The two had been traveling together for some time, ever since Violet had left home. Her parents had one of the most famous love stories in all of Sornieth, having been part of a competition called ‘The Bachelorette,’ and Violet desired to find a love as beautiful and perfect as theirs had been. Zeal was charming, and the two had hit it off instantly. Violet had left with him the very next day, despite her parents protests. Surely they should understand though? What it was like to find The One? Still, that hadn’t stopped the pair of them from ending up in a deserted city in shadow, nary a dragon in sight. “Where even are we?” Violet murmured quietly to herself. “Some city that has met great ruin,” Zeal responded, pointing out the obvious. “A slight detour, but we should soon be back on track.” Violet didn’t argue. It sent a flood of jealousy through Violet, but she said nothing. “You must be new in town.” “What’s a pretty thing like you doing out here?” Zeal asked. He was eyeing the spiral in the same way he looked at Violet, and the young spiral never felt so ashamed in her life. Maybe she hadn’t won the attention of the skydancer as well as she had thought. She had been such an idiot, and now she was lost and she felt tears beginning to well in her eyes. She suddenly wished she was back home. “My name is Seaberry, and this is my daughter, Karma,” the spiral said, not taking her eyes off of the skydancer. “There is a royal wedding scheduled for this afternoon, and you are more than welcome to join, the whole kingdom is invited.” “A wedding?!” Violet had always wanted to see one of those! She perked up immediately. “Yes, would you like to join us?” Seaberry asked, as if noticing Violet for the first time. “Yes!” Violet exclaimed, not even looking at Zeal for his approval. “Yeah, sure, why not?” Zeal rolled his eyes at Violet, but hardly seemed bothered at the prospect of spending more time in the city. “Sounds like a plan!” Seaberry grinned, once again looking at Zeal. “Let me show you the way!” Larkin felt a rush of emotion as she helped her daughter prepare for the wedding. Every day, there was something new to be proud of. She was handling the kingdom amazingly, and she was about to marry an amazing dragon. Deep down, she had a feeling Topaz would hardly have approved of Age’s choice of husband, but Larkin found she didn’t care. “How are you feeling?” Larkin asked as she combed Age’s fur. “I don’t know, excited? A little nervous?” Age giggled nervously. “I just can’t believe it’s actually happening! I mean, this doesn’t change much, not really. We’re already so close. But this makes it official.” “That is something special,” Larkin grinned a little sadly, still thinking about Topaz. “Do you wish you had married Dad?” Age asked suddenly, meeting her mother’s gaze in the mirror. “It’s hard to say,” Larkin admitted, busying herself with her daughter’s fur again. “In a lot of ways, it took time for me to trust your father. Topaz had so many great ideals, but sometimes he got so caught up in his dreams that he forgot to care for other dragons. I followed him here because he made me feel special, after having spent so long forgotten and belonging to no one, but sometimes, his intensity scared me. He was changing though, before Jett’s egg was found. I was beginning to feel I could trust him, and partner with him to make the kingdom a beautiful place. Then Heaven stole him from us.” “Oh,” Age said, looking down sadly. Larkin saw tears glistening in her eyes. “I’m sorry, my dear, I shouldn’t have said anything. This is a day to be happy,” Larkin said, realizing her mistake. “No, no, it’s fine,” Age sniffed. “I just wish he was here, you know?” Larkin nodded knowingly. “How are you doing, mom, with all of this?” Age asked. “I know you still miss dad a lot.” “I may miss him, but you make me proud. You are building on the foundation he has laid better than he ever could. You are an amazing queen, and I strongly believe that you will go down in history as the queen who built the clan up again.” Larkin grinned. “You didn’t answer my question,” Age said, looking pointedly at her mom. “Honey, that’s not for you to worry about right now. You’re about to get married. We can have this conversation another day,” Larkin pointed out. “Accident will be waiting.” As she finished up the last finishing touches, Larkin couldn’t help but feel a weight settle in her chest. Her grief still hung heavily within her, and she couldn’t help but feel something was missing. What was she forgetting? Age grinned as she made her way towards Accident. She was barely paying any attention to the dragons around her, though she was certain the crowd seemed larger than usual. In front of the throne, Accident stood, shifting nervously, yet still beaming at her. Behind him was Ulf, looking at her with a warm smile. Everyone’s eyes were on her, and for once, it didn’t make her wriggle under her skin. This was a declaration she wanted to make public, to proclaim her love for Accident. Age took her place beside the mirror, casting a glance at him and grinning widely. This was one of the most exciting moments of her life. The two turned to face the gaoler. “Since I am the closest to a deity, I have been chosen to perform the ceremony,” Ulf said, slightly gruffly, though his eyes gave away a twinkle of something else. “Love is not something to be taken lightly, it’s something that must be given. This ceremony today is binding. Like the strongest of chains, this is a bond that must not be broken. This is why we gather, to make your bond to one another public, and to make a commitment to one another. We will hear these vows now. Age, would you like to go first?” Age turned to Accident, heart pounding in her chest. “Your name may be Accident, but meeting you was not one. You have shown me what it is to be without the titles and the expectations laid upon me. Through your humble beginnings, you have given me freedom, because you know what it is to life day by day, making the most of every moment we have been given. I can’t