Editors note: the origonal name for this thread was "Theory: Level of technology on Sornieth" On February 2nd , 2018 my friend said to me in a conversation about the lightning flight and if they have TV or radio
"I've mentally modelled Lightning Flight as lower-tech than it actually probably is so I can't really comment on the T.V. thing" • • • (in regards to lightning's capability for technology) "One thing I noticed was that official stuff (fest apparel) often has a different aesthetic from community stuff (skins and accents) and sleek futuristic cyber stuff tends to appear as more of a community thing" • • •
This got me thinking about the topic as large but I was unable to fully comment on it, however it was a very noteworthy point that found a place in my subconscious and was able to hitch a ride and stick with me. On February 6th 2018 our mouse lord Aequorin gave us a shocking revolation which is in the vain regarding lightning flight's technology canonically.

Considering the technological advances of the Lightning flight (and other flights, to a lesser extent), have dragons created their own version of the Internet? If so, do they have any social media, such as Faebook, Tundr, Imperigram? (Or hopefully more creatively named versions?)

The dragons do not yet have Internet access. This is for the best, as certain gods might waste all their time browsing memes and social media...

Which got me thinking of a prethera of other theories I could cover regarding a fun one of "which god would be most likely to look at memes" which i might do later. But one thing that was nagging me was "Why wouldn't they have a magical version of the internet." On this dates writing of Feb 10 2018 I spent a large chunk of my time studying game desgine for the future videogames I plan to make once I am out of uni, hopping from studying dungeons desgine of rooms to reading about hard magic and soft magic systems in narrative story telling that is seen in fantasy to scifi and super heros. The thought of this topic came back into my head and figured that since I am looking at the root of alot of these genras I should look at the root of where the internet came from for us humans to help better solve the problem of how advance dragon kind is. and at the 0:27 mark of this video i slammed the pause space button because it all put itself together then and there. Hi! it's me, Catti. And today I am going to be covering the topic of what level of advanced technology the lightning flight canonically holds. trying to cover the amount of technological advancements within a fictional universe that has magic can be rather tricky, not to mention adding on the fact that we as humans can only view things from the human perspective and these dragons are far from anything human like outside of their society and psychological make up. With that in mind however we can use what we had in the past as a sort of bench mark to compare what dragons have in this society. We can then, after understanding what we have in terms of technology then twist this thinking and apply diffrent variabols such as the dragon race with all those pesky claws without thumbs and magic and size and mass as well. With that said there are some things to keep in mind before diving into this. 1) "Technology" within this sence regards to "pure technology" or anything that is not powered by magic. Anything a human can fesaboly make. this is regarding pure power of one's creative mind to make an event happen. No mechnical parts or otherwise must be handeled by the dragon inorder for it to count as "technology". 2) Skins do not apply as "Technology" in this theory. Yes there are some great skin out there especialy from the lightning festivals in particular. Heck even I use two in my own perma dragons in my own lair whom both (eventualy) will be lore related to the lightning flight at large within my own writing. [item=Accent: Electronic Bionics] [item= Skin: Antique Cowboy ] And I view skins like these and any other skins for that matter a large important part of both this comunities identiy and lore at large. However from the perspective of this theory technology such as this and may other aspects of cannon lore such as these cuteguys [item=black iron creeper] will be regarded as "magic tech hybrids"- or technology that can only exist when magic is being used on them. Since canonically every dragon has a bit of magic in them, weather it is good or not, they can use their own body to generate power –more than what a human can create– and thus can bypass some neuonces of having biomechanical limbs to have power sorces for example. in short, tho skins id considered a huge part of lore for everyone's clan–in the end– they are still fan made content and do genualy differ from the main lightning lore. This post is not going out to invalidate your own creations that you have made created. in one of my dragon's bios hosts a library of an asortment of dragon bios i pick up and store for later. One I so often look at is one made by the user @Neuromancer (it's the 2nd lightning badge if you follow my first link). It's well made and I often recall them posting around i nthe apst saying how much time it took to breed the perfect dragon to match that skin that was custom made. The lore about a roge