They should have a separate category for all the bots. Just to see if they are the reason the numbers are so high.
[/quote]
I rather think that maybeee there should be separate number category for invisible users because everytime something like this happens, people assume it is all bots when they see guests (it seems to raise unneccessary concern). that or add guests*
*accounts set to invisible count as guests
smth like so. no idea

11.7k and 10k of them are guests. I've heard some stuff about websites implementing endless link mazes to trap scraper bots, so maybe that's what's going on? That many bots at once is crazy though omg
(FYI, if you click on the online users counter you can see a list of all the online users. I didn't learn this until last week lol)

lol really just trapping bots in the digital backrooms
Seriously though, hopefully they're mostly real people who have just for some reason found out about Flight Rising or returned to it. I would prefer that bots not come and steal all my writing [emoji=coatl deadpan size=1]

I love bugs, especially moths and mantises! And sharks as well :)

I know very little about website coding to be fair but just knowing this site, I would be surprised if FR had any kind of endless link maze or deterrent/trap like that.
which sucks :/
Once again I pray all this crap tech bros are going rabid over goes the way of NFTs lol

Not big on IT stuff either, but the AI maze thing is a very new development by Cloudflare, like last month new. It's only available to websites hosted on their service, which... no idea if FR is.

Hey everyone!
Our guest counter counts each unique IP that is not connected to a logged in player as a guest.
Some newer web crawlers, even those run by major companies, are using many, many IP addresses and the current guest counter implementation is hyper sensitive to this behavior.
We're working on blocking some of these crawlers, as some of them are likely being used to train AI models. This type of traffic is something all web sites across the internet are dealing with right now. We happen to surface it in the guest counter in a way that is more pronounced and visible to our community. This also all means that with the current behavior of web crawlers these days, the guest counter is no longer providing a useful measure of how many humans are browsing the site without logging in, like it did 10 years ago or even 5 years ago.
All of this is to say, we are aware and we are looking into how best to address this new type of web traffic.

"There are currently 1498 users and 8707 guests visiting Flight Rising." Thats a lot of "Guests". At least its not slowing down the website. ik that usualy when the count is higher the site slows down, but i guess thats when more users are on rather than "Guests".
Edit: its over 9000 "guests" now. wow.

As a person who also runs a pet site, I frankly just do not log non logged in people into the count due to it being a waste of resources. Bots sadly use different IPs for basically every single page they check. So one bot checking 100 pages in 1 minute can count as 100 people unless you just ignore them. Maybe it would be best to only count logged in users to avoid raising the alarm. As it is unlikely to be 8000 bots, but maybe 8 to 30 bots shuffling around with different IP addresses a page. Which is at least less alarming.

That's not particularly abnormal. Guests includes people who have their activity hidden.

Thank you for the information and reassurance that you're trying to stop it! Hopefully the bots are vanquished... maybe glitchy Marva can go get them
