They were content with this, keeping to a patch of prairie far from Millmeadows. It was a simple and happy life for them both. Mekhar felt that he had been blessed by Windsinger, given this chance to experience what all dragons with true flight feel every day, and he vowed to never take that joy for granted.

[size=4]Calathea, Reflexa's mate, was born a wind dragon. A thrillseeker, he ran straight to the Twisting Cresendo the moment he grew up, and spent every day dancing through the vortex. When the vortex halted, he was devastated, and joined the effort to build the Aergate to bring the winds back. There he met Reflexa, and quickly fell for her.[/size][/columns]
Something about Calathea immediately irritated Mekhar. Maybe it was his carefree attitude, maybe it was the way he shrieked with joy while jumping from the cliffs of the Reedcliff Ascent. Maybe even it was jealousy. Calathea's wings were strong, he had never known the struggle of trying and failing to fly. He didn't act like he had any respect for the Windsinger's blessings!
Very quickly, Mekhar began to act passive-aggressive, picking fights with Calathea over everything. Calathea seemed to find this funny, and reacted with teasing and mockery. Their biggest argument was about what it meant to be a Windrunner. Mekhar believes all windrunners, wherever they may be, are mirrors who carry a blessing from the Windsinger, and that it was their duty to serve Windsinger however they could as thanks for their flight. Calathea believes that to be a windrunner is to feel joy in flight and sprinting across the prairie, whether Windsinger blesses them or not. But at the requests of their mates, they managed to keep a fragile peace.
At least, until Eucalypt arrived.

Eucalypt was raised in the Starfall Isles as the apprentice to a powerful but immoral fae dragon. His master worked him hard, and was often neglectful. More than once, Eucalypt was left to clean up dangerous potions after his master was finished experimenting. The toxins eventually turned his colours pale, and the fumes did damage to his lungs, making it difficult for him to fly far. Eventually, Eucalypt ran away and wandered the world alone.
Climbing the cliffs of the Reedcliff Ascent, the wind whipped around Eucalypt and for the first time in a long time, he felt like he could breathe. The wind swelled under his wings and he leapt into the air, letting it carry him across the prairie below. Soon after, he began to notice other mirrors, though he was still too shy to approach them, keeping to himself and enjoying the breeze.
Calathea noticed him. Chasing the soft-spoken dragon across the grasses, eventually he cornered Eucalypt in a bamboo forest, greeting him enthusiastically. Eucalypt was nervous around him, but curious about their similar markings, and accepted his invitation to join the windrunner pack. Meeting Reflexa went well, and Gust invited him to hunt alongside her, but Mekhar found his presence alarming, taking his pale colouring as a sign of upcoming bad luck. During a private moment, Mekhar confronted Eucalypt, chasing him away from their prairie. Eucalypt was sad to leave, but accepted the banishment with little fight, and returned to wandering alone.
Calathea was furious when he found out, and immediately challenged Mekhar over it. What started as a verbal fight turned into a physical battle for dominance, one which Calathea won, but it was too late to invite Eucalypt back. He had disappeared into the wide grasslands of the steppe.
Mekhar has quietly begun to resent Calathea for this fight, but for now they have made a fragile peace.
