Starting on January 1, 2024, I'll be playing (almost) as though I'm a new player. All my old dragons, items, and currency will be stashed away, I'll have moved to a new flight, and all I'll have to work with will be two freshly hatched new "progenitors."

A New Year, New Player challenge personal thread
Starting on January 1, 2024, I'll be playing (almost) as though I'm a new player. All my old dragons, items, and currency will be stashed away, I'll have moved to a new flight, and all I'll have to work with will be two freshly hatched new "progenitors."
Rules
I am pulling the rules mostly from
SCB's challenge hub thread, with some modifications.
- Before the challenge begins, all old dragons, items, and currency go into storage and become effectively off-limits. Blank out vista, avatar, etc. Change flights if desired (I'm going to Plague). Exception: My lair will have one off-limits tab to keep some long-term dragons listed on AH.
- Set food stocks to zero or fill them to a certain point and call that effectively zero. I'll be using 3,500 as my "zero."
- Obtain a male/female pair of G1 "progenitors" with the correct element. Use Scrolls of Maturity if needed to have adult progenitors on day one. I will be hatching two Unhatched Plague Eggs on January 1. If I don't get a male/female pair, I will buy a 1/1/24 hatchdate G1 off AH with vault funds, then move one of the extras to the den.
- I start with 10 lair slots, 2 lair tabs, 5 hibernal den slots, 1 hibernal den slot, 2 nests, and 6 apparel slots, just as a new player does.
- To unlock slots, I pay the usual amount into my vault. Hibernal den slots will all be 50g each, as trying to redo the item tasks isn't something I'm interested in doing.
- I may choose to buy dragons out of my storage for 200g, with limits. This is mostly so I can continue breeding projects with Plague eyes if I want or have certain old dragons be part of the new lair for funsies. I cannot use this to buy back my Mire Flyer or any other sort of utility dragon.
- All dragons I want to keep in my lair (i.e., not fodder) must be completed before I add another dragon to the lair. "Completed" means they have a name, final breed/genes, a named familiar, some sort of description/lore,
art, and whatever apparel/skin/accent/scene I might want to give them. Exception: I can get a third dragon early to complete a coliseum team.
- Any familiars I already own but want to attach to dragons as a perma-familiar must be bought out of storage for LAH. I'm not going to track much else about familiars, as I have a hard enough time bothering to bond with them already.
- I can also buy other items from myself that would be a waste of currency to buy new copies of, such as UMAs, vistas, etc.
- I will not be attempting to simulate re-leveling Baldwin or Arlo. However, I'll limit myself to using Baldwin only for melting for the first week. Also, as no new player would be able to get a gene out of Arlo for at least a week, I won't be able to sell anything from Arlo for the first week either.

Progenitors... That is what they are—he and his fae companion. It is a strange thing to be: a direct manifestation of his deity's power, sent out into the world to found a clan and bolster the Plaguebringer's influence. The dragons in the trading posts and markets he and his partner have passed through seem to sense it on them, regarding them with a wary awe.

They are right to be wary. The Plaguebringer's virulent hunger for conquest and expansion burns like a fever within these two. From the decay of this place, their clan will rise.

Viricota and Ribori, progenitors of an as-yet-unnamed clan of the Plague flight, have established a modest foothold in the Wandering Contagion.

They found their first recruit not long after: a wandering nocturne who offered his allegiance in return for food and aid. The nocturne was too sick to serve the Plaguebringer properly, but he could handle hunting and clashes with beastfolk well enough.

Viricota and Ribori soon set to the task of seeking out further recruits—in particular those eager to serve among the Plaguebringer's ranks. They offered lodging and instruction in combat, and before long, several dragons had filtered through the clan and gone off to serve the rotten deity.

