Lazaria
Librarian | Scholar | Cat Lover

Lazaria was venturing across Sornieth--at least, that was her goal. She did make it all the way to the Abiding Boneyard, which was no small feat for a lone traveler. One night, while resting in a tavern, she heard of a clan that was looking for an assistant to help organize their books, scrolls, notes, and artwork. Thinking that she could make a little coin and be done with it, Lazaria presented herself before the Sapiarchs and explained that she was a scholar who kept her own library at home.

Sapiarch Shelby was impressed. She folded her dainty claws on her lap and asked, "how long are you willing to stay, dear?"

"How long?" Lazaria repeated, not comprehending the enormity of the task she was about to agree to.

Sapiarch Sedona led her to a chasmal chamber deep in the heart of the Pale Scar Clan's lair, where piles of books and scrolls and loose leaves of parchment lay collecting dust. There wasn't a bookshelf in sight, and in one corner, an irradiated astronomer nibbled on a breed change scroll, unbothered by the dragons' presence.

Lazaria was mortified. Then, she became determined. "Consider me your new librarian. I'll send for my things from Lanternlea Port. My family will understand."

So it came to pass that Lazaria threw in her lot with the Pale Scar Clan. She expected to be left alone to her task. What she did not expect was to become entangled in the clan's interpolitical affairs. It was Sapiarch Aradia who arranged for her betrothal to the Earth-born prince Alaric, a "guest" of the Pale Scar Clan.

"Your life will be one of comfort and ease if that is what you want," Aradia assured her. Lazaria didn't want comfort and ease. Lazaria wanted adventure and freedom! She was irate until she met the mournful young prince.

"Do what thou wilt," Alaric said to Lazaria, a deep sadness in his eyes. "A clutch of hatchlings is all they ask of us, and then perhaps we can become friends if love is not what you desire..."

Lazaria's heart was touched. She nuzzled him and said, "we're both prisoners of fate and strangers to this land. Let us see if love will grow between us."

And so, Lazaria agreed to this marriage, and together they created a nest of eggs. Lazaria returned to her work as a librarian, ordering shelves and desks, making a record of every scrap of parchment in the entire lair, and organizing it all. As she continued her work and turned the piles of books and scrolls into an orderly collection, another sandsurge entered her life, though quietly at first.

He was a stranger, one who'd appeared in the lair overnight. By day he would train alongside Alaric and the other Seeping Knights, and by night he would work in the forge, constructing bizarre machines and strange weaponry. He introduced himself to her as Heisenberg, and presented her with a cluster of steel myosotis, cold and undying, but undeniably beautiful. Once, when he caught a glimpse of her owlcat journal, he loudly declared that he would capture one of the elusive beasts and present it to her on a chain.

"What if it doesn't want to be here?" She asked him.

"Do you want to be here?" He asked her in return. "What compels you to stay? Obligation? Honor? Is your reputation worth the cost? You're a long way from the realm of Light..."
