From the lighthouse, and cross the bog, across the mud:
You'll see it. A crimson pool, or maybe a mouth.
So it's always been, or so we've heard, until this year,
When we came to see and didn't know what to make
Of it. Amid the trees the water was crystal-clear;
a trail of footprints leading out of the lake.
