A devoted magician and determined intellectual, Iblis is one of the finest minds at Home. Born in Plague to a family of smugglers, he spent his earliest hatching days locked up in an Ice Flight debtor's prison until he was finally kicked out as soon as he was able to fly. This early experience left him disillusioned with current inter-Flight justice systems and angry at what he perceived to be an unjust world. Fortunately, though Iblis certainly knows his way around the rough sides of town, he is also a stubborn dragon who absolutely refuses to become jaded, and he constantly fights against the more base parts of him which seek revenge and are full of anger. Iblis' brand of kindness is tenacious and persistent, and he knows that constantly choosing to be a kind, soft, and warm dragon is perhaps the best form his rebellion could ever take. Quiet but passionate, Iblis can be very reserved and soft-spoken. It is easy for more extroverted dragons to miss his subtle brand of passion, and he can easily pass under the radar. Not a dragon who thrives in the spotlight, Iblis is extremely interested in Plague magic, and he has become skilled enough to do such complex magic as coagulating blood on command and remove or foster disease. Very much a natural magician, Iblis rarely has to practice too much or study too hard before he achieves mastery. This has made him into a perfectionist, and he rarely picks things up unless he is good at them almost instantly. Iblis very much wants to rise beyond his rough start in life and become a magical healer. To heal magical wounds and diseases, a doctor must be an extremely competent magician themselves, and this is what Iblis hopes to achieve. A kind if reserved dragon, Iblis is mild-mannered and rarely has a bad thing to say about anyone. He chooses to constantly rise above petty insults and his own anger, and he believes the world is better for it.

Behind the Name...
Iblis (Arabic إِبْلِيس) is a figure in the Qur'an. The name may comes from the root BLS (ب-ل-س), and may be broadly translated as "remain in grief" or "he despaired." The Qur'anic figure might be very roughly compared to the Christian devil, but Islam, broadly, rejects the idea of the devil as an enemy of G-d. Some Sufi scholars look at Iblis as a symbol of nobility, free will, and unrequited love.
