Worldbuilding is my big favourite. And scattered across the Game Database, Forums, and Encyclopedia are hundreds of Sornieth puzzle pieces, just waiting to be put together. Some fit perfectly, some are entirely contradictory, and some are so tongue-in-cheek that you aren't quite sure what you're supposed to do with them...
Honestly the FR lore is so extensive that I'm happy to leave most of it to the devs and whoever runs the wiki. But with the release of Silk-Strewn Wreckage, I just couldn't resist doing a deep dive into figuring out the big question: where are the coli venues anyway??[/columns]
[columns]Over the next few pages, I've gathered my evidence and conclusions for each venue. These will include announcement and expansion details, official artwork, item descriptions, quotes from the FR team, and Point of Interest blurbs from the World Map. Notably, I won't be including updates about monsters changing venues or swapping elements- there's too many of those, and they aren't particularly relevant.
But I would absolutely love to know your thoughts! Did I miss something? Do you have an entirely different interpretation? Where do you think the venues are located?[nextcol][img]https://www1.flightrising.com/static/cms/familiar/art/45490.png[/columns]

The Trading Post exists in a generalized location between Light and Lightning, where the grass is dry and there is little habitation. This creates a good neutral zone for traders who have abandoned their elemental flight to establish their caravans and cartels, with very little influence from either the Lightweaver or Stormcatcher.

Has Lightweaver ever made a move on the Tangled Woods to bring the Sunbeam Ruins in its entirety back to Light (It does say "The earth here is literally sunken, as if half of the Sunbeam Ruins fell away into darkness willingly" in the detailed description).
There are constant and unrelenting pushes for elemental domains happening all the time! On the gameplay side, these incursions are tracked via the weekly Dominance chart. Lorewise, the deities are definitely throwing their weight around and there are long-standing bitter rivalries to hash out.

Sornieth indeed experiences its own winters, springs, summers, and autumns. The shift in temperature and weather patterns affects the elemental regions in different ways, some seeing more change than others. For instance, the width and strength of the Twisting Crescendo is much more fearsome in the late summer, when temperatures are warmer and more humid. The snowstorms of the Southern Icefield can send flurries as far north as the Starfall Isles. Overall, however, seasonal patterns are harder to predict or understand due to the constant imbalance in elemental magic ripping through the world.

If dragons from different Flights can Gather around Sornieth, are there no strictly maintained borders, and dragons just go by "where this deity's magical influece ends and this one's begins"?
That's a valid way of thinking about it! The zones themselves are very influenced by the magical element of the reigning Deity and their protected shard of the Pillar; the changes in both magical fields and the landscape itself are dead giveaways that one is approaching a "border".

The Shifting Expanse had to undergo a severe amount of terraformation by the Lightning flight to allow the machinery to coexist with the environment, so this is why that particular wording was used. They essentially "built" themselves a haven for storm-catching purposes. There are rumors that the landscape was a lot more lush before these technologies started to come online, and the constant pull of electric forces scorched and parched the landscape.

New opponents have been appearing throughout the coliseum! The team is hard at work on new venues, but we wanted to go back and revisit many of our older venues with new opponents and venue plan.
When coliseum was originally conceived, holiday currency was not a factor; currency drops in the coliseum were something that we added in to allow players a way to actively obtain the currency rather than having to wait for the next day's gathering turns. Adding the currency into the coliseum was a change that everyone loved, but was unplanned and resulted in some oddities where some holidays are easy to obtain currency for, while others are quite difficult. As a result, many of our venues could use some additional monsters and adjustments to allow new players and old a better coliseum experience, particularly during the holidays when elemental alignment becomes so crucial.
In general, our plans for the coliseum and the opponents in it are as follows:

Grow our amount of opponents across the board.

New players have a variety of interesting foes and desirable familiars to collect. Older players to will also have new incentive to revisit venues they may have forgotten about!

Add more neutral opponents to allow every venue to have 2-3 of them.

Neutral enemies will drop holiday currency for every elemental holiday. Having more neutral enemies allows for players to have a greater freedom of choice in the venue they select to hunt for holiday drops. While there may be a venue out there that has a better showing of a specific element, having more neutrals helps to ensure that no venue is a complete wash during the holidays!

Give many of our venues a stronger elemental leaning.

