[sup]I love thylacines, also known as Tasmanian tigers. Shame they've been extinct since about 1936. :c They were the largest carnivorous marsupials.

axolotl
A species very close to the fire salamander, only catch is they are stuck in their tadpole-like stage, if they come in contact with an adult they will mature and die. T.T

I don't know if they count as "unusual" exactly, but I hardly ever see them on peoples' favorite animal lists. I love goats.

Axolotls pale in comparison to sirens...

The Greater Siren is North America's LONGEST(not largest, longest) salamander, reaching up to 5 feet long.
they are named because they look to be half salamander and half eel, similar to the sirens of old, and due to the fact that they are highly vocal creatures(I for one know this because I used to own one was back when...)
all in all sirens are my favorite animal.

also most types of sportive lemurs are cool
I love almost all birds although I don't think that's unusual. My favorite birds are the corvids. And then turkey vultures because they're awesome.
Hyenas are one of my favorite mammals. Also pangolins. And pronghorns. And dik-diks. And mooses.
Reptiles are also cool. I don't have a favorite species though. I just really like snakes. Milk snakes are one of my favorites, but I pretty much like them all.
And like a horrible person, I'm just going to lump all invertebrates together over here because I'm terrible. There's only a handful that come to mind when as favorites, and those are cephalopods (squids, octopodes, cuttlefish, etc) and horseshoe crabs.
