After many years, they found that their colours began to change and their patterns too, the better to camoflage among the grasses and bamboo forests, and making them excellent hunters. Many windrunners are weak flyers, but they are still devoted followers of Windsinger, and they use the gusts of the Wind Plateau to speed their running across the plains and steppes. As a weak flyer who easily grew exhausted, he often had difficulty navigating a world designed for flight. Eventually he found his home with Gust in the Zephyr Steppes, where he was able to sprint and run across the prairies and grasslands, the wind at his heels. On the fringes of Windrunner territory, they met and quickly bonded, eventually becoming mates. Eventually, due to Calathea and Reflexa's efforts arguing their case, the Windrunner pack welcomed them back.
