Psyche began to get worried. But the Pearlcatcher arrived with two eggs in a sling and handed them to Psyche rather docilely. He did not seem to care that he would probably never see his offspring again. He’d never wanted offspring of his own, as he knew vaguely of his roots. But here he was. The Skydancer ran away with the eggs. She felt watched. Aquaris and Envy were not here, hunting together. But it was Spectra who saw and watched. She turned to rise off her nest and alert Aquaris, but [i]something[/i] told her not to. It was an overwhelming urge to stay quiet. She’d always followed her instincts. Even when they were clouded by her love for Aquaris, even though he was a murderer. She supposed she could trust them again. The smaller Skydancer crept behind him as dawn approached as her familiar appeared, approaching him from the front and evidently going for the egg. As Aquaris stood to fend it off, Psyche snatched the egg and ran.