wait to live my life side by side with you, forever. You mean everything to me, Accident, and I love you dearly. Let nothing ever break us apart.” “And now, Accident,” Ulf sniffed, and Age saw there was a tear in his eye. The gaoler attempted to discreetly wipe it away. “Age I-” Accident swallowed. The mirror was shaking from the nerves, but he took a deep breath and tried again. “Before I met you Age, I didn’t know what it was like to be important. Spurned by my mother and my father, I felt like a no one. And then I stumbled into you, and you took interest in me. Actually, you more than took interest in me, you valued me, choosing me above your kingdom, above all else. Age, now it is time to say that I choose you. You are the most precious gift I have ever received, and it amazes me daily that such a queen fell for silly old me. I can’t wait to stand by you and support you as you build this kingdom stronger. Thank you for letting me be a part of your journey, I want to see your story through to the end.” As Accident finished, the room erupted with clapping. It was the most eloquent speech the mirror had ever given in front of a crowd. “And now, the rings,” Ulf announced. He nodded to Bahat and Bonegnasher, and the two made their way forward, handing them off to their parents. With a few more words, they slipped the rings on each other’s fingers. “What has been joined together, let no one break apart,” Ulf sniffed, not even hiding his tears now. “By the power given to me by the Icewarden, Accident and Age, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride.” Age let out a squeal of excitement and leaped towards Accident, wings catching the air. The mirror leaped up to meet her, and the two twirled in the air, swirling around each other and lips meeting in a kiss. Age could almost swear the beacon fire seemed to be growing brighter and higher, though it could very well be just the ecstasy of the moment. The two landed again, and Age felt a little warm, suddenly aware of all the eyes on her. Her embarrassment was short lived, however, as Pomona moved to step forwards. “Age, I don’t remember much about my mom, but I know you two were good friends. I would like to sing you both a song, a message of love from me and my mom,” Pomona held her head high, and began to sing. Age had never heard a voice so beautiful. Pomona had an amazing talent. She found herself getting lost in the melody, and tears came to her eyes as she saw Nevaeh’s confidence in the young snapper. She could almost swear that she could feel Nevaeh right there in the room with her, cheering her on. And then, all of a sudden, the song was interrupted by a bright flash of light. It was reminiscent of the light Age had seen around her eldest son when he hatched, and for a moment, she wondered if he had returned. Instead of a tundra, however, a small fae hatchling appeared in front of the couple. It looked up at the room with wide, pink eyes, and upon realizing he recognized nothing, began to cry. Pomona stopped her song, staring down at the hatchling in surprise. The room fell silent, save for the cries of the hatching. Age felt a tug in her heart, and she knelt to scoop up the hatchling in her arms. She rocked him gently, and he soon calmed, clinging tightly to the fur on her chest. “It appears the kingdom has given Accident and I a wedding present,” Age announced, casting a slightly nervous glance at her new husband. The mirror seemed surprised, but he nodded, and moved closer to Age, touching his nose to the fae’s. The tension was broken, and the gather dragons cheered. Age couldn’t help but grin. It was time to make their way to the ballroom for the reception. “It’s a pity your song got interrupted, I liked it.” Pomona turned to see Bonegnasher walking up to her, snacks in hand. He sat down beside her and began tossing grapes in his mouth, probably in some attempt to be cool. “Thanks,” Pomona said. “But I can do better.” “What do you mean? Your song was beautiful!” Bonegnasher exclaimed, tossing a few more grapes. “Yeah, but that was a wedding song. I can do so much more, just you wait and see!” Pomona exclaimed, before she realized she was bragging. Then she realized that she didn’t care. Bonegnasher bragged all the time. Suddenly, music started up, and some of the dragons moved to dance. Pomona cast a curious glance at Bonegnasher. “Do you want to dance?” She asked, itching to get out and give the dance floor a shot. “Nah,” Bonegnasher said, tossing another grape. “You go have fun though, it seems more your thing than mine.” Pomona shrugged, having expected that answer, and moved to take the dance floor. Bailaduel could hear the beat of the music as she left the ballroom. Her time had come, it was time to move on. to another place, in another job. No one had noticed her slip away, this way there would be no one to stop her. Or so she thought. Just as Bailaduel looked over her shoulder to make sure no one had followed, she found herself bumping into a large, fluffy form. She turned to see Ulf standing in front of her, looking at her curiously. "And where do you think you're going?" The gaoler asked. ----- Next ----- @CleverDual @HauntedWhale @Disillusionist @AlchemyFox @Tirtouga678 @catmeow1 @Leopardmask @Midwinter @chantric @Dynami @ShinyDecidueye @tigressRising @FallenEclipse @Stitched @Willnotgogently @Sabariel @MisterMylez @Skystrider @Starongie @icetail0912 @myriadofstars @Aetherstorm @Weredogalism @Nargeorgicorn @WeaverofLies @herobrinna @secretlylying ----- I wasn't expecting to write today. I mean, I planned to have the wedding chapter out today, but that was before I found out this morning that my grandfather passed away. But then I started writing this evening and ended up with a finished chapter, so here we are. Due to events, though, I opted not to do my Coli turns today because I don't know if I could handle losing another dragon today of all days. Also, you might be confused about the appearance of the new dragons in my pinkerlocke when I clearly only got one familiar pull. Let me explain:

