To see a forest adorned in such grotesque ornaments is a grave warning that you've encroached upon the territory of a Thorny Floral. Thankfully, they often work in tandem with other Floral Fiends and consider the safety of their kind paramount over their hunts, acting as guards and patrolling their territories constantly for intruders or laying in the sun to soak up energy for their next move. Their erratic, violent nature can make them hard to read, but their loyalty to their gardens is absolute. If joining a pre-existing lair, Floral Fiends will often seek to expand upon what is already present in order to carve out space for their extensive gardens. Gardens are the official name for Floral Fiend communities as well as their expansive patches of verdure cultivated purposefully to be used as sanctuary for their kin and their kind. On the surface Floral Fiends cultivate food, bait, and most importantly camouflage. However the Aberrations themselves rarely linger above the surface, preferring instead to spread out across the territory during the day, and return to the labyrinthian tunnels below their Garden at night. Gardens will reflect the environment they're cultivated in and use little to no magic to sustain themselves, even in the most inhospitable of climates. Ambered Florals will consume especially-immense quantities of food, able to burn through as much as twice their body weight in a single day. Florals with dark scleras will excel at night but suffer in higher levels of light. Florals with fractal eyes are better at discerning minute details, but struggle to see at a distance. Multiple eyes are favored for their complete lack of blind spots, but are more prone to being damaged. Twisted pupils are renowned for their trance-inducing gaze, although they can't see very well at all. Horizontal eyes are best for keeping watch over large swaths of land at a time, yet disdained for their similarities to prey. Plague, Wind, Water, and Nature primals are favored for the helpful traits they display, while Lightning, Ice, Light, and Fire primals are an active threat to a garden. Florals will almost always have at least one bound: Another dragon or creature that they must protect with their life. More bound is a sign of higher social standing, both because they have earned the respect of those individuals, but also because failing to protect their followers is a sign of weakness. And Aberrations cannot stand to be weak. Thus, Fiends aspiring for power among their kind will first have to win their way into the hearts of many other Fiends. This can be done in any number of ways including but not limited to: Good deeds, campaigning, sharing gifts, impressive feats of wit and/or strength, and simple popularity. A Floral Fiend that has collected a large enough following of bound, within or outside their own clan, will be crowned and recognized as floral royalty. However, this status comes with a drawback. Royals are expected to serve their followers to their own very demise. If a follower is to be killed through means outside their own, the Royal is disgraced and banished from Floral societies, and a Royal's popularity is [i]always[/i] increasing. A large, content following is a sign of a wise and powerful ruler. Long-standing Floral Royalty are often heavily weathered from their battles and experiences in keeping their following safe and constant travel to different ends of their influence, but venerated as heroes and gods for their efforts. Disgraced royalty on the other hand are seen as prey. Weak, pathetic animals to be hunted and consumed. The cost of failure is, most often, death.
