Mato would definitely be much happier back with Drew!
Yeah, I've been pretty busy with work this weekend so I haven't had time to do bios. I've been prioritizing getting at least a chapter done a day so I don't fall behind on pulls! But I have a couple of days off now. I have to do some prep today for a dnd campaign I am starting tomorrow, but if I have enough time after that and writing a chapter for today, then I am going to at least get a start! I got a lot of gift dragons in a very short span, which I am very grateful for and excited about, but it made it so I could not stay on top of getting their lore done as easily as I normally do with gift dragons! So soon your check-ins will have some new results!

Oh good luck on the DnD prep! And hopefully things are going well on your end, too.

"Parry! Block! Parry!" Hansel shouted. "Okay, stop, that's enough for today."
"Aw, really?" Izel huffed. "But we were just getting started!"
"You're bruised up and out of breath," Hansel pointed out. "Your progress will only go downhill from here if we keep going. You need to rest, allow your muscles to mend and strengthen. That's how you will get stronger."
Hansel had been concerned that his son, with all his flamboyance and care he put into his appearance, to be much of a fighter. Not that it would have been a problem in any other clan, but with the Challenge of Lightning on the horizon, he wanted to be sure that Izel could hold his own and survive. Izel had taken to training like a fish to the water. It turns out, the guardian's desire to win, or more specifically, a refusal to lose, motivated Izel far beyond Hansel's own energy level.
"Come on, I'll make you your favourite for dinner. You did well," Hansel said, nudging his son. He was growing fast. It would not be long until he was bigger than him.
"Do you have any more of the rainbow sprinkles? Those make the food taste best!" Izel exclaimed, bouncing along as the two made their way back to the camp.
"We have enough left for one more meal, but then I'm going to have to place an order in with your Uncle Valoo for the next time he comes to make a delivery." Hansel explained.
"Well, you better stock up on a lot!" Izel grinned widely.
By the time they arrived back at the camp, Cure was waiting for them. The snapper had already gotten the fire going. Izel squealed and raced over to tackle the snapper into a hug.

"How did your training session go?" Cure asked.
"It ended too soon!" Izel huffed. "But it's good. I'm getting stronger! I'm not going to lose the challenge, that's for sure!"
"I wish I could have joined you, but I am still too worn out from yesterday," Cure said, sounding a little disappointed.
The two continued to talk as Hansel began to tend to the fire, making sure that it would burn down to the perfect cooking embers. It was sweet, the bond that had formed between the two of them, especially given Izel's namesake. It had seemed all too fitting once Izel discovered that she was his charge.
Hansel's only wish was that Hime was around more for Izel. Their son certainly didn't need it anymore, he was not a child anymore, but as the guardian had gotten older, Hime had once again spent more and more time around Shui, and given all that Drew had been sharing about him, he was certain it would only end in disaster.

Drew had not gone looking for Mato, they knew exactly where they were. And they knew just how impossible it would be to get them out of his grasp. Especially with Glacier lurking around.
However, that did not stop Drew from watching from a distance when they encountered the pair of them training on their hunts.

"No, try again," Glacier snapped as one of her blows sent the young wildclaw sprawling off their feet. "You're pathetic, you'll never make a good warrior, you'll always be a disappointment to your father."
"That's what I keep telling you!" Mato said through gritted teeth. Drew could tell that they were on the edge of tears.
"Stop complaining, we will go until you get this right! It doesn't matter if it takes all night!" Glacier snarled, yanking Mato up by sinking her teeth into their shoulder and shoving them to their feet.
Drew winced. This was not the life Mato should be living. They would have to find a way to break them free. It would take careful planning, after all, it wasn't as if Drew could take Mato far away. They were limited by the challenges.
Except, Mato had never participated in a challenge. They still had the freedom to go. It would hurt, being separated from their child, but if it meant that Mato no longer had to put up with this cruelty, it was a sacrifice Drew was willing to make.
After all, Drew had been through far, far worse.

I always knew Drew would never stick with Shui forever. They were codependant and that made them easy to manipulate, but when it came down to it, their heart wasn't fully in the whole thing. Glacier, on the other hand...

Cure being Izel's charge is super sweet! I look forward to see where it takes the two. And poor Mato... makes me wish there was someone to put Glacier in her place (or at least be formidable enough that Glacier turns down if challenged by them).
