A proposition: They start off super tiny as hatchlings but then are the largest breed as adults
@frozenshade yes, because the Sirenia order actually has had numerous species who apparently completely lacked hand bones (manus) so the Sirenia are actually the mammals who have the least developed limbs, even compared to Cetacea who have very developed arm bones despite using them as flippers. However, since they are very specialised marine animals, their anatomy plan would never work with limbless locomotion on land, so I don't think they're necessarily the best mammalian comparison, but I do appreciate it, especially since all land mammals do in fact have limbs they use for moving about.
Since dragons of Sornieth aren't reptiles (archosaurs specifically, including birds) or mammals, but seemingly have features of all those classes (but I like to say they're their own unique class of vertebrates), it's genuinely hard to imagine what one would look like realistically speaking. I'm all for speculative zoology though >:)))

@Natron Speculative Biology fun but also I accidentally ended up drawing a manatee / Mexican mole lizard hybrid after reading it and I am not sure what to do with it so I am going to subject you to it

also the concept of a dragon that starts at like, <30cm and then grows like, three meters a day and ends up at 30+ meters in length is pretty amusing

Everyone always mentions how excited they are that ancients can break the 4 legs/2 wings/1 head rule. Um, hello? SPIRALS? Last I checked, they have 6 wings!
