Considering one of the most prominent themes of Death is the rising sun in the background representing the new beginnings that come with Death of the old, I think the golden hues of blend are really appealing.

First off, I took the liberty of swapping his genes around just a bit.
In this image he has [ Ground / Alloy / Veined ]

And I made an outfit for him too! I hope you can get some good ideas from it! I recommend that, whatever you do, probably cover up his eyes. They clash a bit too hard with the color of the alloy, his tert color, and the blue-ish hues in obsidian. But I like his element, cause it's kind of like a "winds of change" thing. Anyway! I didn't put too much detail since it's already pretty cluttered (half due to obelisk design, half due to the big fullbody pieces) and the most expensive pieces will be the guise and the mane.

First off i want to say that he looks fantastic already! But apparel wise i would personally make a few small changes

I changed the skull for one that was more visibly contrasted and gave him a scythe, though I think [item=standard of the plaguebringer] would work well as a big accessory too since Death is depicted in front of a banner in the rider waite deck.
Familiar wise I would also suggest swapping his familiar for one of the horse based ones, maybe [item=valorous battlemare] since in many depictions Death rides a white horse
