Various herbs are strapped to her wings, and a tray is set aside for serving. "I admit," Kleo says to the audience, "I eat a lot of food raw. HOWEVER, I've been given some advice from some... allies. And a cookbook." A tome with a red flame is strapped to her side, reading 'Local Fauna of Ashfall Wastes'. [item=Singed Lemming][item=Cottontail Rabbit][item=Hooded Hen] She surveys the ingredients on the table in front of her for a moment. Some singed lemming lay on the counter, with deceased hooded hens and cottontail rabbits beside them. "I like meat and fish," says Kleo, "I admit, I don't have much of a knack of taste for that other stuff, like little squishy bugs or leaves or what have you. So, I will prepare a main dish and a... 'dish for dragons with different palates'. There's a lot of those little flittering fae in my clan so they gave me advice," she says. "Let's start with the main dish," she says, and without further ado she begins stripping the meat. It is not a neat process, and it does not entirely involve her claws. Parts of the rabbit and hen are gripped with her teeth and pulled off the carcasses, piled into the center of the counter. Her face and apron are spattered with red. She fashions the lemmings onto little skewers, and breathes hot flame over them. The singed lemmings become slightly charred lemmings. The chicken and rabbit likewise are cooked. At no point is any spice or herb added to these dishes. "THESE ITEMS ARE COOKED," says Kleo, passionately, and gesturing with an impressiveness towards them. "AND NOW, for the side dishes for those with 'different palates'." [item=Sunset Butterflyfish] "I like fish too, and FISH IS BEST RAW," announces Kleo. "NOW I've been advised that it is safest to 'freeze' the fish 'for everyone's safety' AND SO," Kleo produces onto the counter some slightly frozen sunset butterflyfish. Producing a small axe from her side, she deftly cuts through sections of the fish and plates them. "There MAY be some bone, HOWEVER bone is good for you." [item=Thistle][item=Honeybee] Lastly (and leastly), she pulls some of the sprigs from her wings, which appears to be thistle. "THIS IS FOR THE PLANT EATERS," and she places some dead honeybees on another plate, "THIS IS FOR THE BUG EATERS." She stares at both plates thoughtfully for a moment, and then blows some flame on them. The thistles ignite and are doused. "Perfect!" she says. [item=Strawberry][item=Wilting Rose] "I have also made some strawberry-wilting rose tea," she says, gesturing at a clear pot filled with hot water and herbs. Surprisingly, it looks palatable. "NOW, taste my delectable dishes," she says. She picks up the tray in her mouth and strides forth proudly, apron spattered from top to bottom in blood.

He actually has no idea how to cook, but figures it won’t be [i]too[/i] hard. He is already a master at fire magic, and cooking is just burning stuff until it’s tasty, right? He empties his satchel to show off his ingredients. [center] [item=Fire ant] [item=Fissure crawdad] [item=Tiger shrimp] [item=Redwing hopper] [/center] Amongst the menagerie of insects, he also takes out a variety of spices and curiously, honey. “As you can probably see, I am quite the fan of arthropods! I plan on making a dish with these delicious and scrumptious crustaceans and insects.” Without waiting for the audience’s response (which was split between excitement and horror anyway), he sets out to start boiling the crawdad and preparing the shrimp. Once this is done, the obelisk carefully dips each of the ants in honey before letting them roast by the fire. Finally, the Redwing hoppers. Tossing them into a pan, with various spices (such as garlic salt and chilli powder) and letting them fry in a liquid composed of vegetable oil and butter. The meal starts to come together: a giant crawdad at the heart of the plate, seasoned in probably too many spices; the crawdad is surrounded by various shrimp - glistening and peeled; the redwing hoppers have been drained from the liquid and overly seasoned, scattered around the plate; and on a side platter, roasted honey-dipped ants lay. Excess hoppers have been ground into dust and sprinkled over the entire meal. A lovely dish if you like insects and seafood. A horror show if not. Chimera smirks, clearly proud of the meal. Most would find it overbearing; it is stuffed with spices and seasoning. However, for Chimera the dish is perfect in every way. He gives a bow to the audience, and leaves to submit his meal to the judges. (I don’t eat much seafood, so my description of the meal may be completely inaccurate, try to overlook that!)

