Lore

. Chrono droned, "Wish, are you certain that this is the place."

The high pitched voice of Wish yipped from the neck of the lamp in Chrono's right paw. "Yes, master! This is the place. Look harder, can't you simply feel the magic flowing from that behemoth of crystal? They ripped an entire shard of crystal debris from the Crystalspine Reaches and molded it into a palace to float on a lake cradled by a mountain of land to simply suspend in the gravity flux. If you ask me, they're showing off. No, trust me Master. This place will grant you the clarity you need!"

Frills frozen and locked close to his body, Chrono's limbs refused to move. He stood there on the beach of pale sand looking out at the inland sea that housed the crystal palace that Wish spoke of. According to Wish, the palace was called the Crystal Spire and was home to a clan by the name of Sanguinem Luna. There were ancient stories surrounding this clan that tell of phenomenal fortune telling episodes, but also at the same time there were dark and spine chilling tales. Tales of dragons changing after going inside or even worse, never being seen again.

Wish squeaked, "Master? You aren't moving."

Chrono swallowed. "You are certain that those that live in this place can tell me what I wish to know."

Wish scoffed, "You wound me Master! I grant wishes and right now your identity crisis is driving me crazy! This place will give you the answer you seek! Unless..."

Wish snickered. "You're scared?"

Chrono shook his head but his frills were still flat to his body. His tail whipped in one strong lash before he opened his wings and took to the air once again. He fluttered his little wings for all that he was worth. This high altitude possessed so little air to actually grab for flight. It took longer than what he would've liked, however Chrono finally alighted onto a large precipice of crystal. The walkway disappeared into a large, yawning maw of crystal. A dim violet gloom lay beyond the shafts of light and all was quiet save for the distant sound of water crashing onto the crystal.

Wish's voice squeaked, "Haha... now that we're actually here... Um... Maybe we should turn back?"

Chrono's paws were plastered to the crystalline platform. He couldn't move. It felt like there were eyes on him. A lot of them. Then there were the voices too. Soft, indistinguishable voices danced from the gloom and off of the faces of the crystal structure. The air was charged and felt as if it breathed with something. Chrono didn't realize that he was holding his breath until he released a sharp gasp when a strong voice spoke up.

"You look lost, stranger."

Chrono didn't know he could move so fast. He leapt away from the source of the voice and twisted in the air only to flutter back and slam his back into the crystal face near the entrance to the Crystal Spire. Standing on the ledge, staring at Chrono levelly, was an intimidating Gaoler male. His snowy white fur was marred with crimson. The Gaoler radiated an unbelievable amount of power and yet, as Chrono studied the Gaoler, there was familiarity with that power. Almost.

Scrabbling to find purchase for his paws, Chrono pressed himself against the crystal. "I'm sorry. I mean no harm. I swear. I need help."

The white and crimson Gaoler held up his right forepaw and waved gently. His rich voice rumbled, "Peace, Stranger. I won't hurt you so long as you don't give me a reason to. I-"

The Gaoler's brow furrowed and his eyes narrowed. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Chrono flinched. He droned, "My apologies. It is just. It is just I do not sense your wishes. Usually I can sense other dragon's wishes around me."

The silence that followed was tense. The Gaoler's expression grew dark and his paw slowly dropped.

Chrono swallowed. The silence was killing him. Not even the voices were whispering any longer. "I. If I am not welcome-"

The male Gaoler's rich voice cut Chrono off, "You say that you can sense wishes, and yet I am the first you've encountered that your ability does not seem to reach?"

Chrono nodded. "Yes. Can you help me?"

The male Gaoler walked closer to Chrono. His nostrils flared as he inhaled deeply. His eyes never lost that dark, focused stare. "Not I, but there may be answers from those inside. Come, Stranger."

Chrono dropped to his paws. Astounded by the sense of relief that rushed him. He cradled Wish's lamp carefully as he followed the large Gaoler into the violet gloom. Once inside, Chrono's eyes adjusted to witness a grand entrance hall. Mage lights gleamed, not putting off a lot of light but enough to illuminate the crystal walls. Intricate scroll work decorated the pink and white faces of the crystal walls. Tunnels disappeared into yet more gloom. Chrono collided with the Gaoler's right forepaw.