Violet is the result of the familiar pull. I used the rule that allows me to use one familiar pull a month to get a dragon of my choice to take her in from CleverDual's recently finished first season of the Bachelorette. Season 2 is coming and I am super hyped, but that's another story. I'll be sure to let you all know when that kicks off in case you're interested!
Zeal is a traveling dragon, though he's going to stick around a little longer than most for reasons... (I might start making certain traveling dragons stick around for longer plot points, particularly if their lore fits well with pinkerlocke lore)
Bohrium (or the fae hatchling) is from @Tirtouga678 's alphabet legacy challenge. I took him in because a) I hadn't used my free dragon allowance for June and b) I will look for any and every excuse to take in alphabet legacy spares, I love them and they hold a special place in my heart. So Age and Accident have a new son now.
Also, it just dawned on me that had I waited one more day, the wedding could have been on Day 50.

Age, would you like to go first?”

Age turned to Accident, heart pounding in her chest. Let nothing ever break us apart.”

“And now, Accident,” Ulf sniffed, and Age saw there was a tear in his eye.

Thank you for letting me be a part of your journey, I want to see your story through to the end.”

As Accident finished, the room erupted with clapping.

You may now kiss the bride.”

Age let out a squeal of excitement and leaped towards Accident, wings catching the air.

“It’s a pity your song got interrupted, I liked it.”

Pomona turned to see Bonegnasher walking up to her, snacks in hand. He sat down beside her and began tossing grapes in his mouth, probably in some attempt to be cool.

“Thanks,” Pomona said. “But I can do better.”

“What do you mean?

“You go have fun though, it seems more your thing than mine.”

Pomona shrugged, having expected that answer, and moved to take the dance floor.

I wasn't expecting to write today.

  • Violet is the result of the familiar pull.
  • Zeal is a traveling dragon, though he's going to stick around a little longer than most for reasons... (I might start making certain traveling dragons stick around for longer plot points, particularly if their lore fits well with pinkerlocke lore)
  • Bohrium (or the fae hatchling) is from @Tirtouga678 's alphabet legacy challenge.

But when Accident said 'I choose you', Pokemon popped into my head. Way to nearly ruin it, me! It's still really good though, you perfectly described everything!

Pinkerlocke? Not now, but one day...
Sometimes writing is the best thing to do. Especially a happy post like this, to take your mind off the real world for a bit :) I wouldn't have done the Coli part in your position either.
