"What could be better than a good old-fashioned game of Capture the Flag?"
________ Thunder Hollow is on the brink of chaos. With necessary renovations being jeopardized by the clan's democratic practices, the Council struggles for a way to convince wary shopkeepers to abandon their trades for long enough to outfit the Public Sector with the proper preparations for the upcoming year's predicted monsoon season.

When one dragon suggests starting a clan-wide game to keep everyone happy and occupied for the duration of the reassembly, the weary Councilors can't help but agree wholeheartedly.

Thus, the first (and last) annual Thunder Hollow Ultimate Capture the Flag Competition came underway. With a little for everyone to enjoy, it's likely to provide an optimal distraction until the Public Sector is ready to be opened up again. Who would have thought such a simple solution could be the proper one?

Regardless of any additional theme rules in affect, combat occurs daily "between" the teams, via the coliseum. At the start of each "day", flip a coin to determine which faction goes first. That faction is referred to as the active faction. The other side is the opposing faction. Once the active faction is determined, randomize a list of dragons within that faction. Do this three times. Those three dragons will enter the coliseum together at the venue appropriate for the highest-leveled dragon. If there is a gap of more than 5 levels between any dragons in the team, re-roll the weakest member(s), if there are stronger ones available, or the strongest member(s) if there are no stronger ones available. Before you enter the coliseum, use a number randomizer, set from ten to thirty, to determine the number of rounds being fought by that faction on that day. Fight the rounds and make note of any interesting drops, as they may have relevance. You may not flee in the midst of these battles, but you may heal as often as you like if the faction possesses potions or battle-stones that would grant this affect. On the "battle end" screen, you are free to refresh and heal your dragons. Keep track of the battles wherein dragons faint as well. Fainted dragons must be switched out unless they have at least one extra pennant/life available. Once the battles for one faction are complete, do the same number of battles using random dragons from the other faction using the same rules. Make note of any item drops and fainting. Once all battles have been done, resolve any item-drop affects (see "coliseum drops & bonus affects") before proceeding on to the record of fainting. If any dragon faints during battle, this leaves a potential for their opponents to take a flag. On any numbered battle, as it is completed by both factions, if a dragon faints on one side but not on the other, the fainted dragon loses one of their personal flags (pennants) to the other side. If dragons fainted on both sides during the same numbered match, the side with more unfainted dragons will remove flags from all fainted dragons on the other side. If the same number of dragons faint, or if no dragons faint at all during a numbered round, no flags are taken. - Flags and Elimination Rules - The true currency of the game lies in flags, of which there are two types by default: pennants and standards. Pennants are the personal flags held by each dragon. They represent that dragon's "hp". A dragon's pennants match their element and contribute to elemental tallies when stolen (see tally section) Standards are the team's primary flags. Each team will start with one. They are the primary goal of combat and are very precious to the vitality of each team! Pennants are easily captured by the means listed above in the combat section. If a dragon loses all of their pennants, they are eliminated from their team unless certain rules/items apply to them at the time where they lose their pennant(s). Pennants can be of twelve colors, one for each flight + the beastclans, and they count towards both points and tallies (see below sections). Standards are much harder to capture, as they are more heavily guarded. There are several methods through which they may be taken, however. Some rare coliseum items may allow for the capture of a standard, as is seen in other sections. If a team manages to capture three pennants in a single day's worth of battles, the option to steal the standard of their opponents arises. The team captain must complete ten consecutive battles in the venue one step below their level without fainting in order to keep their standard. Otherwise, the standard is lost. A standard can also be taken from a team captain if it is the only flag they possess (having lost all of their pennants). Once the standard is captured, it must be assigned a guardian dragon to watch over it. The standard will function as one of their flags from that point onwards. The assigning of the standard is random unless it was won in battle, in which case a random dragon from the coliseum team is selected rather than out of the faction as a whole. This standard guardian is now twice as likely to be selected for battle (enter their name twice in the list randomizer). If a team loses its standard, morale drops and things become a lot more dangerous. All coliseum team composition rules are cast out, making for wildly varied levels of team members. Dragons of the affected team cannot leave battle, even at the end-screen, until fifteen battles have elapsed. Healing is still permitted. In order for a team to recapture their standard, they must recapture it from its new guardian. Any time the guardian is involved in coliseum battles, the standard may be retaken. If the guardian faints while opponents on the other team still stand, the standard is regained. If the guardian does not faint, a one-on-one battle commences after the day's allotted coliseum battles, between the guardian and one of the opposing team members. Both dragons enter the coliseum level that fits them and fight until they faint. If the guardian faints, the standard is recovered alongside one pennant. If the opponent faints, they lose two pennants. The opposing dragon cannot be of levels 1-3. On the event that a Captain loses all of their pennants AND the standard, that Captain is eliminated from the competition and a new dragon must step up to take their place. The dragon in the faction with the highest remaining pennant count must assume the role of Captain. If they can successfully aid in recovering the standard, the faction resumes function as normal, just with a new captain.

