Wildfire slowed his pace as he noticed the rest doing so, but kept the distance between them (not too close to create chaos if they were to be ambushed, but not too far to be too late late in intercepting an attack). He was on high alert, ears and whiskers perked and twitching, straining to listen or sense anything hiding in the underbrush. There was nothing aside from the leaves rustling and the prey flitting about, but Wildfire was attentive still to every sound the forest made, keeping down the small suspicion that Foxstar was behind every one. It would not do if he were distracted, and it would not do if he suspected everything.
He sniffed the air, trying to detect past his Clanmates, and thought he'd scented something until he noticed Brightleap lagging behind from her original position. Wildfire was a friend to everyone, but as much as he wanted to make the she-cat feel at home with them, he could not help but think she was up to something. Was this a ruse? Were they being set up? It would not be the first time Wildfire had been tricked by someone he had thought would not harm him. Memories of the old home surfaced, and he remembered how a cat he had once called a Clanmate turned on his sister, who had been heavily injured on the leg, and killed her instantly. If it had not been for another he had known back when the Clans were at peace, Wildfire would have died.
It's been so long, and Wildfire wonders how Redhorse is doing.
There had been many who looked away in discomfort at the mention of the old tom's name, and Wildfire guessed his death had left a large impact on their lives. In respect, he stopped bringing him up, but continued to thank him for the time then.
Now was not the time to reminisce, however, and Wildfire shook his head, catching the scent of another cat. Foxstar emerged from the undergrowth, and with him two more cats. They all had the underlying scent of MarshClan, and the black tom could practically taste the animosity and hostility spilling from his Clanmates - Addergaze especially.
As Foxstar began to speak, Wildfire pushed his way to the front, just beside the aforementioned tom. While Addergaze had always been a little too creepy for his tastes, Wildfire had admired his strength as an apprentice and always wanted to approach him, but chickened out at every last second - mostly because he was too hung up on thinking of actually talking to someone he idolized, creepy gaze or not. Now, though, allowed no room for such childish wonder and nervousness, and he flanked the older tom as he unsheathed his claws, hackles raised and muscles tensed, readying himself to attack.
The she-cat with Foxstar looked terrified, and probably was shaking if Wildfire squinted. But her readied claws and steady stance told him that she was not going without a fight, despite her showing belly. It made Wildfire's gut drop at the prospect of hurting the innocent kits inside, ignorant of what was happening, with the unfortunate chance of being pulled into this.
Another voice spoke, and a stockier looking Ashwing stepped forward. It gave pause to the animosity in Wildfire to see him - he knew Brightleap was a part of the siblings, and to have Brightleap with them whilst they had the intention of retaliating with fang and claw they would much rather avoid but would still most likely have to end up doing. It made the suspicion Wildfire had for the she-cat fade away in favour of wondering how she's taking this.
The growing pity was soon diminished once his attention was brought to Silversnow, however. It made Wildfire nearly spit in rage at her - he could not believe the audacity she had to be requesting such a thing. Did she not know she was a trespasser on their territory, as well as a rogue? Did she really think she would be allowed such a request, despite the situation they were in?
Wildfire looked at Maplestar. Anger was bubbling in his tummy, and he wished to step up and lash at Silversnow's ears for her character. She was trained as a deputy, and this is how she was acting? Rude. He kept his gaze switching from Silversnow to the rogues infront of them, watching Foxstar carefully. His taunting had planted a seed of annoyance in him, and Silversnow's actions only made it grow quickly. He would love nothing more than to do a good few blows to their faces.
He huffed in anger, but stood still, awaiting Maplestar's orders.
