dragon. Though his mother's mind was cracked from before she finally burst forth from the egg, she did show him the benefits of using the monstrous form of broken and deformed bones during confrontations. Isolated from his parents at an early age, Velum always felt out of place among the shimmering halls of the ancient seat of the Lightweaver. Even in his earliest days, the young skydancer preferred straying far from home to search for himself, trying to find ways to ease his own loneliness as his father's attention strayed back to his mother and the rest of the clan continued to go about their daily lives uninterrupted.
His siblings were treated the same; no one knew what the children of an evolved beast and her handler would turn out to be, after all. Velum ended up inheriting his mother's form--or rather, he gained the ability to shift his own form into something resembling that of his mother's. The change is reversible, of course, but each time he changes, he loses a little of himself each time. Shift too many times and he'd turn permanantly. He was the eldest; his younger sister turned out perfectly fine--or at least, they hoped; and his youngest sister, oddly enough--or maybe not--had, er...poisonous blood.
Though he remained until adolescence, Velum found himself growing ever more ostracized in his birth clan and felt a calling to leave. It was after a battle with the Shade that took the lives of the original clan leaders that he finally took the opportunity to leave. Given the uproar within the clan, it was easy to simply steal away one night and set off on a quest to find himself. After months of wandering, Velum arrived at the territory of the Clan of Rattling Bone.
He hadn't meant to stay long; he had originally wanted to visit the Wyrmwound, just to see what it was like. His mother was from the Plague, though most of the clans he visited didn't seem as violent or aggressive as he thought. Including this one.
Velum had purchased some supplies from Phantasos, the clan's self-styled merchant, when he caught Babylon's eye. The spiral had been lounging around with Lucerna, when his gaze fell on Velum. There was something strange about his aura, something that Babylon wasn't sure what to make of. Lucerna could feel it in her bones, too. The both of them were drawn to him.
Luckily for them, Velum felt the same way.
