Biography

”It doesn’t matter what I am.”

latin translation of ‘lamp’

灯亮

Crystal Ball
Tallow Candle
Glossy Frills
They aren’t children. They never were, they never will be. Carefully, expertly crafted stone and gems glitter and gleam, their 'mother' proud of each. Their father looks after (and through) each one. They’re his eyes into the world - perfect, wild and chaotic, meant to seek only destruction and to see it all for him…

He never once expected them to form personalities of their own.

Lucerna is something of an explorer. It's a hesitant job that she took up a while ago, and she hasn't complained yet. Her hard, crystal hide is what protects her from attacks; few dragons know her weaknesses.

She's the 'child' of a Shade-demon (clearly not a dragon) and a jewelry maker with an affinity for ghosts and ghouls and everything in between. She's a ruby-construct, imbued with life and a touch of stardust, created to act as her 'father's' eyes to the world.

She's got a personality that is entirely hers, though. She came to the Clan of Rattling Bone because...well, she's not quite certain as to why she's here. Babylon, a spirit-taken-dragon-form could be a reason as to why she turned up at the clan, asking for a place to call home. Both of them appeared to have been drawn to each other; on the day of her birth, Babylon claimed to have felt a disturbance in the force that kept his life bound to the physical realm.

Of course, the biggest mystery is why she's a guardian in the first place. Lucerna doesn't know as well. When she stepped into the clan, her form had still been that of a spiral. When she was introduced to Babylon, however, something sharp had erupted in her skull, forcing her vision to amber, then black. She'd passed out. When Lucerna came to, she was surrounded by the clan's two healers. When she demanded for an explanation, they only shrugged, then beckoned Babylon forward. The two introduced themselves; Babylon didn't seem to be surprised at her existence--he knew exactly what Babylon (the original Babylon, Lucerna's 'father') was capable of, having experienced it first-hand himself.

The two stick together as a pair: the only familiar thing they can find in this strange, small world. They're a strange, hesitant couple, a resurrected spirit and a ruby-stardust construct. But hey, it works.

That is, until Velum arrived. Velum's arrival was...unexpected, to say the least. Both Lucerna and Babylon, well, the two of them...weren't sure exactly why the three of them ended up together. Eventually. After a date that ended in an explosion, and twenty three other successful ones, they decided that maybe.. maybe it would work after all.

And that isn't all. The three of them can--there is no other word for this--morph into a gargantuan construct: a being made from Plague and Light magic with Lucerna, Babylon, and Velum's full abilities. Most of the time, though, they can be seen lounging around: just a spirit, construct, and half-monster.

Sounds like the start of a bad joke.

The very first of her kind. The sun itself burns in her belly and flares in the irises of her eyes, her scales glowing with the same radiance. And if you're wondering why she looks she's made of starstuff and rubies, it is because she is. She's built like a fireplace ornament--too impractical to use and to delicate to play with. Her wings are short; even if they were long enough, she'd be too heavy to fly.

But it does not matter. She isn't a dragon--never was, never will be. Her creators (though she prefers to think of them as her parents) made her with the idea of a looking-glass in mind. She is her father's eyes to the world, and he can see through them at will. He isn't a dragon, but a being of chaos in the form of a spiral, while her mother is a candle-maker and the main creator of the 'hatchlings'.

The leaders of this clan still aren't sure why she's here.

It isn't easy to explain. When she steps out of the incubator, perfectly formed, her creators look her over, checking for flaws and mistakes. There are none; the craftsmanship is perfect. So they make another. And another. And another. Until four creatures, each and every one spirals, sit on the floor, lampshade-yellow eyes bright and alert. She glances at her siblings; they are all female, with bellies a warm, orange colour. When their creators assign them instructions and send them out in the world to find homes, she falters. Hesitation. Maybe even fear.

They weren't supposed to feel.

And then she starts moving. Her legs feel unfamiliar and awkward, and she stumbles every few seconds. Beside her, her siblings struggle to find the rhythm in their footsteps. None of them can fly either, and their movements are rather uncoordinated. They are still spirals after all, struggling with their extra wings and long bodies.

But it isn't long before they get the hang of it. She barely spares a backward glance at the clan that she could only call home for a few hours before she's off, striding away from the only thing she's ever known.

She doesn't know why she's walking towards the Scarred Wasteland. She's heard rumours that when her 'father', one of her creators, left the void, something had followed him out of it. Another dragon, a spiral. With Light eyes, like a faded, diluted version of her 'father's' own Fire ones. Is that why?

Curiosity burns in the pit of her stomach. Is she supposed to feel? She tilts her head and blinks once, twice.

And her vision tilts. Something sharp twists at the back of her skull, and her sight abruptly shifts to amber. Everything she sees is coloured yellow or orange.

T̨̲̯̯́͢e̯͙͔͕̗̥͙ͅs̟̝̀͡t̴̲́,͝҉͙͚͚̭ ̻͍͍̘̭̥̘͕͝t̵̘͖͝e̹̳͟͞ș̀t̪͎̖i̧̢̻͇n̞̱̻̗̮̳̪̙g̡̰

And then, just as suddenly as it happens, it disappears. Her vision fades for a moment, but it soon returns, allowing her to see normally again. Her mind snaps back to the present, and she realises her purpose: she is a looking-glass. Made for her creators to see through.

She shakes her head vigorously, just to make sure that she is herself again, and then she keeps walking. There is nothing peculiar about this. She was made for a purpose, and she will serve it well.

Babylon was the creature's name. It had roamed the entirety of Sorineth just to find her creator, and when it did, well. Their meeting was sure to have been bizarre. And now it seemed, she was going to find that Babylon.

Why she even wanted to, she still wasn't so sure.

Doubt clouds her mind, and for a moment, she deliberates turning around and heading elsewhere. She glances behind her, back at the rest of her siblings. They are nothing more than crimson splodges on the horizon; rapidly shrinking as they gain control of their movements and start walking faster.

She takes a deep breath and this time, she doesn't look back.