Each faction has a base which contains all of the interesting amass during the game, as well as the currency they possess. Any items inside a faction's hoard may be used by that faction and only that faction. Factions cannot take from one another's hoards unless certain rare drops come into affect. The primary sections of each faction's hoard are as follows: - Currency - Any coinage that comes from chests/battles/sales etc. contributes to a faction's monetary hoard. This money can be used in specific ways to purchase new items for use by the faction, or to buy Points which can affect the game on a larger scale. - Battle Stones - Any battle stones obtained by a faction contribute both to the hoard and to a specific tally system (see below). A faction can only use battle stones that they possess, purchase, or steal. - Chests & Loot Crates - Chests and loot crates lend finances and items, respectively, for a faction to use. When certain theme rules are in affect, they may bear more use. - Potions - Potions, the primary means of healing during battle, are another essential part of a faction's hoard. They may only use potions as they come to possess them. - Item Stock - Keep track of all rare drops, theme rule important drops, ect. in an extra section of the faction's hoard, even if the purpose of the item has already been accomplished. Only remove them if they are considered "used up", like a piece of apparel being equipped to a dragon or a familiar being taken into a dragon's care. - Familiars - Any familiars possessed by a faction must be noted in the hoard as well, alongside the dragon that is caring for them.
------- ------- [columns][nextcol]» Like the Rules? « Text Text Text - Link -[nextcol][/columns] ----------- -----------

All lost pennants are safely transferred to the opposing team, including half-pennants. If the poisoned dragon is the captain, and the captain has lost all their pennants, they may lose the standard in this way. [i]Due to the power of this affect, there IS a cure for Natural Venom. ___ The rules and regulations that all contestants must follow if they wish to play the game. Modified from Dreamnorn's Tooth vs. Nail Challenge and Tar's Pinkerlocke Challenge

» Tally System wrote:
The tally system relates to certain item drops and creates specific affects that can be both negative and positive for the faction that summons them.

As a general rule, each tally category has twenty slots that must be filled for an affect to come into play. Once the twentieth tally is made, the relevant affect comes into play the next day of the game and lasts until the week of dominance is complete. Any tallies obtained beyond twenty before the affect is established will be considered excess and will not have relevance.

As a rule, there are four items in particular that make for tallies, all obtained in or through the coliseum:
 • Captured Pennants: 1 tally
 • Acuity and Might Fragments/Found Runestones: 1 tally
 • Bolt or Slash Stones: 2 tallies
 • Advanced Mage Stones 3 tallies

