Someone remind me tomorrow to try like a week of Hunting (it's my only maxed out food thing, though I'm relatively close on all but Fishing) to see the average there. Even if I do desperately need salt for the upcoming Gala....
One tick for my 80 something lair slots was about 160 points (it was like 34, 32, 42, 50??? I forget the specifics on fish and plants.)
Honestly, what doesn't help is that while it's easier to spend all your turns in one section, most lairs won't have a food type ALL dragons eat.
For example, a Bogsneak/Coatl/Auraboa lair will by default have to split the 15 turns into two groups (Fish and Meat) if they wanna actually feed their entire lair.

support! i coli but not often because it makes my carpal tunnel flare up. I spend all my gathering points on food unless i know i have enough to spare a few turns on digging (trying to level up). i have around 1k points in all of the food types but it's slowly dropping over time. i know i'll have to coli eventually but honestly it is miserable for me. i bond every day. i used to max fairgrounds every day but i just can't right now because of the pain it causes. yes the numbers in op's post were a little exaggerated but really can you blame someone for getting irritated with the fact that the main mechanic designed to give you food... doesn't give you food?
i'm currently a full time student, which means i have enough leisure time to spend on fr. i post on forums. i visit the trading post. i coli maybe twice a month. i can feed my dragons. but there have been times in the past where i couldn't log on for a few days and taking the hit plus the reduced gathering turns made me quit the entire site until i could come back to a fed lair. if that happened now i'd recover, but i've also been playing for 6 years. i don't want newer players to quit the game because they can't feed their dragons without coli, which can be (at least for me) physically damaging.
punishing players for not "playing the game right" is wild. the people selling food on the ah are getting it from coli and there are tons of ways to make money from coli. losing a bit of food sales because gathering actually feeds your dragons isn't as big of a blow as some people were making it out to be. and having a soft cap on your lair because of gathering is ridiculous. you should be able to fill the slots you just sank hundreds of thousands of treasure into without worrying about feeding your lair. you should be able to spend a couple turns digging or scavenging without getting punished for it. saying you have "no sympathy" for people who spend their gathering turns on anything but food is honestly baffling. some of you might have already unlocked all your den slots so maybe you've forgotten. you need items from digging/scavenging to unlock den slots. and some of those things are too expensive for non coli/non fg players to buy off the ah.
this post isn't directed solely at one player, but seriously. it's a pixel dragon game. seeing those full yellow bars brings me joy. it shouldn't be an ordeal to feed your beasts. just fix the turns so they actually scale with gathering level or give us more turns. it's not that deep.

Yeah, that's the problem. My splits aren't a huge deal for several reasons, but the biggest that is the main thing I keep out of the Hibden are my coli dragons which also happen to be my breeders (which are almost entirely Imps with some outliers). I have three or four WCs and a Fathom outside the den, so they're the only exceptions. I am probably an outlier in this regard, but I do feel having the total food point count could still help go toward what can be done. Gathering in different areas, I imagine, shouldn't really affect the total food point count (I mean... they should be the same logically, right?) anyway. I would hope not...
Edit: Oh and a Coatl who I forgot is in a different tab. Sorry, buddy. :'D

Just fix the turns so they actually scale with gathering level or give us more turns. it's not that deep.

They already do scale with level, to a significant degree.
Asking to have the outlier cases removed is being supported by everyone in here, and it isn't a personal affront to anyone when people reasonably points out that OP's 100fp gathering turn suggestions as a 'fix' is an unreasonable ask.

"yes the numbers in op's post were a little exaggerated..."
anyway, clearly the issue is that they don't scale properly. i believe having to supplement gathering with buying food or grinding coli is not something people should have to do, especially at level 40. there should be a minimum number of food points given with each turn so that people can actually feed their dragons with the food gathering mechanic.
i don't have a problem with people pointing out 100 point turns being unreasonable. i have a problem with people accusing other people of lying about their food yield and assuming everyone who can't get enough points are gambling addicts spending all of their turns scavenging.

They do scale properly. Max level gathering yields 550-600 fps pretty consistently, which is about how much you need to feed a maxed lair.
Fundamentally I disagree with the notion that it should never be required to supplement food regardless of play style. If you want to Scavenge, no one is telling you you're doing it 'wrong', but you personally need to understand that if you choose a play style that by necessity reduces the amount of food you can acquire on your own, it makes complete sense that you'd have to supplement through other users or other aspects of the site (like Baldwin for example).
We have about the same number of dragons, I have a mixed food lair, I use 1-3 points on Scavenging most days (or all during fests), I don't Coli, don't usually do fairgrounds, and spend 90% of Baldwin time dissolving stuff. On top of that sometimes I'll be too busy with work to remember to gather, it happens. Our circumstances are mostly the same, and yet it is still very easy to keep fed with maxed gathering levels.
Many people here have also been reporting similar numbers in the 400-650 range. That's why someone asked for a screenshot of a max level collective 160fp pull, because that's an absurdly low outlier that is something I think everyone would agree should be addressed. Everyone is already on board with eliminating the 1item (or non-food) pulls from Gathering, which inherently raises the average number of food points everyone gets.
Framing disagreement as a personal attack doesn't do anyone any good
Edit: typos

As the person who said "160", I assume that I'm the one being accused of lying and being asked to provide a screenshot (as I can't see all the posts on this thread) -- why would I lie about getting 160 food points. What purpose would that serve. Bizarre.
And why would I have a screenshot of that instance. I'm not screen-shotting my food conversion popups every day. I just remember one time doing a forage and realizing I'd somehow only gathered 160pts worth. It's not something that I replicate every day. Maybe that was a particularly rough outlier, maybe that day is the day I somehow ended up with 84 Firebugs, idk. It's just something I remember happening so I mentioned it. Everybody chill.

Using 7 turns for plants, 4 turns for insects, and 2 each for the rest of the types, I got 64 insects, 90 meat, 27 seafood, and 164 plants using the 'None' feature filter. I probably would had gotten more if I didn't filter which can be true (though I definitely do not remember what I gathered and I don't want to be bothered keeping track haha), but I may as well bring that up.

I just think people with max level lairs and max level gathering should get enough food to feed their lairs every day and perhaps build up a bit of a buffer in case they ever miss a day or want to invest a day in digging or scavenging. Maybe ever week devoted to gathering food will give enough food to spend a day digging/scavenging or something like that. I feel like that's fair enough

Support, the number of dragons we can have in our lair has more than doubled since the site came out but gathering hasn't been tuned to keep up with how many more dragons an individual can have active now
Also I'm seeing math being thrown around here and if it helps anyone, according to the
FR Fanwiki dragons lose 1 energy every 8hrs for 3 energy lost per dragon per day.
This means if you have the current max number of dragons in your lair, 225, you need 675 food points to keep your dragons fully fed, everyday
