In The Beginning...
Taze the Terror, scourge of the Shifting Expanse and co-founder of The Lastsparks. Once a wild and perpetually angry dragon, the ridgeback found peace when she came across another lost soul, Laurel. After a rocky start, in which Taze mistook the young serthis-harpy hybrid for an enemy, they made a truce and joined forces, vowing to always protect each other. Eventually the two unlikely friends forged a new life together in the lair of The Lastsparks, open to others of all flights and species. Nowadays, as the lair steadily grows, Taze prefers to concentrate her efforts on protecting the clan, taking the role of Captain of the Guard. She leaves the running of things to Laurel and her right-hand dragons Fluxx, Teravolt, and Scunner. When the clan was young, Taze grew close temporarily close to Querulous, the kind but quiet scribe of History, but her strong nature and his humbleness quickly drove them apart, and they both believe their brief union a mistake best left in the past. One day the withdrawn Ridgeback may develop a bond with another dragon, such as her good friend Teravolt, but for now she considers such attachments to be a distraction, and focuses her attention on training new recruits, scheduling patrols, and heading confrontations when skirmishes occur.

On War
Conflicts between The Lastsparks and hostiles occasionally arise, and when peace talks fail it is then necessary for the clan to defend themselves by force. An envoy is sent to allow the enemy a chance to surrender, and if they decline then an acceptance of warfare is taken back to the lair who then prepare for combat. As Captain of the Guard, Taze confers with her most trusted warriors, and together they discuss strategies and plan their assault. The clan's combative mages are drafted, and the defensive sorcerers and healers will wait in the wings to administer aid when needed. Allies of the clan are sometimes called upon to assist, of which The Lastsparks have many, including samurai warriors from the wind region, deep-sea sentinels from New Atlantis, and even mercenaries and necromancers. When the time comes for the ridgeback to lead her troops, her rugged, leathery wings are hung with an embellished banner, and her body is clad in heavy, tarnished armour. Taze's scarred face is hidden under her spiked helmet, her bright cunning eyes always watchful. Only the bravest, and the most foolish of foes choose to go up against Taze, her army, and the clan that they represent...