dragon, corupted, making an AI that goes out of control. (click on the dragon to read more). My theory is not out there to dismiss the hard work that both the artist and the auther have made into making this lovely work of art. My theory is talking about cannon lore and to hopefully help others try to stick with cannon lore as much as they can but still streatch what is posiabol yet struggle to do so. For the sake of my theory, the above dragon would also classify as "Hybrid technology"–things made with magic that can bypass some smaller yet vital mechanics of how things function– wile today I am focusing on "true technology" 3) though I will be covering "true technology" I will be covering some limits of magic that I theories to be in play within this world to help just explain things over all and why things are they way they are. These "jumps of logic" are calculated by logical assumtions and quotes from the devs from the past. Now, with that all out of the way, let's dive into the main question "What level of technology does sornieth have?" But to aweser that queston I think it is best to start with another question. Point 1) What does the internet have to do with any of this? A large % of this population odds are where born around the time wile the internet was a thing or was still growing. A much smaller population of the user base where around the age where they were able to see the shift between a pre and post internet era. The internet has drasticaly changed how we interact, develop, and grow as a race as a whole. It has made everything easyer, and for me personaly it is very hard for me to recall the days back when the internet wasn't a thing due to how young I am. I only hazaly remember it. And outside of the internet, technology exploded from the 1990s to today. The internet as we know it however has been around since the cold war era, birthed around 1969, atleast at what i consider it to be. required recomended video 1 to watch: HISTORY OF THE INTERNET Another reason why, at the start, i paused at 0:27 was because the lightning flight is canonicaly based off of COLD WAR USSR And the cold war lasted from 1945 to 1991 and if i where to mae a blind guest personaly, id pick the middle number between those two dates to refrence technology from that year, and the middle number is 1967 AND THATS REALLY DAMN CLOSE TO 1969 theres this phanomina in space travel speculation of this tipping point where one event happends that –past that point– can not stop a chain reaction of us heading into space. for me that date of 1969 and that successfully transfer of single (hardly compleated) word was the internet's tipping point of becoming a "thing", because it could only get better from there. the date 1969 and all technology before that day I first hypothesizes as cannon and plausible for dragon kind to have within the lightning flight because again quote.
The dragons do not yet have Internet access. This is for the best, as certain gods might waste all their time browsing memes and social media...
So long as they do not have the internet (and especially not the internet we are using right now) all else is fair game. To stretch suspension of what can be, it can be a range of 1970s technology to be their "max" with magical advacments". With that I stopped there for now and thought I was pleaed with my results, but then i relized something that I was reall baffuled by. Point 2) "What the hell is a 'computer' and what goes into making it?" I relized that computer and internet are not the same thing and that anichant human technology was actualy really advanced for it's time. So after somedigging around I was able to find some videos that better discribe the information I have gathered. To understand the rest of my assumtions later on you have to have watched these videos recomend videos 2-5: Crash Course Computer Science 1-3 (30ish min of watch time) Watching these videos can give you a better appreshation of techonology that was made in the past, but may also inspire you to create some interesting headcannons of how Stormcatcher was able to biuld his technology empire and the stepping stones he had to make from scratch to get there. As for a thought exspariment to check to see if you watched these videos AND UNDERSTAND how they could apply to FR lore biulding OR think you know enough about the history of computers to continue on without confusion, consider not reading any further in this post until you can respond to this question: What dragon breed would Stormcatcher put in charge to solve any bug issues with this EXACT computer you see above? Hint 1: read the text in the image (highlight+copy+paste for hint) Hint 2: (There are 6 possible answers, but one "best" solution) ((the "best" solution will be at the bottom of this post)) (highlight+copy+paste for hint) After I reviewed those videos I felt fine enough to write this theiory in full, and that it confirmed my idea of dragons being as advance around 1960-70s technology since the transistor was made around the 1950s. The overlap of ~ +20 years would compensate for the hybrid technologies such as things found in skins since mechanicaly they'ed be simpeler. But then I relized something with assuming that the hybrid technologies in play. Point 3) What would they even need to