The Gaoler instructed, "Please wait here. If any dragon asks, tell them that you are Ladarius' guest."

Chrono nodded. Unnerved by his guide's tense demeanor. His eyes drifted over the large chamber, astounded by the grandeur. He felt so small and vulnerable in this place. Chrono lifted Wish's lamp and peered down the opening in the neck. "Wish, any comment."

Wish squeaked, "I am sorry Master! I am just as blind as you! That Gaoler... he looks like a Gaoler but what IS he? I've never sensed such incredible magic from a dragon before. This place is saturated in it!"

Chrono spoke. "This place scares me too."

Wish yipped, "Glad it isn't just me. Wait, I think he is coming back."

Chrono looked up and spotted the Gaoler Ladarius' snowy white fur coming from one of the tunnels. Chrono spotted something behind Ladarius and the presence of this other creature made Chrono shrink from nerves. The silvery visage of a female Skydancer could not hide the incredible power that Chrono sensed rolling off her in waves.

The female Skydancer approached Chrono. "I am Luna'Spiritus, Captain of the Night's Watch. Ladarius of the Day's Watch tells me that you seek help? What is the nature of this aid that you seek?"

Chrono nodded vigorously. "Yes. Yes. You're just like him. I can't sense your wishes and yet I should be able to. I'm always able to sense dragon's wishes. I came to this place to seek answers to discover who I am and yet I am met with more questions."

Luna'Spiritus produced a thoughtful hum. "So you seek the aid of a Mystic?"

Chrono looked up at Luna'Spiritus with another hearty nod and flutter of his frills. "Please! I don't know who I am and here I am beginning to question what I am. Any answers that anyone can give here would be appreciated."

Luna'Spiritus produced a soft purr, "Easy. It will be alright. We will help you, we just needed to know what kind of help you needed. Come, the strongest of our Mystics is this way."

Ladarius looked at Luna'Spiritus and growled, "Are you sure that is wise? He never lets anyone up there."

Luna'Spiritus nodded. "This is a unique situation and I believe he will agree that this is the right course."

Chrono felt his unease increase. They were being awfully cryptic and it was not helping his nerves. "Who is he?"

Luna'Spiritus produced a sharp huff. "An obstacle, but hopefully our Patriarch is in a reasonable mood today. Come, little one."

Chrono swallowed. He was going to be taken to their leader? By the sounds of it that wasn't necessarily a good thing. Chrono was already too deep in this to back out now. He followed after the silver Skydancer, Luna'Spiritus. They took a tunnel that sloped upward. The further they climbed, the more uneasy Chrono became. He felt as if the darkness was crushing him. There was incredible malice coming from whatever lay ahead.

Stepping into a chamber supported by two large pillars, Chrono looked around with surprise. There were dragons inside the crystals! Guardians, Mirrors, and many other species seemed to be sleeping here. Were they in some sort of hibernation? Chrono moved to step forward but a grunt from Luna'Spiritus stopped him.

A fell, masculine voice froze Chrono's blood. "Why are you here, Luna'Spiritus. Who is that little soul you brought with you? Have you finally decided to become an Angel?"

Chrono unconsciously hid behind Luna'Spiritus' leg when a menacing Skydancer stepped out from around one of the pillars. He looked up at Luna'Spiritus when she next spoke.

"No, Patriarch, I wish to consult the Elders on this one's behalf. If you look upon him closer, you'll see that he is an interesting case."

Luna'Spiritus stepped away from Chrono while the menacing male Skydancer walked closer. The male Skydancer's voice demanded, "Who are you?"

Chrono struggled to get out. "I am Chrono."

The male Skydancer barked, "Speak up!"

Chrono forced himself to try to speak louder, "I am Chrono. Sir."

The male Skydancer snorted. "There, was that so hard? So, Chrono. Why are you here?"

