The full moon washed over the town, illuminating the old hunting manor with a gentle glow. Amidst a nest of red silks, Tobiko fretted over the twin eggs that would soon hatch. An old clock in the manor struck the hour, its toll reverberating through the old estate. It was to this sound that the first fissures split across the bright shells. The first child was born with muted brown fur that seemed to attract fireflies while the second hatched with eyes that seemed to emit a light of their own. He appeared akin to an abandoned treasure, patches of his fur gleaming like jewels in the pale light. The children grew to become akin to their parents, protectors who walked a fine line between their own humanity and the curse that lurked within them. It couldn’t be said that they had a mother. . . for their catalyst was only tufts of silver-white fur collected from a beast. Yomi had, in fact, collected a great number of such items - bones and horns of rare beasts that he used to conduct his experiments. Yomi watched the full moon rise high above the Hewn City illuminating the dust-flecked ruins of an old church. The silver runes beneath his feet flashed with an ominous light. He had created a circle upon the cracked stone floor. Unholy sigils painted in a scrawling font that encircled a pile of fur and bone. Finally a direct beam of light struck the ruins. It was time. Smoke spiraled from the pile of dark remains and Yomi watched as his children came to life. . . dark creatures materializing beneath the moonlight. They were not birthed from a mother, yet they still inherited the curse tied to the tufts of fur from which they were crafted.