make? When thinking about technology technology is there to surve a porpuse. Computuers didn't really change anything, it just allowed us to work faster Technology is there to improve the individual. To bring up some noteworthy quotes from the videos before in crashcorse. "At each increase of knowledge as well as on the contrivance of every new tool, human labour becomes abridged" "it is a beneath the dignity of excellent men to waste their time in calculation when any peasant could do the work just as accurately with the aid of a machine" macheens help with WORK FLOW and what is Stormcatcher about? WORK it's why he yells alot in the damn first place. He treats this as a biusness as a indrestry to keep things going. He wouldnt throw away technology like what we did in the past. For examplethe first steam endgen was made in 1698 by a brit named Thomas Savery and this allowedso much advacment in technology in terms of productivity that you can look into yourself to see where steemed lead to. HOWEVER This is compleatly overminds the fact that in around the year 100 the ROMAN made the real first steam endgen called Aeolipile this invention would have replaced a lot of slave workers because they could have made esentualy tracters or other things that need an endgen to function. But because the roman's already had slaves to do their work they didn't even need nor want to prosue this ground bracking technology. If this + so many other technology was presurved we would already be in space as a human race asuming the same acceloration of technology was there. To put this in a dragon perspective and if this was to actualy happen with FR's cahracters. It'd be as if one of Shadowbinder's exulted presented her this steam endgen and told her what it could do and she'd just be like "Phh, what's this you give me? I have Minions to do my bidding." Then just threw the offoring with all the other trash that surounds the Obscured Crescent. BUT if stormcatcher got wind of his steam endgen never invented before was in the shadow flight, AND he had no way to recreate it WITHOUT having that pysical copy? i'd bet you 500 gems that 2 minnets after that discovery + reliziation Shadowbinder would sence a disturbance in the shadows coming yonder over the horizen, turn her head in the direction of the sorce, and then see this mother !@#$er not even 50 yards from her face screaming GIVE THAT TO ME! BUT AT THE SAME TIME AS WELL why would dragons even need to invent planes???they can fly???? HELL [item= Copper Steampunk Wings] THEY MADE SOMETHING TO COVER PLANES ALREADY. Their level of technology would heavily depend on what they NEED. SO i asked a friend who i know that is a blacksmith, loves himself some scif and fantacy races / lore, works with 100+ years old "technology" to ask him on his oppinion about what level of technology FR dragons would have. I left magic out at the start so that his thoughts wouldnt be scewed. and as of note, in my honest oppinion if your a type of guy who works on old tech like this for a living: and this !@#$ looks like other !@#$ that's in the game? [item=Charged Sprocket] I think his life experience, education, and take on this topic would be very relevant to us as a whole. [s](the images you see above are taken from his work)[/s] Point 4) What my friend's take on it is [s]wow i cant think of a better name than that?…[/s] Now for this section I tryed to actualy record my conversation with him but saddly my recording softwear failed on me twice, the second time happend after we had the whole talk and it didnt actualy record his voice. SO I will try to relay as much information as i can remember. as a small boon however I least was able to scanvage some doodles I made wile listening to him from the screen recording so you have something to look at. At the start he covered a lot of the general stuff that I said above about how advance the anchent world actualy was with humans, pluss the fact that these dragons are an alian race and we as humans can only think so much about it without being byest. one thing he brought up was the diffrent fourms of energy dragons as a "whole" can produce [s]this is him without any knowlage of the flights or the lore at large, just "dragons"[/s] [columns] (stormcatcher and his lightning sprite watching a fire breathing dragon breathing fire on a combustion based endgen (think a car) in in the image you see right now).[nextcol] He stated that dragons would have a lot of issues in regarding technology, he theorized that the dragons would need to be black smyths inorder to get anything done in the firstplace. That and they would need to have thumbs in order to craft tools. After that they would need a way to produce energy. There where sevral theories he pondered about on how they could gather energy from various other sources. The two we talked about the most was combustion and steam powered. however he brought up the point "why would a dragon even make combustion when they can breath fire "they already HAVE the combustion built into them so it'd be redundant and honestly pointless from their perspective. It'd be like "Look! i ran this thing that works off of fire!" then the other dragon going; "………but why?". It'd be silly." Dragons also would have no need to invest too much into things such