Chrono felt himself trapped by the power of the male Skydancer. He was scared and could see how the rumors of dragons disappearing came about for this clan. Chrono nodded to himself to steel his nerves. "I need your help Sir. I am struggling with my abilities. The ability to sense wishes usually comes readily to me but I've hit some sort of block. I can't seem to shake it no matter what I do."

The male Skydancer hummed. "Luna'Spiritus, leave us. This matter concerns this scrap and the Elders."

Luna'Spiritus produced a low growl but left. Chrono wished that she didn't leave. He felt so overwhelmed by what surrounded him.

The male Skydancer snorted. "So, what do you lot have to say? Is this Titan Luminare one of ours?"

The voices picked up around Chrono. He felt a chill as the male Skydancer's eyes fell onto him.

Chrono dared to speak. "What did you call me."

The male Skydancer nodded but it wasn't to Chrono. "Ah, so he belongs to a different Titan Caelestis. Makes sense to me. What? He doesn't know what he is? What kind of Titan Caelestis does that? Stop talking to you and actually answer his question? Bah, be silent father! No one asked you!"

Chrono dared to speak a little louder. "Excuse me. Are you alright."

The male Skydancer threw back his head and laughed. It was a spine chilling laugh that echoed off the crystal walls. When he finally settled, his tail was waving in merriment. "Truly a unique situation. This is the first that we've been approached by a Titan Luminare that belongs to a different Titan Caelestis. Technically I'm not supposed to help you since you're outside of our jurisdiction but... seeing as you don't even know what a Titan Caelestis is..."

Chrono's body trembled. "Stop beating about the bush and just talk to me. I am confused."

The male Skydancer tilted his head. "Odd. Usually Gods aren't confused. What did that Titan Caelestis do to your mind upon your creation?"

Chrono shook his head. "I don't know. Should I know."

The male Skydancer produced a sharp snort. "Or were you even made by a Titan Caelestis? Perhaps one of the Titan Elementis created you? Maybe the Tidelord?"

Chrono's frills folded down. "Please stop asking questions. I seek answers. What are these strange words you speak."

The male Skydancer nodded. "Ah, so he is a creation of a Titan Caelestis but since it is beyond our jurisdiction we do not know who the Titan is. Pity. Ah, Grandmother. So it is possible that his memory was wiped upon creation? Finally an answer. Aaah, so that he can better connect with those whose wishes he is sensing? Makes sense Uncle Arcyng."

Chrono's frills stood up and he suddenly looked around upon realization. This menacing Skydancer was talking to the dragons sleeping in the walls?

The male Skydancer chuckled. "Yes, I am consulting the Elders. The Titan Luminare and Titan Caelestis that sleep in this hall. They hold the answers that you seek."

Chrono blinked. "But I do not understand. How are these questions answering my initial question."

A growl thundered from the male Skydancer's chest. "How to explain this? Hm... Elementary, of course. Hatchling pawsteps as it were. You! Dragons are mortal, yes?"

Chrono flinched back, shocked by the barked question. His response was immediate, "Yes."

The male Skydancer continued, "And the Gods. They are not?"

Chrono nodded. "Yes, I know the Gods are immortal."

The male Skydancer chuckled. "Then be prepared to have your world rocked. I am a God and so are you."

Chrono's jaw dropped. He did not know how to respond to that. "What."

The male Skydancer nodded. "The Hierarchy of the Gods is... complicated to put it in simple terms. Gods like the Tidelord, are Titan Elementis in my clan's language. Elemental Gods that are the dominant deities of Sornieth that manage key elements to keep a world alive. I myself am like you, a Titan Luminare. A lesser Titan, a minor God. Minor Gods are usually created by Titan Elementis or Titan Caelestis; major Gods as it were. It is the role of a Minor God to aid the Major God in their duties, usually by overseeing a specific element within the Major God's domain. However, Gods have territories just like any mortal would claim. That is why I was saying we shouldn't be helping you, because you technically do not fall into our territory. However, since you seem to be abandoned by whichever Titan Caelestis created you; it has fallen onto us to explain what you even are. What a pain for me."

Chrono blinked and looked at his paws. "Oh. So my ability to sense dragon's wishes isn't a curse from the Tidelord. I thought I was cursed because I lacked the ability to see the future."

