A traveler from distant Lanternlea Port,
Lazaria is the Pale Scar Clan's first-ever (successful) librarian. She's tamed the wild and boundless collection of books, scrolls, journals, periodicals, artwork, and correspondence into an orderly and pristine (and accessible) library for the whole clan to use. She's proud of her work, and while it seems that her wandering days have been cut short, she still dreams of adventure and freedom...
The clan's "guest," Prince
Alaric, never intended to curtail Lazaria's freedom. He never intended to be part of the unruly Plague clan, either. Captured in a raid as a young pup, Alaric has since then become more than a political prisoner. He doesn't wish for anymore bloodshed between the two clans, and so he acts in the best interests of both his original family and the clan which now hosts him. He agreed to marry the beautiful librarian at the behest of the Sapiarchs, the Pale Scar Clan's three matriarchs, and he has taken up their banner on the field of battle against the Shade-touched creatures of the land.
The two have had a successful nest of hatchlings, all of whom have been exalted to the Plaguebringer, and they are slowly but surely growing closer. Not all is well, however, for there is a contender for Lazaria's affections...
His name is
Heisenberg. He was once a lord in a distant and very troubled kingdom. He doesn't speak of his past to anyone, nor has he revealed that his only reason for swearing fealty to the Pale Scar Clan is that he is enthralled by the beauty of Lazaria. He forges impressive weaponry and has even augmented a pearlcatcher who was on the brink of death into a "living" weapon, but now he's turned his deft claws to more delicate work, filling Lazaria's chambers with steel myosotis, intricately-carved feline netsuke, and even jewelry. He speaks tenderly to her, and appeals to her desire for freedom and adventure.
Will Heisenberg successfully woo the steadfast and dutiful Lazaria, or will Prince Alaric prevail? And why does the Sapiarchy permit this to happen, anyway? One answer is that this provides them with another scandal to speculate on while drinking their wine and playing cards.
They also can't wait for the three young dragons to figure out that no one in the Pale Scar Clan really cares about monogamy anyway!