as the internet- or even methods of transportation- as quickly becacause 'they're dragons, they got wings right?' The best use of power they could conger by themselves [s]again he does not fully know about "lightnign flight"[/s] is by tapping into steam power, because fire breathing dragons can run steam [/columns] Now naturaly this is withhim just thinkign the basics of dragons and what they are, I didnt tell him at the start about the lore. After some ways into the conversation i starteld to tell him the concept of flights, and he bounced back that the fire dragons could help ligtning dragons create their technologyies and i cant find the quote but the heads of this place did state that fire and lightning dragons often do get along . Naturaly though as the conversation went on "flight" odds are triggered thoughts of "space exsploration" so I let him in on how some of the flights work, talking about lightnnning fireand of corse arcane for a wile. I told him about the Arcane flgiht and how their leader praticaly runs his whole """people""" about astrominty and his comments where rather interesting. [columns] "You need a lot of math to get into space, and you don't need math to necessarily do astronomy, plenty of people in the past studied the stars without advance mathematics. You also need ((IIRC)) calculus in order to get into space……I don't even know if you can get into space with steam power now that I think about it. I don't think thats enough power. Pluss these dragons look rather big ((from the images I sent him of sizes and scales)) Me: do you want to know how heavy they are? Him: sure Me: Okay Let me grab my biggest boy that I have …" Me: My biggest dragon weighs in at around 8900 kg. >long pause >I think the call glitch and didnt pick me up Me: He weighs in at about 8900 kg him: I heard you. Sorry, you mean to say 890kg? Me: No, eight–thousand–nine–hundred killa g- Him: DO YOU KNOW JUST HOW HEAVY THAT IS?! Me: …y-yes?? m-maybe?? Him: DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH POWER IT TAKES TO EVEN GET INTO SPACE?! Me: …n-…n-no?? [nextcol] (Arcanist is crying in the image above)[/columns] He then proceeded to describe how much fule it takes to get to space and how much it costs material wise just to get 5 humans out into outerspace, and how these dragons should lose weight. But i honestly hardly remember much because of how hard I was laughing wile I was both drawing and imagining arcanist's disappointment if he lived in our world and had no magic to work off of. After I was able to calm down I could finaly pitch back in. [columns] (stormcatcher, thinking about making tatical nukes he could shoot into orbit and have crash down on a crudely drawn Sorneith next to him) [nextcol] Me: I guess that lightning leader (stormcatcher) wouldn't be able to put orbital nukes into space even if he wanted to wouldn't he? Him: No he wouldn't Me: I guess also that focusing on war and fighting would also limit what you can create wouldn't it? Him: Not necessarily. [/columns] [columns] (stormcatcher thinking about firing missiles at the Arcane flight from his flight) [nextcol] Him: being in war would actually make a lot of opportunities for innovation that could trickel down into other fields of development and life. For example making rockets wouldn't be out of the question at all with the technology that he is capable of making of [s](((he has not seen any images of the game regarding Stormcatcher nor holiday apparel[/s] ))) [/columns] It was at this point i discribed the magic in sorneith and how some flights work. I only got thorugh just a fraction of it before he intorupted me [columns] Him: Magic? "Well then everythings on the table at that point, you could just warp to space with enough magic power"… "Why even bother with technology!" [nextcol] (stormcatcher angry at the thought that arcanist can just warp into space and ignor all science to boot too. in addition to other factors to his rage… Arcanist is holding up a peace sgine as he floats above sorneith) [/columns] We went on for a little wile longer but even tho this wasnt the whole conversation this is all that i could remember of the converstion. however thorughout the whole conversation and at the end he stated that he felt that the dragons technology would be around the 1920s and not the 1960s as the most logical "pure techonolgical" power dragons would have (from a humans perspective). Though i think thats off personally, what do you guys think? Does the 1920s seem right too you? or 1960s? a range from there? or do you think magic puts them light years ahead of us (…not distance but you get what i mean). Sincerely, Catti. …… … P.S I hope that this thought experiment helped you write some more cannon lore, and if you agree or disagree feel free to post in the comment section. I highly encourage future readers to read thread conversations, atleast skim through. ill be eding the front page if i can with updates on interesting page numbers. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Which got me thinking of a prethera of other theories I could cover regarding a fun one of "which god would be most likely to look at memes" which i might do later. But one thing that was nagging me was "Why wouldn't they have a magical version of the internet."