This may involve some shuffling of existing monster elemental alignments. We do not want to double up on venues' elemental leaning without first ensuring that every element has a favored venue first. Example: Waterway will not lean heavily water because Kelp Beds currently does so. When every element has a favored venue, we will begin looking into doubling up!

Not all venues will have a leaning.

Continue to add challenge monsters as rare encounters in each of the venues.

Challenge encounters will be less frequent in lower level venues than higher level venues.

These changes have been a goal of ours internally that we've been working towards with each opponent addition. This has been a work in progress for some time, and will not happen overnight, but each new change will bring us closer to our goal of greater variety and a better holiday experience.

With the addition of Ghostlight ruins, every venue from the Rainsong Jungle on only contains one level of opponents. Is the eventual goal to have one venue per level, or is that just how things are working out for now?
For the higher levels, that is the goal. Lower level venues may continue to be spread across multiple levels because dragons level through them very quickly due to less experience being needed to advance.

However, based on visual cues such as the curl/spiral etchings on the stones that match those pictured on the World Map, the breeze featured in [gamedb item=39073], and the shared rugged grassland biome, I believe this venue is very likely located somewhere in the Zephyr Steppes.
The Steppes are also surrounded by Arcane, Water, Plague, and Fire territory, which could account for the item descriptions that allude to- or mention outright- these regions.[/columns]

The Training Fields have no elemental majority.
However, based on visual cues such as the curl/spiral etchings on the stones that match those pictured on the World Map, the breeze featured in Scene: Training Fields, and the shared rugged grassland biome, I believe this venue is very likely located somewhere in the Zephyr Steppes.
The Steppes are also surrounded by Arcane, Water, Plague, and Fire territory, which could account for the item descriptions that allude to- or mention outright- these regions.

The World Map and official artworks depict forests in every territory except for Plague, Lightning, and (arguably) Water. Interestingly, the art assets for the Woodland Path use the file name "woodland_border" which could imply the venue is on the border of multiple elemental territories, or in between Nature sub-regions. We can really only guess.

However, based on the item descriptions (particularly the newer additions), I would propose that this venue is actually located somewhere within the forested wetlands of the Viridian Labyrinth.

An arid stretch of land that can be considered the region's most "docile" area. Low shrubbery clings to life in a place where moisture is precious, and hundreds of species of lizard and carrion bird clamor for supremacy in the wind and heat. Cactus plants provide well-wandering dragons with water enough to find the next shady spot.

Mapping Sornieth one shard at a time.

The Sandswept Delta has an elemental alignment with Light.
Notably the only regions with rivers depicted on the World Map are Nature, Arcane, Wind, and Shadow so that doesn't really help us narrow it down.
Context would lead me to believe the Sandswept Delta is located in the Shifting Expanse, perhaps on the northern end of the Highland Scrub where it would border both the Sea of A Thousand Currents (thus, the part of the delta that leads to the ocean) and Sundial Ruins (Light-aligned).

Seeing as the average number of unique monsters per venue is 24 and Bamboo Falls only has 15, I sense an expansion and fresh lore in the future! My last bit of trivia is that the art assets for this venue use "bamboo_waterfall" as the working title. I wonder when in production it got changed?[/columns]
"Those that venture deep into the center of ancient forests may there encounter a Qiriq. These proud creatures befriend dragons with the strongest of hearts. ...or those with the deepest pockets; they are now stocking rarely in the treasure marketplace!"
"New companions are joining the dragon clans. Dragons may wish to keep an eye on their new friends. Whether these companions want to learn about draconic culture for negotiation and trade, or seek to spy and sabotage remains to be seen..."
"Bamboo Falls has a new pair of guardians on the prowl. Dragons who brave the falls may now encounter the majestic Tigerblood Foo and Mantled Foo. New challenges bring new rewards. Does your clan have what it takes to claim them?"

Bamboo Falls exists somewhere at the intersection of the Windswept Plateau and the Sea of a Thousand Currents.

Bamboo Falls exists in a serene area that both flights share. You can envision that it is near the coast of the Windswept Plateau.

Nestled in a low pocket of coastline beneath towering cliffs, Singer's Brook is a place of tranquil stillness in an eternal storm. The contrast is clear when one visits the area; the howls and gusts fall away, replaced with the serene calls of birds and the babbling of streams that meander between the rocks and trees.