“Strain Starter,” whisper the dragons of Plague. “Clan Seed,” whisper those of Nature.
They are right to be wary. The Plaguebringer's virulent hunger for conquest and expansion burns like a fever within these two. From the decay of this place, their clan will rise.
Viricota and
Ribori, progenitors of an as-yet-unnamed clan of the Plague flight, have established a modest foothold in the Wandering Contagion.
They found their first recruit not long after: a wandering nocturne who offered his allegiance in return for food and aid. The nocturne was too sick to serve the Plaguebringer properly, but he could handle hunting and clashes with beastfolk well enough.

Typhus, Reborn
Whatever illness Typhus had been suffering from became more aggressive, leaving Viricota and Ribori to fend off threats and seek plunder and supplies without him. This was no great hardship. The pair fought well together, and the less-experienced warriors they took into combat with them in preparation for exaltation faced higher levels of threat—a good thing, in Viricota's opinion. Only the strongest are fit to serve the Plaguebringer, after all.
As the days went on and Typhus's condition only worsened, Viricota and Ribori differed on what to do with him. Viricota saw Typhus's drain on the food stores and lack of contribution, and he wanted to leave the nocturne to his fate in the wastes. Ribori saw things differently.
Ribori saw the ways that veins and cysts spread across Typhus's form, almost as though he was becoming something else. She convinced Viricota that this disease must be allowed to run its course. She isolated Typhus in one of the enclosed dens of the clan's fledgling lair and tended to him using herbs and materials retrieved from the clan's pillaging.
A week later—after extensive warmongering and support of the Plaguebringer's forces as they made a push for dominance of Sornieth and won it, at least temporarily—Ribori emerged from the den, followed by something that was certainly not a nocturne.
“The Plaguebringer is pleased with our devotion!” Ribori declared, little hands held aloft as she fluttered above the transformed Typhus, presenting him to Viricota and a gathering of their transient clanmates. “And she has blessed us!”

Day 2–3

Daily G&G is a given. Crim and Higher or Lower when I remember. Pursuing pursuits the most I ever have, and getting a bit of treasure and gems from some achievements I hadn't bothered to get before.

Still melting apparel at Baldwin's from here through day 8.

Some extra income from familiar bonding (and the chests rewarded for that).

I happened to join Plague the week of a conquest push, which was super engaging for me, especially with how many programs Plague has running to encourage participation. Motivated by stamp collecting, I got through 30 level 5 dragons by the end of day 3.

Saving up for an Eliminate.

When I started this challenge in hopes of getting myself to do art, I didn't foresee "Elmo fire meme but Viricota." But here we are.
Day 5–6

Saw the announcement about new scenes and such, and churned through fodder in Redrock Cove to try to get some of the new scenes. Got two to drop (along with a Deeprealm Hunter). Sold them all for around 750kt total value.

Total exalted for Plague's push was 45 level 5s and 15 level 6s. Was able to claim both push-exclusive stamps for 300 exalted levels.

Spent an hour and a half on day 5 (I think) listing little things with usage in site features on AH. Only got through the food tab. Did not manage to do this again any other day in this update.
Day 7

Leveled out of being able to grind fodder in Redrock Cove. RIP.

Grinding in Crystal Pools now, since there's some high-value stuff in there too. Got the vista drop, worth around 120kt (if it ever sells).

Sold all the hatchlings from my temporary fodder breeders for 50g total, exalted the breeders, got a new set of RTB dragons to restart the cycle.

Plague has dominance, which is huge since I want to gene my dragons ASAP.
Day 8

Typhus has his breed/genes finalized and a skin too!

Viricota has his secondary gene. Ribori has secondary and tertiary. I don't plan to breed-change them. Still need their primaries. Undecided whether Viri's tert is staying basic.

Not a lot of progress other than dailies, mostly because I wanted to finish the day 4 meme art and update this thread.

Profits off listing little things for hibden, Swipp, or Baldwin are just over 300kt value since I started on 1/1. The stuff sells, but man, it's such a chore to list it.
Current funds: 160,723t || 87g
(After spending 607,750 on genes, ~233kt on an Eliminate, ~100kt on Viri and Ribori's scenes and apparel, 109g on Typhus's scene and skin, and 155g on another G1 I just couldn't resist.)
