This is a subspecies based off of prions, misfolded proteins that cause brain disease. There are 3 currently known variants, spongiforms, encephs and reformed. Spongiforms Breed: Any Primary: Coral-Rose Clown, Bar, Speckle, Jaguar Secondary: Coral-Rose, Eye Spots, Daub, Freckle, Rosette Tertiary: Antique-Moon, Crackle, Gembond, Smirch Most dragons who fall victim to prions become spongiforms. These dragons are often very sickly. Their bodies shake uncontrollably, and they usually have difficulty walking. They rarely speak, and when they do, their speech is slurred, and often unintelligible. Cognitive changes and/or difficulties (personality changes, memory problems, etc.) are extremely common. Although they are typically non-threatening on their own, when under the control of an Enceph, they will attack and attempt to infect any dragon that comes near. The pale protein growths upon their bodies are very brittle, crumbling easily when pressure is applied to them. Ingesting the resulting fragments is the most common cause of infection. Encephs Breed: Any Primary: Coral-Rose, Iridescent, Metallic Secondary Coral-rose, Shimmer, Alloy Tertiary: Antique-Moon Spines, Gembond Occasionally, when a plague dragon is infected with the prions, they are able to resist the disease, and instead of becoming a spongiform they become an Enceph When this happens, the dragon develops a protein shell and growths of the disease-causing proteins on their scales. They constantly shed these growths, and often slip them into the food and water supplies of clans. They have complete control over spongiforms and most won't pass up an opportunity to add to their armies. They are master manipulators who enjoy turning dragons against each other, and will often use this to destroy clans they cannot infect. Many of them believe they are The Plaguebringer’s chosen children, those strong enough to overcome Her trials and spread Her will. -The armoured shell of these dragons makes them very resilient to most forms of attack. -They are also known as Prion-masters -Have a rivalry with Royal Amalgamates. Encephs despise Amalgamates, as they are one of the few dragon-like beings they cannot infect. Their near immortality only further fuels this hatred. Encephs want to be the best survivors, and they will do almost anything to achieve this. For this reason, Water and Fire dragons are often favoured victims, as their elemental magics target Amalgamates only weaknesses. Reformed Breed: Any Primary: Coral-Rose Wasp Secondary Coral-rose Bee Tertiary: Antique-Moon Spines, Gembond, Scales While Encephs are very powerful, underneath their armoured carapaces they are little different from normal dragons. Eventually they will die, whether from old age, or trauma. Sometimes when this happens, however, they don’t stay dead. No one knows exactly what causes dead Encephs to return to life, but it is often believed to be the result of exposure to high levels of magic. These revived creatures are known as “the reformed”, they are terrifying beings, cracked armour falling away to reveal flesh, and even bones beneath. Their only focus seems to be death and destruction, as they attack anything in sight, and will not stop until they are destroyed for good. This seems like a really interesting subspecies! Prions have fascinated me for a while now. I especially dig your spongiform design. Could I be added to the sales ping please?

Of course you can! I personally find the spongiforms the most unique design. Glad you like them.

@Madrigalism @Rafel Got some Friday the 13th hatchies here! 10kT each, I also accept gems at 1:900. She's only 1 off from being an Enceph (her secondary is brick). Would make a good mate if you wanted a breeding pair.
