Never had issues seeing them as small. They're clearly designed like Fairy Dragons, and Fairy Dragons are usually small. Small animals don't always have bigger eyes and smaller features, babies usually do but not adults of small animals. A corn snake and a king cobra are going to have roughly the same proportions.

I prefer the concept of larger dragons over "fairy" size, but I've never really had any trouble accepting their smaller size. I understand why these vaguely horse-shaped dragons look like they should be bigger to some folk, but any insectoids—even just insectoid wings—read as small to me. Not to mention, that're more fae-esque than literal Fae dragons.
Actually, Aethers look like they should be smaller for this exact reason.

their wings are tiny, how else would they fly?
Who said they had to, seeing as snappers don't?
The story that introduced them says they do. XD
Though, the size is the least of the problems with insectoid wings on a vertrebrate.

I explain the flight of dragons with a combination of magic and different gravity levels.

Agreed @/PixelSpiral, I think they look ok for their size, but for a slightly different reason. They give me ferret vibes! Ferrets have a similar proportion of head & eyes to the rest of their body. Also, I can totally picture this Shadow-born dragon moving around in the bizarre slinky way that a Mustelid does.

Because of their proportions, I thought they'd be horse sized too, and at the smallest I'd accept...like Greyhound size.
Aren't Aethers bigger? Which trips me up because their proportions scream small to me, like cat sized at the largest. The big eyes, small faces, moth wings...

i always imagined them to be like big drapey trees so i was also really shocked to find out they're so small. don't get me wrong i love more tiny dragons but veils specifically don't really fit it imo

I think they suffer from their poses. Something about fae poses scream small, but veils just take up too much space. I was convinced forever that they were imp size, cause they just have that vibe. But I feel like if they did more of a swoopy flying pose, they'd feel smaller.

I dunno if that's it, because spirals are extremely small but their pose implies they're much larger despite being swoopy. I'm using this chart as a reference, but - to me at least - spirals and coatls seem similar?

But that's just not the case

Or Pearlcatchers and Veilspuns, tbh. they don't look they'd be exactly the same, but the disparity shouldn't be this large

Because the disparity is:

Some like imperials make some sense, but not all of them and I'd argue Veilspuns are in the category of not proportioned for their size /shrug