Enfeeble
- Arcane Enfeeblement -
When the Arcane tallies are maxed out, the opposing faction is affected by Arcane Enfeeblement. All dragons in that faction are bound by the Arcane Rune and coliseum teams are relegated to two dragons at maximum. Normal coliseum rules still apply, including any additional ones brought on by loss of the standard ect.
Fossilize
- Earthly Fossilization -
When the Earth tallies are maxed out, the opposing faction is affected by Earthly Fossilization. Randomize three dragons from the opposing faction. These dragons are bound by the Earth Rune to freeze in place, rendering them incapable of completing coliseum battles. Fossilized dragons are especially vulnerable in this state, and any time they are randomized to enter the coliseum, they lose one pennant. If the three dragons affected are the last ones still in the faction, their faction immediately loses.
Sear
- Fiery Sear -
When the Fire tallies are maxed out, the opposing faction is affected by Fiery Sear. Randomly select one dragon from the opposing faction. This dragon is bound by the Fire Rune. This dragon becomes passionate about fighting in the coliseum, tripling their chances to join a daily team (put their name on the randomizer three times). However, when they participate in the coliseum, any rare items they find may be burned up. The first item is guaranteed to burn up, and flip a coin for any others past that, with heads causing the item to burn. Any time this dragon loses a pennant, it goes up in a blaze of flame and has a 50% (coin flip, heads) chance of burning another pennant down with it. These burnt pennants are transferred safely to the opposing team.
Congeal
- Icy Congealment -
When Ice tallies are maxed out, the opposing faction is affected by Icy Congealment. Randomly select one dragon from the opposing faction. This dragon is bound by the Ice Rune and becomes cold towards their own faction. Their chance to enter the coliseum triples, and, should they faint in battle, they will abandon their current faction in favor of the active faction. Once the dragon leaves, flip a coin. If the coin lands on heads the effect transfers on to another randomly decided dragon in the opposing faction. This can happen up to seven times, once daily, for the duration of a period of Dominance.
Enamor
- Light Enamorment -
When Light tallies are maxed out, the opposing faction is affected by Light Enamorment. Randomize one dragon from the opposing faction. This dragon is bound by the Light Rune and become enamored with the values of the active faction. Each morning, they struggle with this new knowledge and creep off during the day to discover more about the active faction. Flip a coin each morning. If heads, flip again. If heads a second time, the enamored dragon joins the active faction. Once the affected dragon joins the active faction, randomize a list of opposing dragons again and transfer the affect until the next period of Dominance.
Shock
- Lightning Shock -
When Lightning tallies are maxed out, the opposing faction is affected by Lightning Shock. Randomize one dragon from the opposing faction.
This dragon is bound by the Lightning Rune. Every day this effect is in affect, randomize a number from 1 to 10. On a roll of ten, lightning strikes and the afflicted dragon loses three pennants.

Envenom
- Natural Venom -
When Nature tallies are maxed out, the active faction is affected by Natural Venom. Randomly select one dragon from the active faction. This dragon is bound by the Nature Rune and, for the next period of Dominance, obtains a special sort of venom. They make use of this by “defecting” to the opposing faction and doing their best to “help”. They function, by all counts, as a member of the opposing faction for the duration of the affect. After each day’s work is done, roll a dice for the “defector”. If the result is six, they are able to creep up and poison a random dragon on the opposing team. Flip a coin following the poisoning. If the result is heads, the “defector” is found out for their acts and run out of the faction. If the result is tails they are able to keep up their charade. For poisoned dragons, flip a coin every morning. On a result of heads, they lose a whole pennant. On a result of tails, they lose half a pennant. All lost pennants are safely transferred to the opposing team, including half-pennants. If the poisoned dragon is the captain, and the captain has lost all their pennants, they may lose the standard in this way.

Due to the power of this affect, there IS a cure for Natural Venom. An envenomated dragon may be cured with a combination of a Major Healing Potion and an Aid Battle-Stone. This cure consumes both items. Cures can only be administered after an affect has been applied at least once.