"I've never known myself to be much of a cook," says Nallyn, before she's even finished stepping onto the stage. "But there's one recipe that drove me to sign up for this whole thing. Circe's firelily tea."

She sets her supplies on the counter in the middle stage, which is by now covered in an assortment of unidentifiable singe marks and food scraps. "First, you start by heating the water. Simple enough." With the same palm-heating trick as yesterday, she cups an ornate metal teapot in her hands, this time stoking her forge with delicate care.

A minute or two passes before she's satisfied with the water's temperature. "Once that's done," she begins, setting down the pot, "you add the leaves. I have a pouch here, look." She rattles a small leather pouch on the counter. Without bothering with measuring cups, she opens the teapot and dumps a flurry of small, dried leaves into the strainer. It's impossible to tell if it's recklessness that makes her guess the amount, or if she's done it so many times she knows by sight when it's just right.

Speckled Fire Lily Sweet Grass

"The primary ingredient is speckled firelilies, of course. They give it a nice... plant-y?... overtone. Circe called it a 'delicate floral flavor.'" Her hands are back under the pot, keeping the water warm as it steeps. "Then there's sweetgrass. Bit hard to find in Ashfall, but it's a native plant out near the coasts. Makes it slightly sweet, so you never have to worry about putting in the wrong amount of sugar."

A faint, earthy aroma is beginning to rise from the stage. Nallyn busies herself with arranging teacups for herself and the judges, then fills each with the now-finished tea. Slyly, she looks up from the counter with another small pouch she's slipped out of her satchel.

Cindermint

"There's one final ingredient that the blend itself doesn't contain," she explains. She opens the pouch and carefully shakes a fine, powdery substance into each teacup, stirring it in until it all but disappears. "Powdered cindermint. Gives it just the right amount of kick to leave you warm and cozy. My personal secret ingredient." She winks.

With care, she lifts the tea tray and places a cup in front of each of the judges, keeping one for herself. She whispers a brief, "Enjoy," and sits off the side of the stage to finish her own cup.

Perfect roasted fireflies a la Melody."[/center]

However, I've always had a special place on my palate for my homeland's tastes. Today, I decided to go for a simple but effective spin on something traditional, taught to me by an old friend."

Firefly

"Fireflies! A personal favourite of mine."

Hegi arranges a large handful of fireflies on a metal grill, lighting the fire pit underneath with a quick burst of flame.

"Now, the best way to prepare these is still slow-roasting over an open fire. You'll want to keep them on the grill, turning them over at regular intervals, until around when the antennae start to curl. At that point, they'll have a nicely crispy outside, and an inside perfectly marinated without the moisture evaporating."

Ashfall Prickler

"While they roast, it's time to prepare the sauce!"

Hegi takes a bunch of small cacti, and starts breaking them open into a bowl. A viscous, yellowish-orange substance leaks out of a hollow in their insides.

"Of course, Ashfall Pricklers are renowned for their natural sauces, but everything can be improved upon!"

Potash Peach

She peels a gap open in a peach's flesh with a claw, and squeezes out a bright red liquid.

"Mix in a dash of Potash Peach juice, and the spices are both complimented and balanced out nicely. I'm using fully mature peaches, for a sweet style, but immature peaches will work just as nicely if you prefer something sour."

When the fireflies finish cooking, Hegi arranges them artistically on a platter, and douses them carefully with the sauce.

"You'll want to leave these for a while, about five to ten minutes – they're better once they've cooled and soaked a little. While you wait, you can prepare a side dish."

Cindershroom

She tosses some mushrooms on the grill, and starts dicing them.

"I personally like Cindershrooms with this dish. The texture pairs nicely with the fireflies. If you're a meat-eater, you might want to try some mouse cuts, and for the seafood enthusiasts, leech segments make for a surprisingly nice side. Be creative!"

The mushroom pieces are arranged between the fireflies on the platter, in a pleasing spiral pattern. Hegi starts to hand it around to the judges.