On this dates writing of Feb 10 2018 I spent a large chunk of my time studying game desgine for the future videogames I plan to make once I am out of uni, hopping from studying dungeons desgine of rooms to reading about hard magic and soft magic systems in narrative story telling that is seen in fantasy to scifi and super heros.

Heck even I use two in my own perma dragons in my own lair whom both (eventualy) will be lore related to the lightning flight at large within my own writing.

dragon?did=35543223&skin=23590&apparel=&xt=dressing.png
Accent: Electronic Bionics
dragon?did=34113855&skin=23597&apparel=&xt=dressing.png
Skin: Antique Cowboy

And I view skins like these and any other skins for that matter a large important part of both this comunities identiy and lore at large. However from the perspective of this theory technology such as this and may other aspects of cannon lore such as these cuteguys
Black Iron Creeper 7591.png

will be regarded as "magic tech hybrids"- or technology that can only exist when magic is being used on them.

30079401_350.png

It's well made and I often recall them posting around i nthe apst saying how much time it took to breed the perfect dragon to match that skin that was custom made. The lore about a roge dragon, corupted, making an AI that goes out of control. (click on the dragon to read more). My theory is not out there to dismiss the hard work that both the artist and the auther have made into making this lovely work of art. My theory is talking about cannon lore and to hopefully help others try to stick with cannon lore as much as they can but still streatch what is posiabol yet struggle to do so. For the sake of my theory, the above dragon would also classify as "Hybrid technology"–things made with magic that can bypass some smaller yet vital mechanics of how things function– wile today I am focusing on "true technology"

3) though I will be covering "true technology" I will be covering some limits of magic that I theories to be in play within this world to help just explain things over all and why things are they way they are. These "jumps of logic" are calculated by logical assumtions and quotes from the devs from the past.

Now, with that all out of the way, let's dive into the main question "What level of technology does sornieth have?"
But to aweser that queston I think it is best to start with another question.

The internet as we know it however has been around since the cold war era, birthed around 1969, atleast at what i consider it to be.

required recomended video 1 to watch: HISTORY OF THE INTERNET

Another reason why, at the start, i paused at 0:27 was because the lightning flight is canonicaly based off of COLD WAR USSR

WHcQJA1.png

And the cold war lasted from 1945 to 1991
and if i where to mae a blind guest personaly, id pick the middle number between those two dates to refrence technology from that year, and the middle number is 1967 AND THATS REALLY DAMN CLOSE TO 1969

theres this phanomina in space travel speculation of this tipping point where one event happends that –past that point– can not stop a chain reaction of us heading into space.
for me that date of 1969 and that successfully transfer of single (hardly compleated) word was the internet's tipping point of becoming a "thing", because it could only get better from there.

the date 1969 and all technology before that day I first hypothesizes as cannon and plausible for dragon kind to have within the lightning flight because again quote.
Mouse Lord Aequorin wrote:
The dragons do not yet have Internet access. This is for the best, as certain gods might waste all their time browsing memes and social media...

So long as they do not have the internet (and especially not the internet we are using right now) all else is fair game. To stretch suspension of what can be, it can be a range of 1970s technology to be their "max" with magical advacments".

With that I stopped there for now and thought I was pleaed with my results, but then i relized something that I was reall baffuled by.

Point 2) "What the hell is a 'computer' and what goes into making it?"

I relized that computer and internet are not the same thing and that anichant human technology was actualy really advanced for it's time. So after somedigging around I was able to find some videos that better discribe the information I have gathered. To understand the rest of my assumtions later on you have to have watched these videos

recomend videos 2-5: Crash Course Computer Science 1-3 (30ish min of watch time)

Watching these videos can give you a better appreshation of techonology that was made in the past, but may also inspire you to create some interesting headcannons of how Stormcatcher was able to biuld his technology empire and the stepping stones he had to make from scratch to get there.

As for a thought exspariment to check to see if you watched these videos AND UNDERSTAND how they could apply to FR lore biulding OR think you know enough about the history of computers to continue on without confusion, consider not reading any further in this post until you can respond to this question:

6moV1qd.png
What dragon breed would Stormcatcher put in charge to solve any bug issues with this EXACT computer you see above?

Hint 1: read the text in the image (highlight+copy+paste for hint)
Hint 2: (There are 6 possible answers, but one "best" solution)
((the "best" solution will be at the bottom of this post))
(highlight+copy+paste for hint)

After I reviewed those videos I felt fine enough to write this theiory in full, and that it confirmed my idea of dragons being as advance around 1960-70s technology since the transistor was made around the 1950s.

Computuers didn't really change anything, it just allowed us to work faster

Technology is there to improve the individual.

To bring up some noteworthy quotes from the videos before in crashcorse.
"At each increase of knowledge as well as on the contrivance of every new tool, human labour becomes abridged"
"it is a beneath the dignity of excellent men to waste their time in calculation when any peasant could do the work just as accurately with the aid of a machine"

macheens help with WORK FLOW and what is Stormcatcher about? WORK
it's why he yells alot in the damn first place. He treats this as a biusness as a indrestry to keep things going. He wouldnt throw away technology like what we did in the past.

For examplethe first steam endgen was made in 1698 by a brit named Thomas Savery

PSM_V12_D037_Savery_engine_1699.jpg
and this allowedso much advacment in technology in terms of productivity that you can look into yourself to see where steemed lead to.

