"Pink is definitely my color!"
Marcie beamed as she saw her reflection in the blades of her skates. She was ready. That morning the sunrise had turned the snow pink with its glow and she took that as a sign that it was her day. Many of her friends were there to cheer her on wearing pink in her honor.
"Let's do this!" She beamed.

"Wait...[i]speed[/i] skating?" Pitch asked, her usualy calm and cheerful demeanor exchanged for one of borderline panic. "When I volunteered to sign up for skating...I thought it was a figure skating contest!"
Her mate, Yasemin, gave one of her shoulders a reassuring nuzzle as the other dragons in Pitch's heat started to make their way out to the starting point on the ice, "You'll be fine," she tried to reassure her, "Agility is still needed in this event and you are by far one of the best in the clan for that. Not to mention one of the few who adjusted to skates so well," she chuckled.
The pearlcatcher didn't seem to be reassured by her words, but she still took a breath, made sure her pearl was securely snug in it's sling for this particular event, and made her way to the starting line.

Alex approaches the desk, "Um, hi, I would like to register for speed skating please".
A snowy white Tundra looks down at him. The dragon then lowers himself to look directly into the eyes of Alex, Alex moves his head back as the dragon stares closely at him. Alex gulps.
"Have some determination, faith in yourself. Here, take this" The Tundra gives Alex a orange pendant and wraps it around Alex's neck for him.
"It gave me good luck when I was still competing in the games. Luge was my sport, but I bet it will give you the same great luck that I had" the tundra says smiling.
"Here is your ticket, enjoy yourself on the rink, move fast, and always look ahead" The tundra says handing Alex the ticket.
"Thank you' Alex says with a smile on his face.

Alex takes his skates, looks up to the speed skating rink, and flies off.

Harley's turn was up for Curling, and he was nervous. He didn't play as well as he usually did and his opponents seemed much better by a longshot. He chewed at his lip as the last few competitors went, scoring rather high and making a bolt of panic shock Harley into a tense leap. His eyes searched the crowds to find his clan, and when he made eye contact with them, they gave him big smiles.
Maybe he didn't do so bad after all?

After getting in a stable position, where he worriedly skated in circles, he started to wonder if this was a really good idea. [i]I'm not sure if I'll win, but I'll try my best..[/i] He had little experience with the sport, and unlike the others who were participating, he was nervous. Very nervous.
He skated circles in the snow once more, to at least get some more practice before he was called up.

Glisten quivered in fear as he stood at the top of the slope for the ski jumping competition. [i]How[/i] had his clanmates talked him into doing this event? Why didn't he just sign up for figure skating instead? That sounded much safer. It was dancing on ice, you couldn't fall to your death with long awkward sticks attached to your feet that weighed you down too much to fly properly dancing on ice. And it was so [i]pretty[/i] to watch.
He peered over the snowy edge and quickly jerked his head back, immediately regretting peeking. Maybe if he just thought of it as diving into the water, he liked diving into the water, and snow was basically the same as water, it'd be fine, it was... not even remotely similar. He shuddered. If he lived through this, he was never doing anything like it again.

Much as he didn't like using rented skis it would be pointless to buy himself some only to stick them into storage for a year. Drowning out the duo still snipping at each other he prepared for the last day of competition.

Ahem - according to the official numbers, more competitors have arrived from out of flight to compete. We're thrilled to have so many returning clans. As of today, speed skating is still the most popular event to enter, with Luge slightly edging out the rest of the events.

I expect that by the end, we'll have an even number of participants in each event, but you never know! Popular events will likely be brought back next year... but as these are all new and still being tested, there's always the possibility of being cut from next year's schedule.

Well, it IS pretty costly to maintain the infrastructure for so many different events. I suppose it will depend how popular the games get and how many dragons enter. Our clan leaders will just have to make that decision before next year's Gala.

Reaper carefully weighed the curling stone in his claws, testing the weight of it. Yes, this was the one. It should travel smoothly down the ice. Reaper has a scientific mind and had carefully studied each of the stones provided for those competing in the curling event, looking for the best one. Approaching the starting line, Reaper pauses and then smoothly releases his stone. It glides across the ice before slowly coming to a halt. Nodding to himself, Reaper steps away from the course. Hopefully, that should be enough for a high score.
