A quartet of dragons arrived around noon. Two Wildclaws and Two Coatl. “Hello.” The scarf-wearing Coatl spoke first. “I am
Keryin and I am here to serve as an interpreter for
Myzrin.” The referred to Lightning dragon hummed a laconic greeting which Keryin proceeded to relay in common draconian.
“My name is
Aeria Gloris,” the sanguine Wildclaw told Dash, “and you can call me any shorthand you like. Within reason of course.” She gave a crooked smile.
“And, well, I’m
Molerince.” The least self-assured of the group introduced herself.
“My role-” Keryin relayed Myzrin’s thoughts, “-is to invent. Occasionally I get requests, some musicians asked once. Sometimes I’m needed for lair development projects, such as when the bath-house was constructed. Mostly I’m left to work on whatever I care to. Ventilation, sound enhancement, containment-physics manipulation, heat-regulation, and a translation device. Those are the projects I’ve worked on at varying states of completion. I sometimes share resources with the engineer, but everyone has distinct focusses. It becomes a matter of how easy materials are to obtain.”
“You may think of me as a botanist of sorts.” Lor remarked. “Life is such a remarkable field of study, isn’t it? Sure, realms vary in their abundance, but, if you look, you’ll find it everywhere.” She offered an arm with what seemed to be a thorny rose stem wrapped around it. “This was an experiment to copy the gene that gives Notocacti harmless spines. Touch it and see for yourself.
“The trouble that a lot of life can find is that it simply isn’t given ample time to adapt and prepare before being, say, blasted by lightning. Now with science, we can give it the conditions it needs. We can
accelerate the process of adaptation. Especially if we know some other species that’s already found itself a winning formula.” The Wildclaw paused, and then changed topic.
“My former clan was a caste-system, not terrible as far as those go. You’re assigned something to do, such as I was to bring honour to the clan in contests with others, but how exactly you do that isn’t very restricted. But, you see, they did make sure they honoured the Stormcatcher, and one caste dedicates themselves to worship. Now it seemed that one particular colleague I discussed my work with was a chatty sort and some of the Devout would fail to conceal the looks they gave me.
“So once I’d earned myself a name and had my work’s merits recognised, I decided I’d best move on. They would have only brought me trouble in the end.” She chuckled. “I still earn something of an oddball’s reputation, but the clan are fair and as my comrade implied-” Lor gave Myzrin a nod, “-we get ample workspace.”
“Oh, I guess all of us moved because of not being happy where we were before.” Molerince gave a small smile before continuing. “I, ah, worked hard but…the supervisor didn’t take kindly to missed deadlines. When this happened it made me anxious, so it’s harder to work well and…you can see how I left. I wasn’t the only one either.”
Myzrin interjected, humming disapprovingly. “Last I heard,” Keryin translated, “they’d gone nomadic. With heavy machines? What madness.”
Molerince sighed. “Ah, it’s taken a while to find somewhere I can settle. The Errant clan is where I went next. I can only guess they thought it was a good idea at the time, but I always saw it as a clan of strangers, even to those already there.” She raised one claw. “With the exception of my pupil. Have you met Inkfell? He left before everyone else decided it was shambles. My, when we next met it was in the Scarred Wasteland. Dreadful. Just dreadful. I couldn’t be more relieved to leave with the group he came with.” The Wildclaw brightened. “I'm happy where I am now. I don't have to worry so much any more."
"We appreciate your efforts, Molerince." Keryin remarked. Myzrin gave a short, non-lexical hum and uttered a couple of words of the common speech (albeit with flawed grammar) to the Wildclaw, "everyone remember." Lor hadn't been part of the clan long enough to have a great awareness of Molerince's contributions, and smiled without comment.
Lovely to see so many sharing their lore. ^^
One of my dragons has yet to be breedchanged into a Wildclaw, so for consistency I won’t be using images for the main group.
