Occasionally, undead Thios have been seen, their hides dark with decay, their once translucent secretion stained with blood. While this doesn't seem to affect its anti-prion properties all that much, it is now usually contaminated with various microbes, so it is not ideal for medical use. Now immune to prions, and resistant to physical injury, these creatures will not hesitate to fight Encephs head-on, often capturing them for their living brethren to study. It is not known exactly where these zombies come from, but they are commonly believed to be raised by Thio necromancers, so they can continue the fight even in death. Although they usually possess no magical abilities, the diseased slime coating their bodies offers them protection from most living beings, and allows enterprising Thios an easy way to grow and study pathogens. Naturally, these pathogens require sustenance, the easiest source of which is blood. Thus, most zombified Thios have adapted the habit of coating themselves in the blood of animals (and occasionally dragons).
Most living Thios are not bothered by their clanmates decayed flesh or bloodbathing, as behind the terrifying visage remains the sentient mind of a friend or family member. The rest of Sornieth is less tolerant of these creatures, especially denizens of the Plague flight. Perhaps this is for good reason, as even in death these reanimated corpses seem to exist beneath the same black cloud of tragedy that haunted them in life. Plague Thio clans that harbour many of their zombified kin often seem to encounter misfortune on a daily basis. However, even this seemingly inescapable curse isn’t enough to keep most Thios, undead or not, out of the Plaguebringer’s realm. They dedicated their lives to their cause, and it seems they now have dedicated their afterlives to it as well.
That's not all though! Along with the new variant, normal Thios have received additional lore and some new colours!
Other than their (sometimes obsessive) drive to find a cure for prions, little is known about the society or psychology of these pale dragons, and therefore separating reality from rumour is quite difficult. Whispers of forgotten deities, ancient conflicts, and magics unknown to most of dragonkind can be heard amongst both Thios and, more commonly, nosy dragons, who may or may not simply be parroting fictions recited to them by another. Whether or not there is any merit to these vague statements, Thios residing in Plague territory (and the clans housing them), often have tragedy befall them. Many have taken this as a sign of Plaguebringer’s displeasure with the breed, and others as a sign of malevolence on the part of Thios.
