I love speculative evolution stuff!
Serina especially. Can't think about "I love you, bird" without bursting into tears honestly.

Personally, reading the last few parts of The Visitor always makes me cry.

Yes! That too. I had been visibly crying enough after it that my roommate asked if I was ok when I went into the kitchen, lol.

I'd recommend starting off by basing it on things they could first percieve and also early relationships between them and the ecosystem. Along with misconceptions and assumptions from their daily life. Think of how people used to think Earth was the center of the solar system, and spontaneous generation. Go from there with scientific achievements, etc and larger societal changes, culture, injustices, et cetera

to me, start with what they're build for and then just make them decent and actually respectful of each other
everything starts with respect, in my opinion

I have been working on a world-building project for quite some time, most of the time was just scrapping ideas and making new ones in turn for that (for example, I've gone from making my species a highly advanced civilization apart of a galactic federation to a bronze-age level society to a semi-nomadic hunter-gather-esque culture. I've found making up mythology for the species fun, and it's been interesting thinking about how they would pick up and build things, how they'd get around, etc. My main sentient species has 4 fingers, 3 main and a thumb-like appendage in the center. A good practice I've found was to try to recreate that with my hands and try to experiment how I'd pick up such items with hands like that. What do you guys think?

No, random internet article, technology does not need fire to “kick-start” it, as far as I know. How narrow-minded and human-centric.