HOWEVER This is compleatly overminds the fact that in around the year 100 the ROMAN made the real first steam endgen called Aeolipile

440px-Aeolipile_illustration.png

this invention would have replaced a lot of slave workers because they could have made esentualy tracters or other things that need an endgen to function.

It'd be as if one of Shadowbinder's exulted presented her this steam endgen and told her what it could do and she'd just be like

XbgyY9W.png "Phh, what's this you give me? I have Minions to do my bidding."

Then just threw the offoring with all the other trash that surounds the Obscured Crescent.

BUT
if stormcatcher got wind of his steam endgen never invented before was in the shadow flight, AND he had no way to recreate it WITHOUT having that pysical copy?
i'd bet you 500 gems that 2 minnets after that discovery + reliziation Shadowbinder would sence a disturbance in the shadows coming yonder over the horizen, turn her head in the direction of the sorce, and then see this mother !@#$er not even 50 yards from her face screaming

E5sPkTb.png
RWzslLL.png GIVE THAT TO ME!

BUT
AT THE SAME TIME AS WELL
why would dragons even need to invent planes???they can fly????
HELL

Copper Steampunk Wings
THEY MADE SOMETHING TO COVER PLANES ALREADY.

Their level of technology would heavily depend on what they NEED.

SO

i asked a friend who i know that is a blacksmith, loves himself some scif and fantacy races / lore, works with 100+ years old "technology" to ask him on his oppinion about what level of technology FR dragons would have. I left magic out at the start so that his thoughts wouldnt be scewed.

and as of note, in my honest oppinion if your a type of guy who works on old tech like this for a living:

hoSU05D.jpg
vgvlnq5.jpg
39DzLKr.jpg

and this !@#$ looks like other !@#$ that's in the game?

Elecpowerpack_mmirror.pngLivewire_Grizzly.png
chssIAF.png Charged Sprocket

I think his life experience, education, and take on this topic would be very relevant to us as a whole.
(the images you see above are taken from his work)

Point 4) What my friend's take on it is
wow i cant think of a better name than that?…

Now for this section I tryed to actualy record my conversation with him but saddly my recording softwear failed on me twice, the second time happend after we had the whole talk and it didnt actualy record his voice. SO I will try to relay as much information as i can remember. as a small boon however I least was able to scanvage some doodles I made wile listening to him from the screen recording so you have something to look at.

At the start he covered a lot of the general stuff that I said above about how advance the anchent world actualy was with humans, pluss the fact that these dragons are an alian race and we as humans can only think so much about it without being byest. one thing he brought up was the diffrent fourms of energy dragons as a "whole" can produce this is him without any knowlage of the flights or the lore at large, just "dragons"

vZzugxV.png (stormcatcher and his lightning sprite watching a fire breathing dragon breathing fire on a combustion based endgen (think a car) in in the image you see right now).
He stated that dragons would have a lot of issues in regarding technology, he theorized that the dragons would need to be black smyths inorder to get anything done in the firstplace. It'd be silly."
Dragons also would have no need to invest too much into things such as the internet- or even methods of transportation- as quickly becacause 'they're dragons, they got wings right?'
The best use of power they could conger by themselves again he does not fully know about "lightnign flight" is by tapping into steam power, because fire breathing dragons can run steam

Now naturaly this is withhim just thinkign the basics of dragons and what they are, I didnt tell him at the start about the lore.

"You need a lot of math to get into space, and you don't need math to necessarily do astronomy, plenty of people in the past studied the stars without advance mathematics. You also need ((IIRC)) calculus in order to get into space……I don't even know if you can get into space with steam power now that I think about it. I don't think thats enough power. Pluss these dragons look rather big ((from the images I sent him of sizes and scales))

Me: do you want to know how heavy they are?
Him: sure
Me: Okay Let me grab my biggest boy that I have
…"

Me: My biggest dragon weighs in at around 8900 kg.

