Lone dragons wandering at night have often come upon one of these spirits. Hostile creatures, seeking only to attack and destroy, seemingly mindless. Few escape, yet those who do can't help but wonder what sort of dragon they were in life. Much of them is decayed, and the parts which aren't offer few clues. Very few dragons have ever figured out the truth.
A Wraith, so often mistaken for the restless spirits of the dead, are not true ghosts at all. Rather, they are death and energy given a draconic form, and a sort of false life.
When a dragon dies in fear or agony, in rage or grief, their spirit will struggle to find rest, and they will wander about as a ghost, appearing much as they did in life. But when many dragons die like this, when an entire family or even clan is wiped out, a Wraith is born. The negative emotions of the slain join together, creating something that only knows how to fight and destroy, to seek revenge on the cruel world which killed its makers.
Or, at least, that's what the old legends say. I'm sure it's nothing.

They do look awfully dragon-y...

Perhaps they come with different appearances based on the clan's alliance. The brownish one (can't think of names rn) could have been a plague or nature clan, and the bluish one may have been a shadow or lightning clan.
I'm trying to think of ways they could be put to rest, but I can't decide if that's too wishful.

I'm not sure if they can be put to rest, since they aren't technically the spirits themselves, more an emotional aftershock.

Thank you!
There's probably some way to get rid of them though. Like maybe put to rests all the souls who made it, and then it just sort of dissipates on its own.

I always thought it'd be cool to have them be guardians who never found their charge. Guardians have massive life spans but presumably aren't eternal. Slowly they will age and each day will bring them closer to death. But the drive to find their charge forces them to stay alive as they are slowly rotting. The pain of their body decomposing as they live on is brushed aside by the drive to find their charge. It is still out there - it must be...
I always planned on writing lore for a guardian about that... Just haven't gotten around to it.
