Hailing from the Starfall Isles, Israfel is a brilliant magician and Shade-hunter. Always the bright and introspective type, he excelled in his studies despite growing up bouncing from orphanage to orphanage, and he entered the rabbinate at a relatively young age. Isra (as he is often known by his colleagues at Home) soon earned a name for himself as a simply fantastic Shade-hunter. His magical specialty is the dispelling of illusions, and his level head makes him an excellent dragon for a crisis and unlikely to jump to unfounded conclusions. Shade-hunters as a whole are generally derided for an overall tendency to ascribe every bump in the night as evidence of a full-blown Shade infestation; Israfel is not that type, tending to be overly cautious and thoroughly eliminate all other possibilities first. Currently serving as one of Home's associate professors, Isra first came here to study the Hewn City but soon grew attached, and is now devoted to making sure the surrounding area is free of Shade infestation. He can often be found in the company of his wife Lorraine, another of Home's professors, and their daughter, Mira.

Often cheerful and friendly, Israfel is known for being polite, introverted, and mild-mannered. Despite his typically calm and level-headed nature, he fits in very well in Múspellheimr Hall, and generally loves teaching the students in his Hall. Very decisive by nature, he can seem surprisingly reckless when he decides there's something he has to do. Those who know him best would say he's not reckless so much as he holds the lives of others to be of higher value than his own, and he will consistently put himself in harm's way if he thinks he can help someone else by doing so. Though not usually the argumentative sort, he is not one of those rare dragons who can maintain grace in the face of personal insult, and tends to be especially annoyed when he is compared to those Shade-hunters who are paranoid and trigger-happy. Devoted to his wife and their daughter, Isra and Lorraine trust each other completely and make a fantastic team. Lorraine is an extremely sensitive dragon and can often sense Shade infestations, and combining their knowledge makes them excellent partners both at the job and at home. Funny and with a self-deprecating sense of humour, Isra tends to get along great with hatchlings, and often is one of the few volunteers to teach beginner's magic classes. Suffering from chronic insomnia, he has a surprisingly wide range of hobbies due to his simple inability to suffer boredom for more than five minutes at a time. Home's painting students have taken to joining him the art studio when they can't sleep, making him perhaps Home's only professor who does a good chunk of their teaching time after midnight.

Israfel (إِسْـرَافِـيْـل‎) is one of the four Islamic archangels, and the one who is believed to blow the horn to signify the day of judgement.

Israfel is an extremely picky eater.
Along with insomnia, he has frequent nightmares - his late-night paintings are usually pretty dark.
He has dyslexia and is a slow reader; he's quite self-conscious about it.