Contaminate
- Plague Contamination -
When Plague tallies are maxed out, the opposing faction is affected by Plague Contamination. Randomly select one dragon from the opposing faction. This dragon is bound by the Plague Rune and becomes infected with a strange form of virus. Each day that the dragon is affected, generate a number from 1 to 100. On a 1, the dragon instantly loses all remaining pennants and is eliminated from the competition. On 2 to 40, nothing happens. On 41-60, the dragon loses a single pennant. On 61-80, the dragon loses 2 pennants. On 81-99, the disease is transmitted to a random dragon in the faction. On 100, the disease is transmitted randomly and the original carrier loses all remaining pennants. The daily roll must be made for any infected dragons.

Due to the power of this affect, there IS a cure for Plague Contamination. A contaminated dragon may be cured with a combination of a Major Healing Potion and a Regenerate Battle-Stone. This cure consumes both items. Cures can only be administered after an affect has been applied at least once.

Shroud
- Shadow Shroud -
When Shadow tallies are maxed out, the active faction is affected by Shadow Shroud. Randomize one dragon from the active faction. This dragon is bound by the Shadow Rune and becomes like a wraith, able to slip about with great ease and stealth. Each day, the dragon has an opportunity to steal something from the opposing team. Randomly generate a number from one to one-hundred. On 1-50, take one item of your choice from the opposing faction as they win it in the coliseum. On 51-70, do not take anything. On 71-90, take an item of your choice from the opposing faction's hoard (roll a dice and multiply the result by a thousand to determine the max number of currency if you so desire it). On 91-100, take one pennant from a random opposing dragon. Any stolen items may take new affect for the active faction and elemental items/pennants still contribute to tallies.
Drown
- Watery Drowning -
When Water tallies are maxed out, the opposing faction is affected by Watery Drowning. Randomize one dragon daily. This dragon is temporarily bound by the Water Rune. Flip a coin for them. On a heads, they one pennant in an accident of some kind, typically involving water. After the coliseum rounds are done for the day, the two factions may fight over the pennant, each side rolling one six-sided dice. The team with the higher number wins the pennant. If the active faction secures the pennant, the dragon who lost it is eliminated if it was their last pennant. If the opposing faction regains the pennant, the dragon that lost it is not eliminated even if it was their last pennant. If the roll is a tie, the pennant is lost to both teams.
Disorient
- Windy Disorientation -
When Wind tallies are maxed out, the opposing faction is affected by Windy Disorientation. Randomize two dragons from the opposing faction. These dragons are bound by the Wind Rune and become vastly confused. Flip a coin once daily for each dragon; on heads, the dragon manages to remain within the bounds of their own faction; on tails, the dragon stumbles to the other side and takes the place of one faction member in the day's coliseum battles. If they fall in battle, they immediately forfeit one pennant. If a dragon is serving the other faction on Saturday, they join that faction and regain any lost pennants.
Scratch
- Beast Bond -
When Familiar/Beastclan tallies are maxed out, the active faction is affected by Beast Bond. Randomize a non-affiliated dragon from the clan and add it to the active faction.
Acuity Fragment
- Prismatic Reflection -
When a neutral battle-stone drops, a new category of tally is added: Prismatic Reflection. This category can hold five tallies. When it is maxed out, Primsatic Reflection comes into affect for the active faction. Randomly select one elemental affect and apply it in reverse (active faction becomes opposing faction in the instructions and vice versa).
Vista: Gaoler Dragons
- Ancient Warrior -
When a gaoler gene change scroll drops, a new category of tally is added: Prismatic Reflection. This category can hold two tallies. When it is maxed out, Ancient Warrior comes into affect for the active faction. A free-standing ancient gaoler dragon fights for the active faction until the next period of Dominance, stalking the woods. At the end of each day, roll a dice. On a 5 or 6, the gaoler attacks and raids one pennant from a random opposing dragon.

