Dragon Log

An older, somewhat bored hatchling, she wandered in from another Arcane Clan when she was just 5 days old, and immediately caught the interest of the other Spirals in the Clan. Her particular strengths in magic have not truly developed yet, but considering the familiar she attracted within an hour of her arrival, it seems likely that she will be more proficient in the more unusual--and fantastical--aspects of magical energy....

10-6-15: She has found her vocation... and her name! It seems that for her the magic of dreams is real, and mutable. Perhaps she and a certain Pearlcatcher should compare notes....

11-5-15: The Fluted Pukasloth had Awakened! Perhaps now they will have a better chance to find him a name--and to figure out which dream realm he wandered in from....

1-14-17: The quest for a name continues, and the Fluted Pukasloth has decided to do a bit of exploring in the hopes of finding some inspiration. In the meantime, however, he has not left his dragon bereft. After a long wait the Rosy Peryton that joined the Clan a moonturn ago has finally found a worthy dragon companion. Dreamweaver is thrilled by her choice....

4-19-17: The Rosy Peryton has Awakened! Dreamweaver is ecstatic for her young companion, and looking forward to see what the graceful creature will do with herself now....

1-28-18: Shocking everyone in the Clan, Dreamweaver has entered the Sornieth Winter Games! Even more amazingly, she chose the Figure Skating Event...

The shy Arcane Spiral flexed her body, limbering up for her debut on the ice. She still wasn't sure how she had gotten into this, as she had never tried anything like this ever before. Dream had to admit, though, that it sounded like something right up her alley when Spellweaver and Runemaster had described their own experience two years before. Admittedly, they were using their bodies and the music to create a visual "explosion," while she was going for something a bit more surreal, but it was the same concept...at least she hoped so....Jerking her head up at the announcement of her number, Dreamweaver took a slow breath to center herself, and then glided slowly onto the ice.

Various dragons of the Clan crowded close to watch as Dream took to the ice. Though she didn't know it, the quiet unassuming Spiral had a great many supporters in the Clan, who hoped fervently that her first attempt at this Event would go well. They observed her slow start with some trepidation, knowing that some of the stunts she had practiced required speed...but soon enough the Clan--and many other dragons as well--found themselves caught up in the movement of the spinning Spiral.

Dream was moving slowly over the ice, weaving intricate patterns with her body, turning herself almost inside out as she moved, all at a slow, mesmerizing pace. The soft, dreamy music matched her performance perfectly, as a story began to unfold. The watching dragons could almost see the journey of a young dragon wandering lazily through life, taking turns without really caring, perfectly content. Caught, as it were, in a dream.

But long before this would have gotten boring, the music began to change, becoming faster, darker, with overtones of fear and doubt. Dreamweaver's pace increased in time with the music, her movements becoming more abrupt, almost jerky, her whole body radiating fear. She threw herself into turns now, and went up high as if trying to escape a pursuer...coming down in a nice Triple Axle. Abruptly, her whole body reversed, and she skated through herself, radiating determination, as if a dragon intent on facing that same pursuer...and the music changed again, first to a clarion call to battle, and then to overtones of triumph, as Dreamweaver performed a series of intricate maneuvers very reminiscent of a Spiral fighting an unknown--but ultimately beatable--foe. In the process, she managed several more Axles--among them two Doubles and another Triple--several spins on the skate tip, and a few other, more dragonesque, skating displays. The performance ended with Dreamweaver turning as if pursing a fleeing enemy, and then performing a slower twisting that looked nothing so much like a young dragon preening herself after a hard-win victory.

As the music returned once more to a slower, dreamy tempo, the usually shy Spiral made one last circuit of the ice and then skated off, grinning in pure joy. That had been fun!

The Clan glanced at each other, letting out breaths they hadn't even know that they were holding. That had been...amazing...and different. The question was, would the Judges like it?

2-6-18: The Judges did like Dreamweaver's performance, a lot. Unfortunately, they liked several other performances a lot more. Dream did not win a medal this year, but she made a good showing at the Games, wowed her Clan, and, most importantly of all, had a lot of fun. Perhaps she'll bring home a medal next year...if she can figure out where to practice...

10-2-18: It has come as no surprise to the Clan--or to Dreamweaver herself--that the strange magical phenomenon apparently sweeping through the Starfall Isles should have left its "mark" on her. The only real question to be asked is why it took so long for the Spellwrought Halo to appear around this particular Spiral’s head...

2-12-22: It has been some time since any of the unbonded familiars have taken a liking to a particular dragon, so it was quite a surprise when the Clan's Sweetheart Swan wandered over to the sleeping Dreamweaver and curled up beside her. Perhaps the Spiral's dreams have been a bit more....romantic lately? Or perhaps the Swan has decided that he is tired of being alone, and will Tolerate a dragon bond in return for some companionship. Whatever the reason, the two seem to be surprisingly well matched....

5-4-22: "Flighty," the Sweetheart Swan, has Awakened! Maybe now Dreamweaver can find out why he was interested in spending time with her in the first place...Wait, what's this? Another Swan?! Oh dear, it looks like the Spiral's dreams are becoming a bit realistic again...hopefully the poor Charming Swan can find a nice dragon elsewhere in the Clan to bond with....
