I dunno.. but for a gem gene, I'd expect a pattern on the head and tail fluff too. There's quite some gold genes who do alter those.

Butterfly doesn’t add patterns to head or tail fluff on any other breed so this wouldn’t make any sense

Fea's head fins are not forgotten?
@Artnerd if you look at other breeds the standard is that crests and more "leathery" parts have the pattern such as the nocturne's neck frill, ridgeback's armpits, skydancer's crest, bogsneak's crest & wildclaw's crest)
And furry parts do not. This would mean every piece of fur would have to be updated and that's pretty counterproductive. (Guardian's beard, Imperial's ankles, mane, & tail, Obelisk's ankles, mane, & tail, Pearlcatcher's ankles, mane, & tail, skydancer's feathery back, ankles, & tail, tundra's mane & tail, & veilspun's mane)
The only exceptions are the coatl who has 100% feathered wings so the secondary gene is feathered, the skydancer's half leather half feather wings, and the fae's neck crest. So aether's design is at least standardized.
From a nerdy graphic design standpoint I think the furry part's don't have it because it clearly shows the secondary color and creates a nice contrast if the other genes are also loud. Sometimes I appreciate it and sometimes I don't. [emoji=guardian tongue size=1]

Fae always display secondaries on their headfins, it's just a feature of the Fae. Sometimes the full pattern, sometimes just a tint or blend.

Aethers are far less consistent with their secondaries affecting their head fluff. Might be an oversight?
