I would like to introduce--Ruin! I think spines really works well for her, it ties her outfit and colors together nicely, and adds to her a fierce look ^^

I really like spines mostly for those "not so great terts" on dragons you don't want to leave basic, or terts that match accent colors.

I do the exact same thing! A lot of the time when I don’t like a gene I’ll scry my best possible version of it and then start a big project to make it. I did smirch first and currently I’m on Scales. This is my guy with spines tho, you can only really see them on the tail but I’m still into it

Turns out I've got tons of them, mostly because I have a few oldies that I applied spines onto way back when spines was the most low-key tert out there. I used it mostly to hide a bad tert color, but occasionally, like with Murphy, it was more on purpose:

I wanted it to look like bones. It also suits mirrors in general very well, probably because they're so sleek usually.

I agree with everyone above who say its only good on some dragons, I thought I had a few spines dragons but it only turns out I have one and they're almost INVISIBLE

Scry to see them better. I hope that at some point in the future there's a gene/update that makes them bigger/easier to see