>long pause
>I think the call glitch and didnt pick me up

Me: He weighs in at about 8900 kg
him: I heard you. Sorry, you mean to say 890kg?
Me: No, eight–thousand–nine–hundred killa g-
Him: DO YOU KNOW JUST HOW HEAVY THAT IS?!
Me: …y-yes?? m-maybe??
Him: DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH POWER IT TAKES TO EVEN GET INTO SPACE?!
Me: …n-…n-no??
RwECgKe.png
(Arcanist is crying in the image above)

He then proceeded to describe how much fule it takes to get to space and how much it costs material wise just to get 5 humans out into outerspace, and how these dragons should lose weight. But i honestly hardly remember much because of how hard I was laughing wile I was both drawing and imagining arcanist's disappointment if he lived in our world and had no magic to work off of. After I was able to calm down I could finaly pitch back in.

idoB2Rq.png
(stormcatcher, thinking about making tatical nukes he could shoot into orbit and have crash down on a crudely drawn Sorneith next to him)
Me: I guess that lightning leader (stormcatcher) wouldn't be able to put orbital nukes into space even if he wanted to wouldn't he?

Him: No he wouldn't

Me: I guess also that focusing on war and fighting would also limit what you can create wouldn't it?

Him: Not necessarily.
d6INrR3.png
(stormcatcher thinking about firing missiles at the Arcane flight from his flight)
Him: being in war would actually make a lot of opportunities for innovation that could trickel down into other fields of development and life. For example making rockets wouldn't be out of the question at all with the technology that he is capable of making of (((he has not seen any images of the game regarding Stormcatcher nor holiday apparel )))

It was at this point i discribed the magic in sorneith and how some flights work. I only got thorugh just a fraction of it before he intorupted me

Him: Magic? "Well then everythings on the table at that point, you could just warp to space with enough magic power"… "Why even bother with technology!" TLGNDI5.png
(stormcatcher angry at the thought that arcanist can just warp into space and ignor all science to boot too. in addition to other factors to his rage…
Arcanist is holding up a peace sgine as he floats above sorneith)

We went on for a little wile longer but even tho this wasnt the whole conversation this is all that i could remember of the converstion.
however thorughout the whole conversation and at the end he stated that he felt that the dragons technology would be around the 1920s and not the 1960s as the most logical
"pure techonolgical" power dragons would have (from a humans perspective).

Though i think thats off personally, what do you guys think? Does the 1920s seem right too you? or 1960s? a range from there? or do you think magic puts them light years ahead of us (…not distance but you get what i mean).

Sincerely, Catti.

This is so interesting! I love all the in-depth headcanons and theories people come up with. It's a shame the recording didn't work, I would have loved to listen to the whole conversation. I never really thought about them having two types of tech, magic-aided and pure tech. Now I'm curious about this, I wish there was more canon lore to read..

@Thace
Well that's where headcannons come in.
with me i think in the depths of the lighting flight stormcatcher is working on artificial intelligence.
And i mean solely artificial with programing.
and something that would be truly independent of any forum of magic, due to if any electricty based technology made within the lightning flight, it would be still "a part of him".
A real goddly feat in this setting (FRs) would be able to create an artificial intelligence that was indepedent of all god influence.
Granted i think the problem he'd be running into is running such a divice without conventual means. Its hard to imagen something that would rely on anything that could generate electricty without his influence. There isnt anything like that in the world that cant work without electriy coming from somewhere that cant come from clouds. And all other fourms of energy sorces can easly be manipulated by other gods *cough* except for solar *cough*

to part the clouds to look for such a power sorce that could exsist beyond this planet would be blasphemy! How else can he create his lightning without Clouds!?!?

The company my clan runs is based on the fusion of technology and magic, so we're pretty advanced, but we're not the whole of Lightning. Like these guys: [item=golem gauntlet] [item=mistral minion] [item=coppercoil creeper] [item=steelhound] My company makes these, among other products. We're basically defense contractors, but we look at it more as "for furthering science and progress" rather than "for war" even though it's totally for war.

seeing you have science + magic lore exactly, did this theory help flesh out your ideas in anyway?
i was worryed wile typing this that it would come off as hostal or "rude" to people like you with your magic lore. Like it'd challange what you create.

@catgame21234 actually YES this post is giving me some ideas for what I can do with lore when I sit down to write some. And I'm not offended or find it rude at all - even if it completely contradicted everything I create for my clan's lore, that just means I have to come up with a counter for why it can exist (canon v. headcanon, or FR-canon v. clan-canon), like a backdrop of "much of the Shifting Expanse may be like this, but we're different because [thought-out reasons]". It provokes thought and discussion, sharing of ideas, rather than hostility. This is a good thing, from a writer's perspective.

@JonTargaryen with me i don't see how whati lay down is diffrent from much of the lore at all. You work off of cannon as well.
