After all, with the close alliances some local clans have with some local flocks, dragons will invite close companions along to enjoy the fun. However this year there is definitely a notable increase in feathered wings fluttering every which way, and it's not because of an influx of coatl or skydancer hatchlings in the region (however there is a debate going on trying to determine if there was an increase or decrease of masks, given last year's theme). Compote sighs, rubbing his temples. He'd been quite eager at the idea of inviting some harpies onto the judging panel for Mistral Meals this year, but he hadn't anticipated needing to potentially babysit for them as well. "Don't you want to...I don't know...explore the fairgrounds or something? I know I'm not the only dragon who's bad with Beastclan ages, but you seem old enough to not been to be supervised by your parents..." He trailed off, remembering the disaster he found with the ice cream maker just yesterday. The two look at each other. "We don't know many dragons," Nyna admits, sheepishly, "I mean of course we can fly above them but when we're down on the ground there's just so many..." "What my friend means is that we don't want to get stepped on." Souffle interjects, and the other looks flustered at the blunt admission." Compote is taken by surprise by this factor at first (having grown up in a clan with dragons of all sorts and sizes, he learned at a young age how to avoid such dilemmas), but then an idea occurs to him and he grins. This challenge is for all users out there who enjoy food and cooking, whether they have real life skills in the kitchen or not! Please note that this event has two different components and [b]you [u]must sign-up to participate in the Cooking Challenge portion of the event[/u]![/b] More specific details for each section will be outlined in the rules below. [LIST=1] [*][b]The Cooking Contest[/b] will consist of 3 rounds of cooking role-play over the course of the Jamboree week, and will require contestants to sign up between March 19th-25th. Each round will be 2 days long, and will require contestants to include specified challenge ingredients. Deciding who moves onto the next round will be determined by [s]an unnamed panel of judges[/s] RNG, and there are badges and a grand prize up for grabs! [*][b]The Daily Activities[/b] will be open to anyone and will count as the entries for tickets for the raffle prizes as well as earning a small daily prize. These will not necessarily be cooking related prompts, and the more you participate the higher your odds of winning a raffle prize! [/LIST] [b]Note regarding event updates[/b]: Daily updates will occur soon after 5:00FRT, so you have until then to post Activity entries, but only until 4:30FRT for the Challenge ones. Unfortunately for the Cooking Challenge I cannot be lenient with late entries due to the tournament format, but Daily Activity entries will be accepted up until 30 minutes after my update post (based on timestamps) to accomodate anyone in the middle of writing theirs last minute. You will still win any consolation prizes, if applicable to the round. [*]While you are not limited to using the same dragon for all three challenges, you must still submit one on the signup form to be the "team representative." [*]You are only required to use [b]three[/b] of the challenge ingredients. Beyond that you are allowed and encouraged to use other ingredients (whether they exist as in-game items or not). Assume that every potential ingredient and/or cooking device is available for your dragons to use (if you want to use something that seems too high tech for Flight Rising, just presume Lightning provided it). [*]Entries are encouraged to be written as role-play, but I'll also accept recipe format, just so long as it is written in-character/associated with one of your dragons. [*]Technically there is no word length minimum or maximum. Write whatever is most comfortable for you, so long as the ingredient requirement is met. Sure, seven was around the same ballpark of contestants as the past two years for the final round, but the stone slab workspace seemed emptier than usual. But thus was the nature of the game, and he had to progress accordingly. “Congrats to all of you for making it to the final round!” he announces once the day is ready to begin, “You’ve pitted yourself against some other amazing chefs, but you’re still the ones here at the end of the day. Startled, they both look up to see a brown, delighted looking tundra, while a more orangy-colored one stands a bit further behind him, looking exasperated. "I'm Ursus, so I guess you've completed your dragon bingo," the first one says, handing the parchment back to Souffle, "I caught wind that Compote had sent some kids off on a scavenger hunt and it sounded fun. Been trying to track you down all week!" "Dad..." the other tundra speaks up from the back, but Ursus gives him a 'just-one-moment' sort of wave you'd typicaly give an impatient hatchling rather than a fully grown adult dragon. "So, since I can't give you any 'helpful advice' on finding and interacting with my co-workers, do you want a prize instead?" Ursus asks with a grin and a raised eyebrow. Souffle and Nyna eagerly nod their heads, and after Ursus asks them to hold out their hands they look down eagerly... [center][item=Gravel][/center] "Th....thank you?" Nyna says, clearly confused while the less subtle Souffle more bluntly exclaims, "You're giving us dirt??" "Seriously, Dad, knock it off," the other tundra says, this time coming over to give his father a light shove. "Sorry. Couldn't resist! There's been this weird influx of gravel around the fairgrounds today and I scooped some of it up on a whim. Thought it might come in handy for a joke at some point." While Ursus is a prankster, he's not totaly heartless, and seeing the disapointed looks on the harpie's faces, continues on, "By the way, this is my son, Honeycomb," the other tundra gives a nod of greeting as he's introduced, "We were just on our way to check out a geneology booth some harpies we know set up. I guess when you consider all of your kind to be one giant family, you keep some pretty impeccable records." "I've been curious to do some digging into my own family tree, since my mother was one of the wanderer's that come and go through our clan," Honeycomb explained, "I've just been at a loss of where to start, and thought I could get some ideas there." "That sounds....fun..." Nyna and Souffle said in a tone of voice that sounded very much like it was NOT their idea of fun. "Don't worry! I wasn't going to drag you with us," Ursus quickly interjects, "but if you want to walk with us for a bit, I could treat you to something a lot more interesting than a paw full of gravel for your prize." Now THIS the harpies looked much more eager to take up the offer. Is your dragon a G1 with no kids? No problem! She enjoyed participating in the cooking contest year after year - this would be, what, her sixth or seventh time? - it had been a while since she was forced to use certain ingredients instead of grabbing whatever she wanted from her clan's hoard. To warm up for Mistral Meals, she decided to practice with the extra ingredients available right now. She didn't try to do anything fancy - this was just a warm-up, not a meal that would actually be judged. She chopped up the [b]Stinglash, Cave Gecko,[/b] and [b]Clown Shrimp[/b] and used them to make a hearty, spicy, gumbo that would provide welcome warmth in the chilly windy weather. She scooped the gumbo into bowls, then placed a couple [b]Black Tulip[/b] petals on top - not only would the dark petals provide a colorful garnish, their sweet and starchy flavor would balance out the spices.