Daily coliseum rounds are restricted, each team only able to complete ten. Fainting in these battles no longer loses pennants for dragons but, rather, the cessation of fighting for the day. During this week, items are of the utmost importance. In accordance with this, each team earns the right to use five turns of Gathering daily, with the chance to earn extra ones through obtaining rare drops. As a rule, each general “category” of items has its own affects, just like in Pinker week. See below: Food: Food becomes vitally important in the absence of rations. Each day, factions must procure enough food points to feed all of their dragons, either through coliseum activities or gathering. Any dragons that go hungry lose half a pennant, meaning that two days of hunger is enough to eliminate a scout. Food allocations are randomly decided in the case that food isn’t present for all dragons. Materials/Trinkets: Due to the absence of direct contact between the factions, materials make up the bulk of the combat between the two. Materials can be used, in a proper manner of course, to create distance weapons, barricades, and shelters. - Weapons: Comprised of 10 wood pieces, 10 stone pieces, 2 metal pieces, 1 gear/mechanism piece, and 1 “weapon” material. Once all of these things are combined, they create a long-distance weapon that can sap 1/2 of a pennant from a random opposing dragon. Whatever base “weapon” material was used is considered to be the ammunition for the weapon and must be replenished once per fire. A weapon can be used once daily at the start. Doubling the base compositional materials increases the damage to 1 pennant, and tripling the base compositional materials allows the weapon to be fired twice daily. Adding an advanced mage stone to the weapon allows the weapon to deal elemental damage, inflicting that element’s tally affect on the dragon that gets hit the next day. Dragons vulnerable to that type are also dealt double damage. A faction can have up to two weapons at a time. - Barricades: Comprised of 10 wood or stone pieces, 5 logs, and 3 foliage pieces. Barricades have a 50% chance (coin flip) to block an incoming projectile. Each barricade can block up to 2 projectiles. If there are multiple barricades, each one has a separate coin flip. Doubling the compositional materials increases the number of blocked projectiles to 3. A faction can have up to two barricades at a time. - Shelters: Comprised of 10 wood pieces, 10 stone pieces, 3 logs, and 1 apparel piece. Each shelter can protect two dragons from a projectile. In the morning, assign each shelter two dragons. If one of these dragons is randomly selected to be hit by a projectile, the projectile does nothing and the dragon is not harmed. Doubling the compositional materials increases the dragons sheltered by 1. A faction can have up to thee shelters at a time. Apparel: Any dragon that wears apparel earns a d20 roll each time they are targeted by a projectile. On a 20, they are protected from the attack. Apparel earned in the coliseum makes it a success on a 19 or a 20. A roll of one doubles damage received in either case, however, due to complications. Any day that I am unable to run the game is referred to as a ceasefire. Ceasefires do not impact the running of the game and do not extend weeks of Dominance. I will not apply themes during busy weeks because there will likely be many ceasefires.

___ "They failed to heed our warnings, so let them feel our venom."

» The Diamondbacks wrote:
Rattle Snake More withdrawn and strategic, the Diamondbacks carefully plan out each encounter, taking advantage of every dragons' unique capabilities. Under their leader, Tala, they make a formidable, if prone to inaction, team.

Their standard is the coiled rattlesnake on a tan background.

Team Captain

A rather secretive youth, no-one would have guessed Tala might make the spotlight during the Games, yet here she is! Her role as captain has somewhat emboldened her, bringing out a fierceness she wasn't entirely sure how to harness before. Where she was once just a face in the crowd, known only to the Ambassadorial crew and her beastclan wards, know she is the face of a faction. Slowly but surely, she's opening up and learning how to really work with her fellow dragons.

___ "Our bite is far worse than our bark."

» The Hellhounds wrote:
Black Wolf Cape Fierce and unrelenting, the Hellhounds take a more direct, violent approach to the game. Under their leader, Kris, they strike fast and hard; however, they aren't all too good at keeping their bold attacks defensible.

Their standard is the black wolf on a red flag.

Team Captain

Cold and calculating, Kris certainly has what it takes to lead her team to victory. No-one would really expect it of the shopkeep, yet her assumption of the team's highest role seems to have brought out her true self. Kris thrives in combat, possessing both brains and brawn enough to take her place in the game with gusto.
