They're synonyms, though "kaixin" is a higher degree of happy than "gaoxing." A better translation would probably be "to rejoice" or "joyous," though, bottom line, it's a word that you use when you're happy (u.u)

I didn't think of that lol. It's so hard to write out how you pronounce "x." It's like a blend of "s" and "sh" in English and an equivalent pronunciation just doesn't really exist.
