Today’s species: the dibbler!

The dibbler (Parantechinus apicalis) is an endangered species of marsupial. Dibbler is a traditional name from a dialect of the indigenous Australian Noongar language. Found in Western Australia, this small dasyurid inhabits vegetation areas with sandy soils. It is identifiable by gray-brown fur speckled white around its eyes. This nocturnal species is a carnivore, and uses its large canine teeth to kill mice, birds, lizards, and insects, though it also feeds on nectar. Once thought extinct due to its greatly diminished abundance, it remains threatened by forest fires, land clearing, and predation by feral foxes and cats.
THAT NAME IS BEAUTIFUL! LOOK AT THAT CUTE FACE!

Awww! That’s an awesome, adorable little killer! Nothing’s cooler than a rat-esq nectar eating marsupial going around hunting birds and reptiles for dinner

Today’s species: the geometric tortoise!

The geometric tortoise (Psammobates geometricus) is critically endangered species of tortoise native to South Africa. The distinctive, geometric black and yellow patterns on its carapace blend in with its environment, protecting it from predators. It lives in lowland shrubland and heathland belts known as fynbos, and feeds on plants, flowers, and shoots. Its habitat has been reduced to less than 3% of its original size. With only 2,000-3,000 individuals on Earth, this shy creature is one of the rarest tortoise species in the world.

Today’s species: the Upemba lechwe!

The Upemba lechwe (Kobus lechwe anselli) is a critically endangered subspecies of antelope found in the Kamalondo Depression, a large, lake-filled depression in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Upemba wetlands. It feeds on floodplain and aquatic grasses in its wetland habitat. Lechwes are diurnal ungulates that live in single-sea herds, though they mix during the mating season. Lechwes such as this subspecies are hunted for meat, and it is thus threatened by poaching.
