Stormscale

Off to the side of the main cavern, an unlikely pair of dragons sit playing chess: one a huge grey guardian, the other a tiny purple skydancer hatchling.
"Hello there!" the guardian greets you warmly as you approach. "I'm Stormscale, and this little rascal is Liatris, one of Azureclaw and Athear's kids." The tiny skydancer waves shyly. "I'm the captain of the lair guard here at Clan Phantom. We're in charge of protecting the lair at all hours of the day, especially while we have warriors are out on patrol. Someone has to stay home and make sure the hatchlings are safe, after all." He pauses to move one of his rooks. "Anyway, if you're looking for someone on the lair guard, I know who and where they all are. Sventlin and Laraek are on duty, you might've seen them as you came in. Mota went out on a hunting patrol, but she should be back soon. Specter is reading a book over on the other side of the main cavern, Djoda is helping to clean fish out by the stream, and last I saw Naktar, she was hanging out on the lair's roof. Stormscale was the more laid-back of Wraith and Fireclaw's clutch, with neither his brother's anxiety nor his sister firey spunk. He was fond of reading from a young age, and he always kept a small collection of books close at hand to amuse himself with. He also spent a great deal of time following his father around, determined to learn everything Fireclaw knew, and trying to keep Dawnfire out of trouble.
When Stormscale was still a juvenile, he went with his father and brother to the border between the Ashfall Wastes and the Windswept Plateau, to meet with an ally clan and barter for some supplies. While exploring the surrounding area, he met Kaelah, a juvenile pearlcatcher who often snuck away from her domineering clan. They spent the next two weeks hanging out and roaming around, always being sure to get Kaelah home before her absence was noticed.
One day, however, Kaelah was ambushed by monsters on her way home. Her family rushed to her defense, but Stormscale beat them to it and sent the monsters packing. Kaelah was safe, but her all-pearlcatcher family was livid both at her sneaking out and her friendship with a "lesser dragon", and they promptly disowned her. Stormscale took her back to where he and his family were staying and introduced her to Fireclaw and Enlil, and extended an invitation to join Clan Phantom, which she accepted.
After several years of close friendship, Stormscale asked Kaelah to be his bondmate, and she accepted. Barely a year later, their clutch of three eggs hatched four tiny children, as much to the parent's surprise, one egg contained twins. Stormscale thoroughly enjoyed fatherhood, from his kids' first tiny steps to their last days sharing a hollow with him and Kaelah. Stormscale was sad when Jeo chose to leave for Clan Fireblaze, but he is proud of the work his son has done there.
Stormscale's tiny book collection grew over the years into the impressive library that Clan Phantom boasts today. Stormscale claims the entire collection as his charge, though in reality, it is a single book well-hidden among the rest that he guards. This book, found for sale in the marketplace shortly after Kaelah joined the clan, emits an extremely powerful dark magic when the pages are cracked open. Thankfully, the pages are sealed with a lock, the key to which is guarded by Dawnfire. Together, the two ensure that the book will never be used for nefarious means.
Stormscale is clam, laid-back, and easy-going in nearly all situations, from chilling in the lair to fighting on the battlefield. He enjoys reading and playing chess in his spare time, and has taken to teaching the game to younger hatchlings just as his father taught him. He and Fal can often be found pouring through books together, searching for information relating to his charge, and they are sometimes joined by Skylark, whose photographic memory and boundless energy are extremely helpful to their task. As the captain of the clan's lair guard, Stormscale is in charge of assigning dragons to guard the lair entrance and the underground lake.