The male Skydancer rolled his shoulders. "No, you are not lacking since you did not possess it to begin with."

Chrono continued. "Since you belong to a different territory, that is why I can't sense your wishes. Right."

The male Skydancer nodded. "Yes."

Chrono nodded. "The Gaoler that first greeted me, Ladarius. He is a... Titan too."

The male Skydancer snorted. "Yes. That pathetic scrap of fur for a cousin of mine is a Titan."

Chrono took a deep breath. His frills relaxed. "But I am still troubled. What do I do with this information."

The male Skydancer rolled his shoulders. "I don't really care what you do with it. Argh! What Uncle Arcyng?! A purpose for the scrap? Oh fine. I guess it would be hard to do his ability if he didn't actually see it as a job. You, scrap. Come over here to this pillar."

Chrono snapped to attention when the male Skydancer demanded he follow. He padded after the menacing Skydancer and stopped before a pillar of crystal. Chrono looked up and saw a Skydancer male inside the pillar. The violet eyes of the Skydancer were glowing brilliantly despite being distorted by the crystal faces. As quiet as the morning breeze, a gentle wind picked up in the chamber and suddenly a piece of parchment fluttered in front of Chrono.

An unfamiliar masculine voice whispered in the chamber, "Take the parchment, young Chrono."

Chrono picked up the piece of parchment and realized that the writings on the piece were a map of the Windswept Plateau and Ashfall Waste combined with instructions. The instructions read:

Beyond the playground of the Windsinger, on the border with the Flamecaller's forge, begins a clan struggling anew. Find these lost souls, aid their crownless King, and grant their wishes to the best of your ability. You are Votum Tutor, wish guardian, in the eyes of the Crystal Spire. In what will be the Clan of Burning Fantasies, you will be the Keeper of Wishes... and ultimately... Hope.

Chrono looked around the entire chamber. He held the parchment close to his chest. "I thank you. This. This is more than I could have hoped for. Thank you."

The glowing eyes of the Skydancer inside the pillar lost the glow, as if he fell back asleep. The menacing male Skydancer produced a heavy snort. "Yes, yes, you're grateful. Now get out of here! You've got your own little quest to see to."

Chrono fluttered his frills and flapped his wings. He was pushed out of the chamber by the menacing Skydancer. "But I don't know your name."

The menacing Skydancer growled, "You don't want to."

Chrono droned, "Please. I get the feeling that you're being uncharacteristically gracious to me."

The menacing Skydancer gave Chrono a rough shove down the sloping crystal tunnel. "Everyone has off days. Just count your blessings and get out of my Crystal Spire."

Chrono stood his ground. "Please. I will leave once I know the names of the Titans that aided me."

The menacing Skydancer's fell voice rumbled at last and emphasized every sylable with chilling clarity. "Tenebris'Cor. Patriarch of Sanguinem Luna. You already know the names of the other two you met at the entrance."

Chrono bowed his head. "Thank you so much, Patriarch Tenebris'Cor."

With that, Chrono flew down the tunnel and rushed out of the Crystal Spire. He looked at the parchment he held and at Wish's lamp. His heart felt light and reinvigorated. It was such a pleasant feeling that in the end he recognized it. It was the feeling of a wish fulfilled. He now had a purpose, a duty to see done. He could not wait to get started.

Come Little Hatchlings

Wings as bright as the sky at night;
Like outer space he brings delight.

Tell Chrono your dreams, your deepest desires;
Like the stars in the skies, he listens for hours.

So come little hatchlings, tell him your dreams;
Maybe someday, they will become reality.

Wish the Vulpine Lamp
Wish came into Chrono's possession after a lot of careful manipulation orchestrated by the clever little fox spirit trapped within. There were too many gravy incidents to care to count in that path, so Wish does not speak of it. The connection between Wish and Chrono is very much like water molecules, they are both of the same element and thus belong together to serve the same purpose. It makes sense no? A wish granting spirit serving a God of Wishes? It makes plenty of sense to Wish and truly that is all that matters to the little spirit.
