Oh, the tale is the same
Told before and told again
"A soul that's born in cold and rain
Can learn of sunlight, sunlight, sunlight"

the usurper speaks:
It is my time. My moment. Have I not waited long enough? Have I not been patient? I let them test themselves—although they did not know it was a test—and watched them fail. They are not the first. Now it is my time to guide them, as I have guided others. Now it is time for the Saints to step through, to push aside their failed gods, and to lead us to salvation.

I am not a king, not an emperor. I am only a creature of humble origins, a child of the Saints. But through me they speak, and their voices ache to call out. I will not fail them. The weak call it a curse, but that is because they do not recognize freedom. They are blinded, and I will open their eyes to the light.

rules:
Fainting in the coli is death. Flip a coin on every hatched dragon (from a nest); tails is death. Do not gather for food.

Buying Dragons: You can only buy dragons on the auction house when you have three fully leveled dragons, and only buy one when you successfully level a dragon to 25 again. The dragon must be the cheapest in the auction house.

Eggs: You can only buy one egg a month. You can hatch any eggs instantly when acquired, or when you see fit. If another user donates an egg, they will have a Saint dedicated to them. The user may pick the name, although it should be fitting in a story. I don't want any silly or joke names.

Altering Dragons: At level 5, you may scatter. At level 10, you may change the primary. At 15, the secondary. At 20, the tertiary. Lastly, at 25, you may change the breed and eyes.

Retiring: Dragons may only retire if they are a) level 25, b) fully gened, c) have a bio, d) have art, e) and are fully dressed. If a dragon retires with an accent/skin, a gijinka, a full written story about them, and a theme song, then you may host a celebration in their honour and that day no dragon may die in the coliseum.

The Goal: The usurper is overthrown when the gods chosen few are hatched, eleven first generation dragons with colours befitting their flight. They must also meet all requirements for retirement.

This is to be expected, for the magic that Arven harnesses isn’t a gentle thing. It is holy, it is divine, and it is fed by the ichor of his Saints. (Although the voices of the damned had grown silent long before Arven’s magic was through.) And all the king’s men came storming from that palace of crystal and stone, but they fell and were felled by the power of Arven’s Saints. His magic was a tornado of strength, pushing them back and pushing them down. The palace, tall and imposing, was built on the twisting tunnels where their ancestors had first forged the clan. It was where they returned, as Arven willed it. And when every last living dragon was in the tunnels, Arven sealed them, silenced them, and hid them from the world. Arven has a bio now! Since there isn't much I can do in the coli with 1 adult dragon other than endlessly farm the training fields, I figured I could whip out something for the fae who started this all. His bio essentially ends where chapter 000 began, so think of this as a prologue to the prologue. lol

In his youth, Arven was a lonesome fae. He did not seek the company of others, and the clan that he was born into did not press him with trying. Perhaps it was because he was a fae and most of them were not—that his blank gaze and listless tone of voice bothered them.

Perhaps it was his praying.

Arven believed in the eleven, but he did not hold them to be holy. They were merely the first, gifted with strength and magic that could not be bested. To most, that meant godhood. To Arven, that only meant power, and one was not a god merely for being powerful.

When Arven looked up to the sky, and when the moonlight brightened his equally white wings (like ice they were, frozen and shimmering and, oh, so cold), he felt a little bit of peace. There was comfort in the moon’s simple beauty, of pale light and nighttime tranquility. Now, the moon was something grand. It was beautiful, bright, elegant. It illuminated the night, casting away shadows and dark sleep. If there was to be something divine in the world, it would be hidden within the spotted face of the moon.

Divuna, he called her. Saint of the Night and Moonlight. Not a god—Arven would never believe in gods, in all-powerful beings, because his Saints were much more genuine to him—and not stained with the muddy blood of mortality. She was the first, the one he called his patron. The one he would hold higher than all others, and the one whose soul branched out and extended into other Saints. So began the Sainthood.

"Why do the clouds cry?" He stared out the ornate glass windows, the view of outside warped through the rivulets of water. "Like all things, even the sky grieves." "What is it grieving?" Aibek turned to look at the small fae, sitting in the filtered light. They were in the room the hatchlings were born in, although the sheets had been replaced with comfortable beds fluffed with pillows and cotton blankets. With a tilt of his head, Arven looked to the clouds. "I could not say. I am only fae. The worries of celestial bodies are not told to me." He fluttered his wings and took to the air, flying over to land on Aibek. His feet disappeared in the thick fur of the young tundra. "We can only offer condolences to the Saint who mourns." A clatter sounded behind them, and through the door came Isaac. Although nearly the same age as Aibek, the guardian was already bigger than both his nestmate and Arven. Less graceful, too, as he usually entered a room with a great deal of noise. "Lord Arven," Isaac said as he entered, tucking his wings in close. "I have cleaned the cellar as you have asked." He flicked his gaze between Arven and Aibek, almost too quick to catch. With the mask on, Isaac could not see Arven's face, but the fae's crest was alert as always. Flying off of Aibek's back, Arven flicked his tail to dismiss the tundra and perched neatly on the back seat of a chair, facing Isaac. Only when Aibek had left the room—with a last backwards glance at the two—did Arven speak. His gaze was sharp, watchful. "And what did you find there, boy?" There was a glint in Isaac's eyes, a knowing look that Aibek would never carry. "Secrets," he said plainly. "Although not secret to me." "And do you know why?" The sarcastic quip slipped out of Isaac's mouth before he could stop it. "Because you trust me ever so much?" In reply, ice cut through the air and plastered onto Isaac's mouth. It was cold, even on his scales, and for a moment he struggled to breathe until Arven freed his nostrils. He inhaled deeply, but his mouth remained closed. "It is only for love of my Saint that I do not cut out your tongue, boy." The words, delivered in a flat monotone, still felt harsh and stinging. Isaac lowered his gaze as Arven flew closer, landing a foot away. His shadow stretched away from the window, casting over Isaac. "I show you the secrets beneath this palace because you are a guardian. Because I knew, as soon as you hatched, who your Charge was. Aibek will lead my empire when I have built it. His heart must remain untainted. And you-" Isaac watched as Arven's shadow drew closer, the edges warping with magic. "You and I will keep it that way. It is our duty for the Saints, but it is your duty to your soul." Even when the ice melted away from his mouth, Isaac did not speak. Even when Arven left the room and Aibek, with soft footsteps, padded in and sat next to Isaac. Together, they stared out the window. Hatched a new egg last night gifted by Chrisondra! This one hatched as a female mirror who I've since named Marley. She's a very green little thing, and I think I've already got some lore plans for her. \o/

As with all egg donations, we've got a new Saint! This one is Saint Ourakles, Patron of Divination and Knowing. Maybe that'll give you a hint as to what Marley is about. I plan to have a lore update posted today introducing her, so keep an eye out!
