The clearing has been set up haphazardly. Twigs and clumps of weeds have been arranged into a nest or two, with soft toys strewn around between them. An attempt has been made to stitch huge leaves into a cover from the sky, but the stitches have started to unravel already, allowing cold winter sun to trickle in and dapple the ground.
“This is very short notice! All the hatchlings’ parents are off to celebrate the Night of the Nocturne, and my daycare usually only runs during the [i]day[/i]... I need to prepare for them to sleep here! Will you help me?”

Would you mind gathering these ingredients for me?”

Thank you for collecting his snacks.” She moved over, tucking him more comfortably into his nest. “I’ve found hatchlings respond well to bedtime stories at night. Would you mind gathering some up for them?”

He makes a trilling noise, snuggling against it and falling straight back to sleep. “Good! You’ll be fetching a fancy dinner tonight - their parents are stopping by to have a feast with the little ones. You can’t celebrate Night of the Nocturne without a good feast!”
She paused, giving you a searching look. “All the parents will be here except for James’, poor little tyke. He’s taken a liking to you - how would you like to join as his guest for the evening?”

“Today is a few clear-up tasks, a couple of nonessentials that’ll make things absolutely perfect. You’ve been such a huge help this week, I don’t know what I’d have done without you. Make sure you go and enjoy Night of the Nocturne for yourself, as well!”
