Gonna be honest. It's been a while (8 years.....), but I'm PRETTY sure it was an ad in the sidebar on fanfiction.net, of all things.

Tumblr... wayyy back in the day when the site still had registration windows. I remember missing October's by like 1 day so I set a reminder for November's and joined the minute it opened.. which also happened to be during a college lecture [emoji=nocturne deadpan size=1]

A registration window dragon giveaway from fic writer I followed on tumblr. During the old registration windows, it wasn't uncommon for people to give care packages and free dragons to new users as a welcome gift.
It was the ugliest little green spiral, so naturally I thought it was incredibly cute. I missed April 2015's reg window so I joined in May.
Edit: Forgot to say I'd heard about the kickstarter in friend circles from people that were more into pet sims and because pet sims weren't really my thing, I didn't back it, and then completely forgot about it. Joke's on me, right? Never thought I'd play it daily for nearly 10 years for sure.
