I strongly agree that there should be an exception made to allow them to get the gene before a full year. It's their flight's gene, after all! But I'm glad to know it was an error, and not an intentional choice to pass them over for it.

The Everlux getting the gene has nothing to do with Dusthides not getting it. If the error hadn't been made, it almost certainly would have been Dusthides and Everlux, and not Aberrations. The new breeds always get stuff after they release because they don't have as much as existing breeds.
