An OoC note:
Heya, and welcome to the first non-holiday Eightleaf Town roleplaying thread! (Signups for the Eightleaf RP community are found here, if you're interested in joining and haven't alright signed up. Please don't post unless your dragon(s) has/have finished the signing up process! Note: there is also a chronicle of previous Eightleaf Town rp threads or related stories in the linked thread.)
Given that descriptions take a while to both read and write, I'll only describe things that haven't been described in previous Eightleaf Town RP threads. Changes in decor may be noted, but if a place has already been described, then there's not really much point in describing it again.
I hope you enjoy this next Eightleaf thread!
Some time had passed since the Starfall Celebration, and Eightlesf Town had settled back into its normal routines. The Starfall decorations had been put away, the friendly, local policedragons wandered the streets, ever vigilant for potential threads to the town's citizens and visitors, the shops ran their trades, and everyone went about their usual business.
In the police station, however, things were a little bit more hectic. It was an unusually busy day, and Fannar was currently manning the front desk, apologetically explaining what he could of their situation to a young Coatl.
"I understand, Ma'am, but the chief is very busy right now," he was saying, a sympathetic smile on his face. "I wish we could help you, but you're just going to have to be patient."
"Well... How long do you think it will be before I can see him?" she asked.
Fannar sighed and shook his head. "It's hard to say."
Then, something seemed to occur to him. After pondering it for a moment, he explained, "Well... There is a detective in town, and I think a few adventuring dragons have been around recently. I don't know if they'll be able to help, but you could try asking them. For the detective, you'll have to see him in his office when he's available, but if you'd like to request the help of someone else, you could put a want ad up on our bulletin board. That's what it's there for, after all. You'd have to put a reward down for the job, though."
The Coatl looked over to the indicated bulletin board. ((Second post on linked page.)) Currently, it was just being used for advertisements for local businesses, but evidently, it was also used for cases open to the public, whether from the police's own overflow, or from individual dragons' requests. The latter ranged from lost pets to odd job ads, to shop advertisements.
Both the Coatl and Officer Fannar, however, were a little unsure of that particular route, given her expressed request. This young female's name was Arianna, and she was asking for an escort to the Fortress of Ends. Being a chief of police, Chief Grip was the most likely to get her access to the fortress. But perhaps, if she could just make it there, one of the dragons who worked at the fortress itself could get her in.
"I'll...think about it," she reluctantly answered. Then, she gave the policedragon a bit of a sorry smile. "Thank you, Officer Fannar. And please, if the chief has the time--"
Fannar smiled warmly at her and raised a paw to halt her speech. Kindly, he told her, "I'll be sure to let you know."
At least somewhat reassured, Arianna smiled at the Tundra. "Thank you."
His smile became a bit more chipper. "Of course!"
With a brief farewell and a wave, Fannar got back to his desk work and Arianna began heading towards the police department's doors. What am I going to do? she wondered. She was in over her head -- that much was clear. Things certainly weren't as simple as she'd imagined they'd be when she first set out from the Sunbeam Ruins. Her mind quickly became absolutely preoccupied and muddled with a mix of potential steps forward, and reflecting on her journey to this point.
Meanwhile, back in Chief Grip's office...
"DePero," the chief sighed, "we could use your help."
"How so?" the Pearlcatcher asked. Chief Grip had just finished expressing how busy his dragons had been lately, after being asked why Detective DePero had been called in by the dragon himself.
Chief Grip leveled a serious look at the private investigator. "There's been a series of raids traced back to Pinecoast's shipyard. My dragons have been scrambling to find whoever's behind it, but so far, nothing. I keep sending more and more dragons, and I'm getting tired of it. I thought that, maybe, they could benefit from the help of a specialist such as yourself -- someone trained to see what no one else can."
"More dragons isn't usually the solution -- a veteran such as yourself knows that. Why keep sending dragons?" asked DePero.
The corner of the chief's mouth slowly rose into a sort of half-grin. Then, he began slightly bobbing his head in a nod. "I knew I was asking the right dragon." He nodded. "You're right. There's more to it..."
